About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 4)

Grafton is a very special place and West Corner is a very special historic home. We welcome you to enjoy our vacation home and the Grafton community. You will be hard pressed to find a more authentic Vermont village experience; where time appears to remain standstill, history is alive around every corner and where man's creation and nature's beauty are in perfect harmony. The village is home to some of the most beautiful examples of early new england architecture, and the entire village is in the National Register of Historic Places. Named one of the 10 most beautiful places in America by USA Today and one of 1000 Places To See Before You Die by leading Travel Guides.

Built circa 1840, our home, called the West Corner, is nestled in the west end of the village center, providing unusual privacy for an in village home. It is very private, yet only a minute's walk to the main street, village park, Grafton Tavern, the general store and churches.

The home is in superb condition, maintaining much of its original character yet providing all the comforts and conveniences you would expect from today's dwellings - thanks to the meticulous update undertaken last winter.

A steeple high attached barn, which once served as the grain room and firewood storage, welcomes you into the home, and also serves as our mudroom and Gallery. The high ceiling and rustic barnwood interiors are classic farmhouse style.

Next to the grain room is our richly appointed library cum bar, with floor to ceiling wood panels, comfortable leather seating and, just a great setting to relax in, day or night. The antique rumford fireplace is not for use (there is a bigger fireplace in the living room)

Oversized wall to wall window lets plenty of sunlight to stream in, making it a great place to read.

The huge living cum dining room offers a fireplace and plenty of space of relaxation, dining or for enjoying a good fire. Attached to the living room is the sunroom, with its own breakfast nook table for four and a seating area. This space is excellent for enjoying summers and is fully wire-meshed for protection from bugs.

The home offers two bedrooms and two full baths, plus another half bath. The large master bedroom with a king bed and new Casper mattress offers a beautiful sitting area by the window to enjoy a morning coffee or to simply relax on the rocking chair and watch the village life go by from a distance. The guest bedroom has a beautiful primitive full bed with curtains. The home provides a sophisticated and country elegant living atmosphere with plenty of formal and casual living spaces. While the home is designed for four people, an extra air mattress, which can be used in the master bedroom or in the den, allows for occasional additional guests.

The fully renovated country kitchen comes complete with brand new appliances, all cookware, most basic ingredients and a refrigerator stocked with essentials in order to make your arrival comfortable. You will find a wide sele tion of teas, gourmet coffee, maple syrup, pancake mix, spices, condiments, etc etc. Silver flatware, antique knives, antique china and primitive cast iron dishes are carefully hand selected, completing an authentic country kitchen feel. It is fully equipped and we warn you that it will tempt you to go gourmet.

Throughout the home you will find plenty of books, great vintage stereo systems painstakingly put together by us over the years, and hundreds of CDs, records and cassettes from our personal collection. You will be able to connect your ipod to this system as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your house is a dream. We were in heaven here.We had a lovely stay in your home. It was clean, stylish and comfortable. You were easy to reach and responsive. It was very welcoming to have fresh eggs, milk, butter and cheese provided upon our arrival in addition to the basic condiments one needs in order to cook. That was very helpful. Also, I defy anyone to find a more charming New England town anywhere. I would definitely like to rent your home again.

A wonderfully relaxing spot!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay at 111 Hinkley Brooke Road!! It is the perfect place for a family of three. Our stay was over President’s weekend (my birthday too). My daughter and I love to ski and prefer Okemo of all the Vermont mountains. Wife does not ski, but is thrilled with a confortable, snug, warm spot to enjoy a good book or a stroll into a charming little village. This was the perfect for us—Okemo is about 35 minutes away by very scenic drive via Chester— and Grafton is just pure story book little Vermont village. We arrived in time for a late dinner at the Phelps barn pub (attached to the Grafton Inn), which was great with a guitar playing songster belting out requests. The little market makes a killer grilled cheese sandwich and has a nice selection of craft beer, local cheese and other great provisions. The house itself is just delightful!! The kitchen it really well appointed (and despite other reviewers complaints) and we produced a spectacular birthday dinner here Saturday night. Sipping a local long trail brew or a little single malt by the either of fire places is just the perfect way to apres ski (we hate the crowded scenes) and relax. We really appreciated the ample store of dry, seasoned firewood in the mud room which meant no need to retrieved it from outside. The stereo system in the main living room is world class and the music collection is amazing...you can plug your own device too, but we were too pleased to sample the owners deep collection of traditional jazz. We tried to remain mostly “unplugged” from world during our stay, but really appreciated the iMac and printer provided so that we could print documents to claim our lift tix!! The linear lay out of the house in fun and we came to appeciate very much the outer mud room with its harvest table for sorting out all of our layers of outerwear and gear. The hosts ask for house shoes only and we were happy we brought our own slippers from home. Our only nit...if there is one...is that there is no outdoor light in the driveway and we were confused by the entry doors when we arrived after dark...even with our flash lights. Now we know the house

Lovely home in quintessential Vermont town

  • 5 of 5

We spent a very memorable Thanksgiving at this beautifully restored historic home in Grafton. The home is located at the end of a quiet lane among the trees with the sound of the nearby river running. We could see the quintessential white steeple church from the front door, and could easily walk to the well supplied country store/cafe (with deliciously aged Grafton cheeses), and the Grafton Inn. We also attended the early morning yoga class at the Mountain Mind and Movement studio within walking distance from the home.

The owners have creatively decorated their lovely home with a perfect combination of traditional and contemporary furnishings, art and photography. The modern kitchen, with two ovens, a very well stocked pantry, and many nice serving pieces allowed us to prepare and to set a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. We enjoyed watching and listening to the fire crackle and burn while we shared our Thanksgiving feast at the large antique dining table. Each area of the house is on its own modern heating zone, so even when we didn't have the fire burning, we were always cozy and warm. We slumbered peacefully each night in the large, comfortable four poster beds. One day we drove to nearby Chester where we had brunch at the Moon-Dog Cafe (good lattes and organic food). Afterward we had a fun time exploring several of the antique stores. On our last day as we wistfully drove away from this amazing home, as if on cue, a few snow flakes began to fall. We look forward to returning during a snowy winter. Thank you for sharing this very special place!

Charming and tastefully appointed.

  • 5 of 5

The 1840's house itself was bigger and nicer than expected and very tastefully decorated throughout. The kitchen was very useful and had all the essential cooking tools to satisfy even Gordon Ramsey. We also enjoyed the library bar "Cognac room" with fireplace and flat screen TV. I brought my Amazon Fire stick so I can watch CNN since there was no cable. The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable. We very much enjoyed the house in every way and will definitely stay there next time visiting the quaint town of Grafton.

Amazing, perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just got back from a relaxing getaway. The house was stunningly decorated. We had everything we could have needed, and any last minute items were a short drive away. The welcome package was thorough and detailed, we didn't have any issues or questions. Sonali was beyond communicative and helpful with everything we needed.

We loved spending time in the beautiful bar room. While TV and wifi was provided, we took advantage to disconnect from the world and enjoy quality time together. Grafton is a short drive away to the ski mountains, we took a day and explored the craft breweries and cheese farms. Highly recommended, we will definitely be back.
