John and I moved to Tishomingo with our two children (now grown) many years ago after he finished his tour in the military. John was raised nearby and when we moved here I fell in love with the people, lakes, rivers and woods. Having grown up on the plains of South Dakota, I was delighted to move to such a beautiful area. John is retired from his pallet building business, and enjoys watching television and talking to our dog. Donna, now retired was a Cosmetology Instructor and manager of a beauty college. She enjoys gardening, animals and meeting visitors.
Donna Pope purchased this chateau / country house in 1981
We fell in love with the property and built the home so we could enjoy being in the country. It is located one mile by road to Lake Texoma and only nine miles to Blue River, which makes it ideal for fishing, hiking and swimming. The woods are full of wildlife, birds, wild grape vines and dogwoods that add beauty to the ever changing seasons. When John and I moved to this area we found the people to be friendly and down to earth. We can go fishing, hunting or hiking close by and we love it!

The following is a letter to the Capital Democrat newspaper, Tishomingo, Okla. on April 18, 2013 from Daren and Mary of Kansas and is posted with their permission.
We celebrated our 19 wedding anniversary in your community this past weekend. We had a great time visiting with your local people, shopping in your stores, and eating some really good food.
We were very pleased to find that your local airport runway was newly resurfaced. This allowed us to fly directly into Tishomingo instead of landing in a nearby town and commuting in. We appreciate the value your community is putting into general aviation.
We hope that you are able to continue to implement improvements in your local airport. What will attract pilots is a good restaurant and a form of transportation to get there once landed. This most often is found in a courtesy car located at the airport for the pilot use.
You already have the good restaurants. We think we ate the best BBQ we have ever had at one location, and the homemade salsa at another was fantastic. I think you would be surprised at how much more your airport would be used if there was some type of transportation offered up landing. (A restroom would be great too!)
We would also like to say "thank you" to Donna Pope for her wonderful hospitality. Her accommodations and willingness to arrange transportation for us played an instrumental role in us choosing your community as our destination for the weekend.
We were bless with a perfect anniversary weekend. Thank you.
Donna was very kind and the house was what we expected. I would definitely go back.
My family loved spending the weekend at Donna Pope's place. The home was a wonderful get-away. We were close to the Blue River and enjoyed our time on the water. Donna's place had everything we needed for family adventure. I highly recommend lovely home. We plan on many more family adventures staying at her place.
I brought a group of 6th-12th grade students to a nearby academic competition and rented this home for the night before, as it began early in the morning. It turned out to be perfect for us! (Some of us slept on air mattresses, but it was just fine.) My students loved being able to hang out together during the evening, playing ping pong and pool. The house was clean, and the kitchen was big enough to handle our group of ten. Donna, our host, went above and beyond in making us feel welcome, and was kind enough to alert us in the morning to take a detour to avoid a bridge being out on our expected route to the competition.
We enjoyed our stay. The home is clean, inviting, and has everything you need for a get-away. The Tishomingo area is a beautiful place to visit. Donna is extremely helpful and knowledgable of the area. I highly recommend her home for your next visit. We will return.
This was our fourth or fifth stay @ Oklahoma Hills and it certainly won't be our last! For those of you who haven't visited, let me say that the decor honors the history of Oklahoma, the Native Americans, the frontiersmen (or, in some cases, the actors who portrayed them---we always stay in the John Wayne Room!) The house is large and easily accommodates 6 people (sleeping) but we had more than that for meals and socializing, as we have family in the area. There is a large kitchen island w/ several bar stools, as well as a dining table that easily seats 6. The kitchen is equipped w/ everything one would need for cooking and serving meals. The spacious LR has a sofa and several comfortable chairs. We have just returned (Dec. 2015) so we were inside more than during our summer visits. There are toys, a sandbox, etc. for the kids. The proprietor has always been totally gracious, but her welcome this time blew us away! She had decorated the house for Christmas w/ a beautiful tree, antique Christmas toys, etc. It was way beyond "the call of duty." We are extremely grateful to her!
Lovely house, fun decor we took tons of pictures of. The house had everything we needed, with appliances and entertainment. Home owners were welcoming, greeted and showed us around on arrival, and checked in as we were heading out last day. My family all had a good time and would recommended!
Pink Pistol, Miranda Lambert's store is just five miles away!
