Munbilla - Byron Bay Hinterland

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay nights

About the property

"Munbilla" is a uniquely designed house in the hinterland of Byron Bay and a quick drive to the township of Mullumbimby and to beaches and cafes at Brunswick Heads and Byron Bay.

The house has high ceilings and an open living/dining area with fireplace. There is an abundance of light, louvred airflow and treed views through large windows. The main bedroom has a king size bed, walk-in wardrobe and full bathroom. The second and third bedrooms have queen size beds and built-in robes. There is a great separate bathroom across the hall. The floors are timber with scattered rugs and each room has a ceiling fan. The house is tastefully furnished and the walls adorned with original artwork and hangings. Enjoy the large deck with alfresco dining, beautiful sunsets and bushland views.

The house is set on a 25-acre piece of paradise with active bird life and surrounded by expansive lawns for children and pets. The owners also reside on the acreage, but a good distance away and out of sight. The owners are only a phone call away to assist in any way possible.

There are two extremely friendly dogs who also live on the property and who love to welcome guests. Both dogs have had all inoculations (and more) for the protection of all pets. Apart from a willingness to greet you and play with any pet guest they will not disturb you.

There are many attractions in Mullumbimby and the Byron Hinterland. Mullumbimby is our closest town, a welcoming laid-back and thriving place. Mullumbimby Farmers' market is on every Friday from 8.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. with many types of local produce available. "Kiva Spa" and "Clay" provide a variety of pampering treatments. Mullumbimby offers many fine restaurants and cafes providing organic food (Eden's Landing and Santos), Japanese (Izakaya yu), Asian fusion (Rock & Roll), Gourmet Pizza (Milk & Honey), Italian (The Other Joint), burgers (The Empire), and consistently good breakfast and lunch dishes (Scarecrows). There are also two hotels that serve very good pub food. Mullumbimby also has several excellent quirky collectible and second-hand clothing stores. Crystal Castle is a 2 minute drive (15 minute walk) from Munbilla and offers a range of interests as well as refreshments. "The Farm" near the Pacific Highway turn-off to Byron Bay has great coffee, food, atmosphere, farm animals, organic food, flowers, and a kids' playground. Absolutely panoramic views can be seen driving along the ridge to Byron Bay (15 minutes), Bangalow (10 minutes) and Brunswick Heads (10 minutes). The dramatic Minyon Falls is a 20 minute drive from Munbilla.

"We had an amazing time at Munbilla. The house is exactly as Anne describes it – it’s in a stunning location, on a serene property and Anne couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. We had every luxury we could have hoped for, and just wished we’d booked for longer! DEFINITELY hoping to be back there one day. A little piece of heaven".

The pictures say it all

  • 5 of 5

Munbilla brings together all of the elements that make the Byron Hinterland such a special place. Tucked away in it's own completely private oasis, Munbilla has a palatial, airy feel, with glass opening to take in the exquisite beauty of the rainforest outside. An ambience that is completely casual, comfy and cosy, with soft carpets and inviting artworks, as well as lovely soft, linen bedding. The house is clean, contemporary and tasteful while still maintaining a casual feel. The kitchen looks basic in the pics but I enjoyed cooking in Munbilla's kitchen and found that it functioned well with a good inventory and appliances that were of high quality.

The short, picturesque drive to local spots like Byron, Bangalow or Mullumbimbi was part of the enjoyment.

We are quite particular with what we choose for our annual retreats and Munbilla

ticked all the boxes for us. Many thanks to Anne for such a lovely stay. We sure hope to be back.

Great Host and lovely unique home.

  • 5 of 5

Munbilla is well situated 20 minutes drive from Byron Bay, 15 minutes drive from Bangalow and 10 minutes drive from Mullumbimby.

It is located on beautiful scenic property which compliments the unique design of the house.

Communication - Anne is a brilliant host, and communication was exemplary from the inital enquiry I made. Every query I made prior to the stay was answered very promptly, and Anne came up to introduce herself when we arrived. She was happy to accommodate our usually well behaved 3 dogs (and didn't complain when we went out and they barked incessantly - in fact she called to let us know out of concern for our dogs welfare). Anne also allowed us to organise a pet sitter the following day while we attended a wedding so as not to have a repeat issue with our dogs.

In addition to the above, Anne also kindly allowed us to extend our stay at short notice when we had car issues and required additional night’s accommodation.

The only notes I would make are that we did not have any Mobile Phone reception while on the property (with Telstra, Optus or Vodafone), and unfortunately the data plan for house wifi had been used up the week prior by other guests which made communication with our family in relation to my brother’s wedding difficult.

In terms of cleanliness I give Munbilla an overall 5 star rating, however I feel the wet areas are more like a 3-4. I believe this is as a result of the very humid climate in the hinterland area which is not within Anne's control and therefore do not want it to effect the overall rating.

Thanks for a lovely stay!

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay here with our 2 dogs. The property is ideal for a relaxing time away. Close enough to pop into Byron or Mullumbimby. Mullumbimby market was great for purchasing fresh produce. We are already planning when we can go back:)))

Wonderful Property

  • 5 of 5

We only had one night at Munbilla which we now regret as we really enjoyed our stay. A wonderful location and great house that the owners have clearly spent a great deal of effort on the eclectic and the exquisite interior. We hope to return and for longer!
