Taos House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 9-12)

Situated on two private acres among pinion, juniper, and Ponderosa pines in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Range, this newly-built(2003), three bedroom plus house is a perfect spot to relax after a long day spent skiing or seeing the many sights of Taos.

This is a hand-crafted, custom-built, Non-Smoking home with Southwest touches such as coved plaster ceilings, log vigas, and the traditional Northern New Mexico-style pitched roof. The house’s many windows are oriented to frame the mountain views and embrace the New Mexico sun with a warm southern exposure that heats and brightens the house all winter. The large south-facing deck on the main level and the two private upper balconies can be enjoyed all year. A full-length covered porch on the north side stays cool through the summer months and provides plenty of room to stomp off snow in the winter.

The house is located north of the town of Taos (nine miles), off the road to the Taos Ski Valley (eight miles). The elevation is estimated to be 7900 feet - which means cool and refreshing nights even in the heat of the New Mexico summer.

Inside, there are three bedrooms: the master bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. One upstairs room has a lovely view of the Taos Ski Valley mountain, and is furnished with a queen bed. The other bedroom has twin beds and an optional futon double mattress for additional guests. Both upstairs rooms have large private balconies with southern views of the Truchas mountain range. The entire first floor has vigas with coved ceilings, and French doors opening onto the large south deck. The master bathroom has a large tub with a picture window framing a view of pine trees. The living room has a large fireplace, for nights before the roaring fire. The living room also has a queen-size sofa bed for extra sleeping capacity. The attractive kitchen has a Jenn-Air range and granite tile countertops, and is fully-equipped for most cooking needs.

There is an outdoor Jacuzzi tub for skiers to soak away the effects of a long day on the slopes. Taos Ski Valley is near our house, and Angel Fire is a short drive in the other direction. In winter, snow often blankets our property and there is a sledding slope for kids near the driveway. In summer, you are encouraged to bring your mountain bikes to explore the trails reached directly from our house.

NOTE: Our house is reached by a 1.9 mile county-maintained dirt road (Gallina Canyon Road). Depending on the time of year, a four-wheel drive vehicle may be recommended due to snow conditions.

Great property in a very spectacular setting. We loved the views!

  • 5 of 5

This house was shared by ten individuals, it worked very well with plenty of room to gather and to separate. Kitchen worked very well for cooking for ten and the table handled us easily. We would stay here again. The owner was very present via e-mail for anything we needed, house is well stocked and very comfortable. Outdoor fire pit could use some more comfortable seating, but we are all in our 60"s. . .

Thank you for a memorable stay!

Where do you live? New Mexico

If you're looking for peace and quiet this lovely home provides it!

  • 4 of 5

The location of this lovely house is in an area across the beautiful little Valdez valley. The views of the mountains and surrounding forest from the home are wonderful and the home itself is decorated to lend to the Taos feel. House has a nice layout and spacious rooms with custom features throughout, particularly in the master bathroom. We found the place to be well appointed and enjoyed amenities like books with local area information, games of foosball and using the hot tub under a star-filled sky with no light pollution. Our stay was peaceful and quiet and even included a visit from the neighbor's very friendly dog. Note that you'll want to plan for sundries before arriving as the trek in and out to "civilized" areas could be inconvenient, but it's not unpractical. So, if you're looking to get away from it all this is choice to highly consider.

Fabulous mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous family vacation getaway! Off the beaten track with easy access to everything Taos has to offer - and a beautiful mountain home. Kitchen was completely equipped with everything you need. Great outdoor fire pit and hot tub. Kids had a terrific time hiking just minutes away and the family ping ping tournament winner is still a topic of conversation;). Highly recommend this home!

The property needed a little TLC, but fully equipped

  • 3 of 5

I go to the area almost every summer.

I love the Taos area.

The house is in a great location. The canyon is right in the middle of everything.

We had some trouble with Windows not opening and the door out to the back patio door in the back was difficult to open and close.

The drain in the upstairs bathroom would not drain.

The shower curtain in the master bath came out of the wall the 1st night.

It looked like it had been rigged instead of fixed.

I was in touch with the owner and he said he would fix all the following week.

The kitchen was very well stocked for cooking.

We enjoyed our dinners at the house

The fire pit at the house gave us all a fun evening after dinner.

Beds were comfortable for our group of 6 people plus a 14 month old little girl

The house had a portable crib and a high chair which was great.

Electronics in the house was great.

Phone reception was very spotty. My t mobile was a complete dud, but my kids with Att had better luck.

We spent a lot of time at Sky Valley. We love to hike and the weather was perfect.

Thank you

Nice house, but wouldn't rent there again...

  • 3 of 5

The house was nice and well appointed, but the furniture is old and needs cleaning and replacing. We would not sit on one of the couches. It was dirty.

For the price per night, we've come to expect much better.

There were several small inconveniences, like a ping pong table that was damaged and would only open on one side. Try to explain that to your 5 year old! It was just not a well maintained house, by my standards.

The wifi didn't work and took a neighbor to come by and reprogram the system to get it working. Not how I want to spend my vacation, trouble-shooting an unfamiliar wifi system with ancient technology! Also, the properly is only marginally covered by cellular service, which is important for a potential renter to know before coming. It caused some problems as my employees weren't able to reach me easily.

The owner was attentive and responsive, but for this price - we've come to expect better on VRBO.

Wonderful retreat in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

My adult siblings and I absolutely enjoyed our time in Taos. Oh, the stars, the stars! We all sat out every evening on the back deck and watched the stars come out and saw planets, shooting stars, and the whole Milky Way -- sadly, a too rare occasion these days. The house was perfect -- we cooked in for the most part and the kitchen was fully equipped. The only down side was the wifi was really only accessible in one room upstairs, but gave us a better excuse to get away from it all. We will be returning!

Owner's Response: It is wonderful to hear that our guests enjoy the stars, which were a reason we built the Casa. The WIFI should be excellent throughout as there are two WIFI networks, one unsecured that dates to the early days, and one secured that is on a new fiber-optic system, and is secured. We will be updating the guide so it is clear how to access both networks. The new system covers the entire house, all three floors, and all decks, balconies, the hot tub, and a big portion of the yard surrounding the casa. But it is secured and you need to password.
