The Beach House, Karragarra Island

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay nights

About the property

The Beach House is a perfect family holiday retreat, situated on the north-side of the amazing island of Karragarra. Karra, as it is known to the locals, is one of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. The Beach House has 3 bedrooms including double beds and a bunk bed. There are two bathrooms and a laundry. We are on town water supply and septic tank system. There are 2 living areas with the largest an open plan kitchen, dining and living room upstairs, enjoying the outlook. There is a north facing first story veranda along the entire front of the house with 180 degree views across the passage looking towards Lamb, Macleay and North Stradbroke Islands.

The Beach House property caught the eye of the director of the 7 television network Queensland's The Great South East program and has been featured on the show in 2015. To view the story send me an enquiry and I will email you the link.

Southern Moreton Bay Islands

Karragarra is the smallest of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, measuring about 250 metres wide and two kilometers long with a population of 140 permanent residents.

Close to the jetty there is a sandy beach with netted swimming enclosure, electric and wood barbecues, picnic tables and shady trees. Here also there are public toilets and a playground.

On Karragarra everything is within easy walking distance and like all the Bay Islands it has a friendly laid-back atmosphere. There are no shops on Karragarra, which means there is very little traffic and adds to the quiet safe environment . For provisions, visit the shops at Victoria Point before you leave or use the waterbus to travel to the other islands for shops, cafes and restaurants.

To get to Karragarra from the main land you can either travel on the barge (car ferry) or on the waterbus (passenger ferry).

What to do when you are at Karragarra

If you have your own boat or canoe you can go fishing or go on adventures to the other islands. We have a kayak which you are welcome to use, although you will need to bring your own life jackets. Visit the other islands for cafes and local shops or circumnavigate Karra, shorter at high tide if in the kayak! For those with a boat, Peel Island, Slipping Sands and Jumpinpin are top places to visit, to name just a few. On Karra; spend some time at the beach or read a book on the balcony and enjoy the 180 degree views while watching boats cruise by and dolphins swim along the passage. Go for walks around the island. This is a real getaway yet only 15 mins on the passenger ferry from the mainland. The house is set up with all essentials including a coffee machine (except missing the dishwasher for better family bonding)!
