Whispering Pines Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)

Charlie fishing the East Verde River (Between the Waterwheel access and 2nd bridge: Take the 2nd bridge access and cross road to trail head. It's only 2 miles from cabin!

3 Bedroom/2 Bath, 2 Fireplace Cabin Across the Street from the East Verde River nestled in the cool Pines @ 5,300 ft. elevation 10 miles NE of Payson in Whispering Pines. Public access down street at wet bridge. Fly fish for trout & small-mouth bass. Cabin Sleeps Eight (1 queen, 2 full, 2 twin). Linen & towels furnished. WIFI, Blu-Ray, NetFlix, Direct TV with NFL MAX package and Netbook Computer. Fully Equipped Kitchen & Laundry room w/ washer & dryer, Cabin Decor (Trout, Elk & Bear Rm). Living room w/leather sectional, 2 recliners. Custom Kitchen Table & Fireplace Mantels made of Juniper. Gas grill & Fire ring. For the fishing enthusiast: 2 fly tying tables, a fishing rod holder inside & wader hanger outside. Dog friendly (up to 2 good dogs) For hunters: Excellent Elk & Turkey hunting w/ Tonto National Forestry access less than 1/4 mile from cabin. Enhance your stay by adding a guided fishing trip or buying supplies and flies.

In greatroom, 42 inch Phillips flatscreen LCD HDTV with Blue Ray player, Free Netflix and Pandora.

Fireplace firewood is provided FREE for 2 fireplaces (one in kitchen and other in greatroom). Fire ring firewood (pine) is often stacked near fire ring, but is NOT guaranteed. We are unable to restock fire ring wood between all guest stays, but it may be collected in nearby Tonto National Forest for 'small camp fires for free'. Please Do Not burn fireplace wood in the fire ring. It is expensive hard wood (pecan, oak, aspen, and alligator juniper) so it will burn hot and not soot up chimneys. We have 2 ceramic heaters. One on each floor. Feel free to place them where you want. (They use much less electricity than baseboard heat.) When you arrive at cabin, if the ceramic heaters are not enough, please turn on baseboard heaters until you have time to light fireplaces. There is one located in bathroom and Bear room downstairs and a thermostat at top of stairs on the left side of wall for the living room. There is one in the Elk room too. Also, the fireplace dampers/flutes are closed. Before starting fires please look up and pull the black bar forward to you to open so fire smoke goes up chimney. If one fireplace is not in use keep that damper closed so smoke from the other fireplace doesn't reenter home because the chimney stacks are next to each other. Lots of free firewood is behind cabin and next to driveway (oak, aspen, pecan, alligator juniper). From our and other guests it is best to place firewood as far back from front as possible to encourage smoke up flute and when first lighting it to heat up the chimney stack with a firestarter stick (not able to keep firestarter log/sticks stocked at cabin. Please bring. Have long matches though). These are just tricks you may already know. When the fire is out its best to close flute as soon as possible, because when the chimney stack cools down it can drive cold smoky air in. If that happens, just open the windows and run the ceiling fans.

If it is misused, we will not be able to continue offering it free for the fireplaces or may be forced to raise rates. Thank you Very Much.

Football Season: Direct TV NFL Sunday Ticket: For those of you who want to get away, but can't stand the thought of missing a game in real time, we have Direct TV Sunday Ticket. Information for all NFL Sunday Tickets on Direct TV:

If a game the viewer wishes to watch is blacked out in their home market because it's not sold out, the game remains blacked out on NFL Sunday Ticket. Any other game televised locally is also blacked out. (viewers must watch them instead on the local FOX or CBS affiliates) See Channel Guide in Guest Handbook at Cabin Please. Games joined or switched away from in progress usually have their blackout status altered immediately.

Fishing licenses can be purchased at the camping, hunting, outdoor sports counter of Walmart in Payson. Even in the winter, there is hold over trout at the 1st and 2nd wet bridges. They are the smarter ones that lasted thru the angler season so they are spooky, but if you catch one you are the master! A honey hole document for fishing hot spots will be sent with directions and cabin keyless entry code after payment is made in full a day prior to stay.

The East Verde River TROUT STOCKING SCHEDULE started April 2nd, 2012 and continues weekly through August 29th, 2012 for the summer season by the AZ Game and Fish Department. See stocking schedule at:

http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/fishing/stocking/2012SumTroutStockSchedule.pdf

From Hwy 87, take a right onto Houston Mesa Road. It's 10 miles to cabin. At 6.9 miles, the first East Verde River access (parking area on right) is just beyond the bridge overpass has some great shallow swimming holes friendly to kids, dogs. It is a fish and game trout stocking spot. At 7.5 miles the next parking area on right is called Waterwheel which is VERY scenic with hiking trails and waterfalls. It has 3 sites stocked by fish and game. At 8.1 miles just after crossing the first wet bridge is a parking area called 2nd crossing on left which has great fishing areas (stocked by fish and game), hiking trail (see marker directly across the road by river). At 8.8 miles, the next parking area is on left beyond the 2nd wet bridge (also a fish stocking spot). Continue up curved hill and enter Whispering Pines Subdivision (on right side). The Left side is still Tonto Forest. The 3rd wet bridge crossing on scott's drive is only another mile and .5 miles from the cabin. It is a great spot to plant some lawn chairs (under stairs at cabin) and soak you feet, play, etc...

