Why David Hackford chose Fitzroy
The Gert. was once the infamous Gertrude Hotel at a time in 1920's when the area was controlled by gangsters, such as Squizzy Taylor. The Gert. has seen a lot though today it occupies a place in the city's eclectic heart. Central, secure with a soulful comfort that will tempt you back time and again.

Nice property, great location
It's a nice property with a great location. David is a responsive and helpful host. There are lots of thoughtful extras that you might need (stapler, paper shredder, pens and notepads, etc.). If you need reliable fast internet, I would recommend getting a dongle or upgrading your existing mobile phone data plan, as the wifi is spotty. This wasn't a major issue, but worth bearing in mid.
We had the pleasure of staying in this amazing apartment, with perfect location ( a little louder on weekends but perfectly manageable even with small child ). The nature of our stay was with short planning and David was incredible to deal with, prompt, fabulous and accommodating. Parking was surprisingly easy, even on weekends. Although a car is certainly not needed for this apartment given the brilliant central location.
For those coming to Melbourne, not knowing the location , it is truly on the doorstep of Melbourne’s finest eateries, shopping and access to everything.
We always stay in Carlton and Brunswick ans this will be a repeat favourite.
We booked this apartment for a family visiting overseas and they loved it.
Great Weekend at The Gert
Thank you for a lovely stay at The Gert. Perfect location and welcoming residence.
Will we definitely be back!!!
Loved staying here, the Gert was a wonderful place to stay!
Beautiful large apt, top notch locale
The Gert was a wonderful base for our week in Melbourne. As we had our 10 month old and Mother with us, we wanted a large place we could be comfortable and enjoy retiring to in the evening. The Gert delivered! It made for a very special week away for us all.
David was a fantastic host, quick to communicate, and providing a few groceries which made our Good Friday arrival a bit easier (nothing was open), as well as a portacot, highchair and child gates for our daughter.
NB: Although there is WiFi, the signal is a bit weak due to the construction of the property (concrete walls etc) so you may want to have some back up data if you intend on doing any online work at the property.
