Large, Private Luxury Home -Ski Taos or Sled at House

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 9-12)

Situated on two private acres among pinion, juniper, and Ponderosa pines in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Range, this newly-built(2003), three bedroom plus house is a perfect spot to relax after a long day spent skiing or seeing the many sights of Taos.

This is a hand-crafted, custom-built, Non-Smoking home with Southwest touches such as coved plaster ceilings, log vigas, and the traditional Northern New Mexico-style pitched roof. The house’s many windows are oriented to frame the mountain views and embrace the New Mexico sun with a warm southern exposure that heats and brightens the house all winter. The large south-facing deck on the main level and the two private upper balconies can be enjoyed all year. A full-length covered porch on the north side stays cool through the summer months and provides plenty of room to stomp off snow in the winter.

The house is located north of the town of Taos (nine miles), off the road to the Taos Ski Valley (eight miles). The elevation is estimated to be 7900 feet - which means cool and refreshing nights even in the heat of the New Mexico summer.

Inside, there are three bedrooms: the master bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. One upstairs room has a lovely view of the Taos Ski Valley mountain, and is furnished with a queen bed. The other bedroom has twin beds and an optional futon double mattress for additional guests. Both upstairs rooms have large private balconies with southern views of the Truchas mountain range. The entire first floor has vigas with coved ceilings, and French doors opening onto the large south deck. The master bathroom has a large tub with a picture window framing a view of pine trees. The living room has a large fireplace, for nights before the roaring fire. The living room also has a queen-size sofa bed for extra sleeping capacity. The attractive kitchen has a Jenn-Air range and granite tile countertops, and is fully-equipped for most cooking needs.

There is an outdoor Jacuzzi tub for skiers to soak away the effects of a long day on the slopes. Taos Ski Valley is near our house, and Angel Fire is a short drive in the other direction. In winter, snow often blankets our property and there is a sledding slope for kids near the driveway. In summer, you are encouraged to bring your mountain bikes to explore the trails reached directly from our house.

NOTE: Our house is reached by a 1.9 mile county-maintained dirt road (Gallina Canyon Road). Depending on the time of year, a four-wheel drive vehicle may be recommended due to snow conditions.

Lovely three weeks watching spring come to Taos!

  • 5 of 5

We've enjoyed the spacious and efficient living area and the ever-changing views of the craggy mountains out the kitchen and dining room windows. At this time of year, they're still snow-covered, while right here at Casa Q we're enjoying spring. While we've been here, the cottonwoods have gone from that pale yellow look to leafy green, and the flowering trees along Gallina Canyon road have been beautiful.

We've seen several of those long-eared Southwestern squirrels with the puffy white borders along their tails in the driveway. Coming from New England, we enjoy seeing critters unlike the ones we see at home. The other night, we saw a string of six baby rabbits chasing each other up the road!

We've had a very pleasant stay. Our grandsons (8 and 11) have enjoyed lively games of table tennis in the basement, giving us a chance to collect our wits and make supper on the main floor! They also enjoy the large TV as a special treat in the evening. We're looking forward to trying out the hot tub after we pick them up at school today--another new adventure for them.

All in all, Casa Q is a great place to spend a few weeks in the mountains of northern New Mexico!

The house was wonderfull and well equipped. We had a wonderfull overview of the surrounding mountains.

Best experience was sitting in the hottub under a dark sky with uncountable stars.

Peaceful, Beautiful, Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This home is wonderfully situated in a private location with easy access to the Taos ski valley and to the town itself. It has a fireplace, a sun deck facing mountains, hot tub, and great hikes just outside the door (the Carson National Forest is a 20 minute walk). Comfortable rooms with plenty of closet space and views, and games for the kids in the basement. Couldn't have asked for a better place to live!

Finally made super accessible!

  • 5 of 5

I've been staying at Linc's property every other year or so, since I first visited for a ski trip. It's my goto vacation house in the winter, such a lovely house (and the owner designed it himself, rumor has it!) with lots of bed space, nice living room with fireplace, and outdoor fire pit and barbecue was very useful. Very cozy, very home-y. I bet it would be great for families, definitely great for me and my medium size group of colleagues and friends.

Linc is very responsive to problems, I had the pipes burst once during my first stay and he had someone out to fix it same day. Haven't had any problems since, except that the road has ALWAYS been so hard to drive to get to the property. The driveway includes a pretty difficult approach for a 2-wheel drive vehicle to clear in the ice & snow.

this time I went out there, it was being plowed regularly! This gets rid of my only complaint, which is that it is hard to access. On my most recent trip, I found that a bunch of snow came down and I struggled to get out really early in the morning, but the plow came that day and cleared everything up. The dirt road was also graded while I was there. It's still not on the way to anywhere though, so it was no less private than always. In fact i'm amazed a plow is willing to regularly come service a private road/driveway!

Added bonus -- as a young person I was able to take advantage this year of Taos ski valley's new "Zia" season pass deal for anyone under 30! Surprising find, but pure gold.

Breathtaking Views!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 7 nights at Casa and couldn't possibly be more satisfied. It truly is a beautiful gem nestled in the mountains. It's spacious, yet cozy, and has three amazing balconies to take in all the beauty around. The owner was quick to respond to questions, made himself available if needed, and was more than helpful when we asked for travel suggestions (must do/see, as well as places to eat). The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable, and the internet worked well. The hot tub was an added bonus at the end of the day. We look forward to our return. Thanks for opening your home... priceless memories were made.