Upstream from cabin (take a right on Houston Mesa Rd from cabin and bear left at the road split). It is called Washington Park and is another river access with a well known great hiking trail called Highline Trail (5 miles from cabin). There are other river access points upstream on the dirt control road toward Hwy 260 (instead of bearing left toward Washington Park, cross bridge on right and bear left). This heads to Tonto Creek and fish hatchery, camping areas, etc... all part of Tonto Forest.

Reminder: Please check outlets for any plugs, chargers, cords for your portable devises. 1 out of 4 guests leave one behind which we return as quickly as possible, but it still takes a week (start to finish).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your wonderful cabin. It was so nice being up here in beautiful Payson. This home is so perfect. It’s so homey and comfy. We felt at such ease. Our kids are: Jayde 8, and Jude 4. You would have thought it was Christmas upstairs with all of the toys. Our 4 year old especially went nuts. He brought the 3 little Diego toys with us to town every time. He says we definitely have to come back here next time! Our daughter also had a blast with the toys and her doll from home slept in the crib. It was so nice having the washer and dryer so I could keep up with all of the dirt and not have to drag home bags of dirty clothes. There was only a small amount of detergent to start with, so we bought a replacement. We made s'mores both nights, hiked up and down the rivers, and swung on the hammock. So relaxing! We ate breakfast this morning at the Beeline Café. It was very delicious. Our daughter would recommend the French toast! We ate at Macky’s grill on our first night. One the outside it is very plain and restaurant typical but far from it on the inside- the food was Delicious! The New York Philly Cheese steak and OOey Gooey Burger were very good and highly recommended by my husband and I. Other than that we did cook in and I found everything that I needed- Thank you. We went antiquing a little at a couple places, Kountry Chicks Boutique- which was very cute and reasonable and the fenced in antique store and boutique right in town. The antique store was amazing but packed wit goodies which was a little nerve wrecking with the kids. It was a “hands in pockets” trip. The BBQ/ candle lighter was stepped on outside (sorry) so ya will need a new one. Thanks you so much! Melissa (Peoria, AZ)

p.s. we loved the Smokey Bear and little Smokey Bear!

Hi my name is Jayde and I had a good time at your cabin. My favorite places was the creek and my favorite thing to do was make s’mores and eat them. We shopped down town payson. The only animal we saw was a squirrel walking on the telephone wire. Thank you for letting us stay for 2 days.

FABULOUS Cabin!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home from a two night stay at this cabin. It was FABULOUS!!!! The cabin is extremely clean, well-furnished, and well-maintained. It had everything we needed in the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and outside deck. It is nicely decorated and we were very comfortable. The cabin is better than as described in the website posting. It is a BEAUTIFUL property!!!

Working with the owners was easy and a pleasant experience. They were available to answer questions during our stay. And, our deposit was promptly returned at the end of our stay.

We met several of the neighbors and everyone was friendly and helpful. It was a fun couple of days!! We absolutely will be returning to stay at this cabin. Soon!!!

The house was comfortable, and its location near the end of the road made for a peaceful weekend.

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and spacious. Given the peaceful area, sitting outside, whether on the porch or around the fire ring, was very enjoyable. River access was a five-minute walk from the house. Additionally, Pine and Strawberry were perhaps a 30-45 minute drive from the house, and the top of the Mogollon Run was a few minutes beyond Strawberry. The road from the house to Payson was very scenic with various river crossings and beautiful views. I would definitely stay at this house again.

Great Getaway from the Heat

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay when you want to have a quick getaway out of the heat but don't won't to drive too far. The cabin is easy to find in the Whispering Pines community. It's close to town and not far from the popular spots like Woods Canyon and Willow Springs Lake. The cabin is cozy and comfortable. It has everything you need away from home. Great weekend at a good price!

Nice Property, Enjoyed our Fishing Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our Party of Seven Adults enjoyed our stay. Was better suited for 6 adults and two children based on bunk beds, but we solved our needs with a blow up bed for the one non married person in our party. Loved the quaintness of the place with all the fishing memorabilia, and great instructions on fishing locations. Went to Washington Park first but was rained out - did not fish, an adventurous and scenic drive though. We caught 9 trout at the third crossing of the Verde River. At the second crossing caught another two trout and a dozen crawdads. Also went to Woods Creek Canyon, caught about 25 very small blue gills. All and all was a great way to get out of the Phoenix heat, was only about 75 degrees at the cabin.

The cabin waS very relaxing. It made us feel like we were right at home. Our cells did not work, so it was a nice break at times, but we could use the WiFi if we needed to.
