Why Gretchen Glasscock and Carla A. Salinas chose Uptown
As lifetime San Antonians, with time out for life in New York City and San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, we wanted to come home to be part of our community and help build its future. We chose Alamo Heights, because of our deep roots near here and because, from our point of view, it is the crown jewel of San Antonio's diverse neighborhoods. When we bought the house, it was a small, simple artist's cottage in a wooded area, with lovely fruit trees, and boasting a small studio for painting. Over the years we have expanded the house and filled it with our curated treasures, art and antiques from here and abroad, giving it a unique and eclectic flavor, but , most of all, a sense of warmth and welcome to all. Along with that expansion came the development of our separate casita, and opening it to guests from many States and, indeed , around the world, from places like Taiwan, China, Canada and Europe, all of whom it has been our pleasure to welcome and assist with their explorations of our home town.
What makes this Bungalow unique
What is truly unique about our home is its location in a one of a kind warm, friendly, beautiful and safe neighborhood, near the best of all that San Antonio offers, and the rich, welcoming ambiance we have been able to create here.

Everything was nice! Very clean and had everything we needed!
Met the owners on one of our days! Very sweet ladies! The property was lovely! We enjoyed the gazebo, patio area and the outdoor grill! Everything inside was clean and had everything we needed. Was nice to have hair items and washing machine and dryer! Will definitely refer this property to others
Great little place...
Everything was great! Had some wifi issues but It was handled quickly. The shower was a bit dirty and had ants but other than that, it was a very nice place with a excellent location to visit the Riverwalk/Seaworld/Fiesta Texas.
We’re very glad the guest, overall, enjoyed his stay. The shower had just been cleaned when he arrived but there were several in his party presumably all using the shower.
We have never seen ants in the area, including right after he checked out. There were crumbs in the bedroom & living room, possibly left inadvertently by his young child. That could have attracted ants although we didn’t see any. The guest was with us for 6 days so we wish he had reported this so we could have corrected any issues for him. Also, if needed, we keep ant spray under the sink, along with other emergency items. Nevertheless we regret any inconvenience & , of course always strive to give our guests a first class experience in a welcoming environment.
San Antonio Getaway
Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. We have stayed in several VRBOs and would rate Gretchen's Casita superior to all. The location was ideal for getting around the city and the vintage neighborhood made for pleasant morning walks. All of our requests were promptly attended to and our privacy was respected. What really impressed us was the availability of amenities. Every time we would say "I wonder if they have such and such" the item was there. There was nothing we needed that wasn't provided. We would highly recommend this property and when we return to San Antonio we won't be looking beyond Gretchen's Casita.
San Antonio Casita is Amazing!
Carla and Gretchen have a jewel of a place here in San Antonio! Alamo Heights is a safe section of San Antonio with easy access to all the area. You can UBER to all of San Antonio proper from there, and they are minutes from world class museums for a rainy day. We recommend a car rental for an extended stay, as the city of San Antonio is spread out. This rental is spotless, roomy and comfortable. With a full kitchen, refrigerator and hotplate you could easily cook if need be. They even left us some snacks and beer to start out with which was so kind! We came to rain in the area, so it was so nice to be able to spread out with a separate bedroom/living space. The bed is comfy, there are plenty of towels and sundries, and having a washer and dryer are always a plus! It was just my husband and myself, but you could easily sleep more comfortably There is beautiful outdoor seating, and you have two sweet cats to keep you company. Grocery options like Central Market with a great beer/wine selection and the HEB grocery chain give you plenty of choices to meet everyday needs. Ten minutes from the airport and three great Mall areas meet your needs for shopping and movies. Gretchen and Carla have information right there for great options regarding things to do see, close eateries, and their favorite spots to visit. Food here in San Antonio-delicious options in every price range! Everything about this rental is well thought out and handy. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and fun. Best of all, these are wonderful people to deal with, answering every question with a quick text. We even got stuck in San Antonio due to a flight issue, and they even offered the place if we needed it for the extra day! That kind of consideration made our vacation memorable. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! I can't say enough good things about it, and I almost hate to because I would never want to stay anywhere else! Heartfelt thanks to Carla and Gretchen, so sorry we couldn't meet in person! We love San Antonio!
A cozy little place for 2 with such a comfortable bed. The owners were so hospitable too, will definitely stay here again if the opportunity presents itself.
Centrally located. Convienient to everything!
The Casita was well equipped. It is located in a lovely neighborhood that is located close to shopping, restaurants and local attractions. We enjoyed our stay, and would return.
