Overview

About the property

Avalon River Retreat is a world away from care. A place to rest and restore body, mind and soul. For singles seeking space, couples looking for a place to love and be, or families wanting to share the wonders of the natural world with their children. Avalon will reconnect you to the land, the circle and cycles of life, the miracle of Mother Nature and recalibrate your place in the infinitessimal scheme of things.

Escape from the rat race! Get right away from the pressures and stress of modern life. Nurture yourself with Nature. Breathe in the clean country air, amaze yourself with the enormity of the heavens as you stargaze at night. Sit and fish or just wait for the platypus. Walk in the bush and look for koalas. Listen to the burble of the ever flowing river. Swim in pristine waters, kayak the 4 kilometres of river, marvelling at the wildlife. Restore your soul with home cooked organic food in a true oasis. Cuddle the animals or just view from a distance - the choice is yours.

Your accommodation is a one bedroom luxurious cedar cottage with glorious timber floors, world's comfiest sofa, wood fire, luxury linens and farm fresh eggs, milk, yoghurt and organic muesli for your Breakfasts. The cottage overlooks the main river flat where the alpacas and brumbies spend most of their time. Close enough to the farm house to come and enjoy feeding times (350m) but far enough away to enjoy the peace of a world of your own. Perched on a hillside, The Tree House has panoramic views of The Milky Way and beyond - leave the curtains open and drift off to sleep under star spangled skies.

This is a healing place. You will return refreshed to your world from our beautiful riverside oasis. The Tree House is made of wood, filled with timber furniture both antique and new - it will soothe your tired mind and feed your weary soul.

Choose to self cater or let us nurture you with traditional farm food. Breakfast on homemade organic muesli, fresh farm milk and home made yoghurt. Add some honey from our bees and you are ready for the day!

For supper BBQ our steer steaks or sausages, lamb, pork or goat (in season). Pick a salad from the veggie patch or feast on our home grown and handmade hearty soul food - taste the difference!

As in life, at Avalon the choice is always yours. Come back to your heart, reconnect with your soul, ground yourself in this beautiful place and return, refreshed, to your reality.

Included in your tariff:

- Homemade organic muesli

- milk, yoghurt, butter, honey & seasonal spread

- Farm fresh eggs

- Use of Kayaks for both Adults and Children

- Use of fishing rods if you do not have your own

- Driven farm tour of 400 acre property, meeting many animals

- Opportunity to feed all the animals, collect eggs etc

- Pony rides for the children

400 acres and 4 kilometres of river frontage

Avalon comprises 400 acres of rolling pasture, pristine rainforest and pasture. Adjoining State Forest means that our nearest neighbour is 4 kilometres away - feel your soul soar at the space and freedom. Our Platypus population is extraordinary and testament to the crystal clear waters - approximately one Platypus every 50 metres. Take the time to sit patiently and wait for the platypus to pop up. Koalas are rarer and more tricky to spot - but they are there so keep looking up! Plenty of goannas, wallabies, water dragons, Bass, turtles, frogs, parrots of all shapes and sizes, wedge tailed and sea eagles, so bring a camera and binoculars if you have them.

Admire the native species and get up close and personal with the domesticated farm animals. Hand feed the alpacas, cuddle the cows, get to know the horses, scratch a sow, feed the ducks and chooks and fill up on their delicious eggs.

Peace, quiet and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for 3 nights on the way home from Coffs Harbour to Sydney in early October. The cottage has superb views across a paddock to the river and is very comfortable for a couple. Note for self caterers, you'll be using the out door BBQ which has a burner for pots etc. The river walks are super and if you love animals you'll be right at home. Goldie their dog is super friendly. The property even boasts an extensive rain forrest walk which is lovely and a haven on hot days.

Incredibly Special Place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here during a recent period of bereavement. The property is a beautiful healing place (that you really don't want or need to leave) and Sophie and Ged were beyond wonderful, welcoming us as they did with open hearts and hearth.

Exactly what we needed

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Sophie, Ged and Ben for such a relaxing and welcoming stay on your property. The children loved all the animals, the river and the vast area to explore. I loved all the great food and relaxing in the peace and quiet that your property offered. Your hospitality was impeccable and the cottage was perfect for what we were looking for. We hope to see you again in the future.

Perfect quiete getaway even with children

  • 5 of 5

We passed 3 really nice days with Sophie and Ged: floating on the river with the kids, pony riding for our daughter, the tour to see all the animals, enjoying our fresh breakfast and the tasty dinners prepared by Sophie - thanks again for being such good hosts.

And yes, the tree house was a lovely place to stay: nicely decorated, beautiful view, with always kangoeroes or other animals to spot.

Our top stay in Australië so far!

Experience of a life time!

  • 5 of 5

Best way to wind down 2016! Thank you, Ged and Sophie for this beautiful experience. It was love at first sight for me when I saw the tree up on the hill in front of the cabin! Love it. Love it!

Some first-evers for me were petting Angel, the beautiful moo, Firefly the alpaca is so friendly and Venus the horse. She will always be in my memory! Venus is such a doll. She is so beautiful. Only minutes into our meeting and I swear I saw a smile from her when I was petting her.

Sophie and Ged … you did a great job with your farm. I am so happy that I made the decision to have this experience with you.

I fully recommend it for everyone, young and old. You owe yourself this experience of a life time.

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a weekend and although we were out all day we loved coming home each night to such a comfortable, peaceful and relaxed setting. The house is well set out, very clean and tidy and comes with a few homemade treats etc to enjoy while you are there.

We didnt get a chance to explore but did a bit of fishing and managed to catch a small.Bass in the 30 min fishing trip.

Hosts are lovely - welcoming, accommodating and good with communication. We will definitely be going back.
