There is snow at the Park! The temperatures run from early AM 30's to the 60's during the day. Don't forget your chains as you must have them to enter the National Park. You will not need chains to get to Starroaks unless you arrive in the middle of a major snowstorm. Built in 2005, this charming home is located on 15 acres in the Dunlap foothills, amongst a beautiful oak woodland. Skylights in the kitchen and living room give you a bright, cheerful atmosphere. The master bedroom has a queen bed and a soothing, romantic rose and green garden décor. The second bedroom, the Woodland room, has a full bed, and the third bedroom, the Bluebird room, has a full bed.
Linens and towels are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped. The picture windows in the living room, frame a vista view of the Central Valley cities, the coastal mountains at sunset and a breathtaking sight at night, of the stars and Milky Way with the city lights twinkling below. On the fourth of July, we watch the fireworks from afar, in over 5 different cities! This is the place to sit and bring your binoculars or telescope, to view the night stars.
In your front yard, a picnic table with umbrella gives you a vista view for breakfast. Along the side of the house there is a shade shelter with a large picnic table and a charcoal barbeque under the oaks, redbuds and elderberries overlooking the deer trail.
Roads and trails meander amongst the 15 acres, revealing lovely, shady spots with granite boulders, to sit upon, in restful contemplation. A horseshoe pit and lasso golf game area has been added just below the home.
Foothill bird watching offers a host of different species not found in the city, these include California quail, turkey vultures, red-tail hawks, acorn woodpeckers and various towhees, are just a few of the daily visitors. Deer and rabbits usually stop by to nibble the flowers.
Located 15 minutes away are the Twins restaurant and in the town of Squaw Valley: Bear Mountain Pizza, two small mini food marts; two gas stations, a library, feed store, hardware store, and car repair garage. Located 30 minutes away for water lovers, Pine Flat Dam with water-skiing, fishing, boating and swimming is a refreshing stop. We have even enjoyed sailing on the lake in our small 19 feet O’Day sailboat.
Avocado Lake, near Pine Flat, is a small lake, perfect for children to wade in and practice their swimming. The Kings River flows in this same area and offers more fishing holes and picnicking along its banks. Spend the afternoon golfing at the Sherwood Forest Golf Club. There are wine tasting tours and a fruit trail along the Blossom Trail as well.

Kimon came from Greece to go to college and never left. Now retired, we have added a small olive grove and in the fall, harvest olives for oil and for eating.
Elaine or Kimon purchased this house in 2005
This review is long overdue. My girlfriend and I spent 9 days in California, 3 days exploring Sequoia National Park and 6 days exploring Yosemite. The location is up in the mountains about 45 minutes from the entrance to Sequoia and Kings Canyon. The drive isn't bad at all since its a beautiful route. The house is very nice, everything was clean and Elaine and Kimon made us feel at home. We even set up my hammock one night and watched the beautiful sunset from the backyard with hummingbirds flying around us. One of our favorite parts of our stay was on the last day. We stopped by Elaine and Kimon's house to give them the keys and we chatted with them and they showed us around. They even gave us some delicious mulberry's for the road. My girlfriend and I would definitely stay here again just for the fact that Elaine and Kimon were great owners. We would have loved to had a chance to talk to them more.
Just got back from spending a full week at Starry Oaks Cottage with my mother and adult daughter. The 3 bedrooms were perfect for us, and we were very comfortable. The house is lovingly decorated and has many great amenities. Everything was very clean, and the location is beautiful! The drive to King's Canyon did take about 40-45 minutes, but the location is great in that there are restaurants and a gas station (very important!) within a 15 minute drive.
The A/C worked well, and there was plenty of hot water when we all wanted to get cleaned up after a long hot day of hiking. Loved seeing the quails and rabbits every day at the birdbath since it was an easy water source during the extreme heat when we visited!
Elaine was very helpful throughout the reservation and check-in process, and refunded the security deposit before we even got home. We really enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend the house. I hope to be able to return in the future.
Cottage was very nice - clean & the setup worked well for our family (3 teenagers). We were very, very late checking in, & Elaine was extremely nice about staying up late for us.
We were a group of 6 paragliders staying in the property for the weekend so the 3 bedroom 2 bathroom setup worked perfectly for us. The property exceeded our expectations in every way - the condition, the aesthetics are better in person than the photos, and the house was stocked with everything we needed. The location was very quiet. Elaine was lovely, very flexible with us throughout the reservation process and unintrustive throughtout our stay...but available if we needed her. The sunset from the front yard was one of the most stunning sunsets we have ever seen and the starry night was like a Christmas tree at night given the lack of light pollution in the area.
Elaine and the Starry Oaks property come highly recommended.
My husband, myself and two other couples stayed here for two nights. The house was very clean, well organized and comfortably decorated. The hostess was charming, welcoming, and informative. I would highly recommend Starry Oaks to anyone who wants a quiet, private comfortable place to stay with a wonderful view while touring Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. We would have liked to stay longer.
My husband and myself and our two adult children stayed for three days in this beautiful house. It was quite homey with all the items Elaine had in the house. It was very well stocked with everything you'd need, you just had to bring your own food. The outdoor area was really nice and you felt quite relaxed walking around the gardens she and her husband had put in. We could tell she was a bird lover by all the things in and around the house. I have to admit it was a drive to Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP. But the price that was charged for the home made it worth it. We would definitely rent it again if we were to go back. Thank you Elaine and Kimont
