|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
Get ready to relax--this beloved home is fresh, light-filled and welcoming. Deceivingly large for a traditional Cape, it has plenty of room for a family or two.
Visitors comment on the size of the house: a generous living room for gathering, a dining room seating 10 with access to front and backyard decks, a separate wing of the house holding the large open kitchen with island, a separate dining area, and a family room with a TV and a small loft. Kids love climbing the ladder to this little fun spot in the eaves. The general living spaces are well separated from the sleeping quarters, which allows for quiet and privacy. A 1/2 bath off the family room area also helps keep activity away from the bedrooms.
This 6-bedroom sleeps ten, with flexible bed arrangements. All the bedrooms have air conditioners, although the breezes off the marsh and ocean are perfect for sleeping and relaxing. Each bedroom is simply decorated, with shades and/or curtains and extra bedding for comfortable sleeping. Bed linens and towels are provided. Pack-n-play and wooden crib available. Renters provide baby linens. For toddlers, we have bed rails for three beds and three waterproof bed pads, upon request.
We don't claim to be fancy, but we do try to make families feel welcome. The house has Wifi and cable, a Wii console, and DVDs and a DVD player. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor games and books for kids and grownups. Every year we make improvements to the property; our returning renters enjoy and compliment our annual updates.
The backyard is very private, surrounded by trees and brush. Birdwatchers, sunbathers and grillers enjoy the space. A large deck overlooks a tree-filled, sun-dappled space. The outdoor shower is a pleasure. Front and side decks also provide outdoor space to enjoy the sun and breezes. Front and back driveways easily provide parking for 4-6 cars, or a boat. (Town boat access is next to Keyes Beach, 4/10 mile from the house).
***Barnstable Beach Pass included covers parking fees at the 17 local beaches*** Walking to the beach is easy with our beach wagon, which can help carry the beach umbrellas, coolers, beach chairs & toys, and beach towels we provide.
Sorry, no smoking or pets.
We are teachers, and spend many off-season weekends and a week each summer in the house ourselves. It is our family home, not just a rental property. Our five children spent summer time here, walking back and forth to the beach daily. They enjoyed the snack bar and shallow waters of the family-friendly Keyes Beach. Now that all the 'kids' are grown, we enjoy the house with them, their friends and our granddaughter. We eat out in Hyannis, and head out to many of the 17 beaches in Barnstable. Our favorites include Keyes, Covell, and Dowse's. Whether the house is full of family or we are just the two of us, it suits our needs.
Dan & Lu purchased this house in 1992
Dan visited the Cape as a boy, and wanted to provide that experience for his five children. After months of searching, this property proved ideal with its location and space. The house has become a home over years of work and improvements, and we enjoy looking for ways to update the property every year.
This house so well-located, between town and beach. There is always something to do nearby, or if we wish to travel up the Cape, a day trip is an easy adventure. When we spend time in the house, we enjoy the backyard view of tall oaks and listening to the birds. From the backyard and the second floor, the view of sunrise over the marsh is quite calming. When the house is full of our large family, there's space for all, and as our granddaughter comes to enjoy the house and beach, we are delighted to share it with her. In particular, we look forward to when she is old enough to climb into the loft in the family room and enjoy it as her mom, aunt and uncles did in their youth. Hanging out in the kitchen and family room together and then sharing a meal at the big round dining table is one of our family joys. Playing charades in the living room has been family tradition, as is house-wide hide-and-seek. We've mentioned the nearby beach, and the stroll to it is wonderful any time of year.
Dan and Lu,
I spent last weekend at your beautiful home. It was rented for a multi-generational mom get away. There were seven of us and there was plenty of space for us all to spread out. It was particularly helpful to have bedrooms and a full bath on the first floor as my mother is 88 years young. We all enjoyed your large kitchen with the cozy family room attached. It was great to wakeup and start the day without disturbing those that were still sleeping on the other side of the house. It was very close to the beach and to downtown Hyannis with lots of good restaurant choices. Everyone agreed it was the perfect spot to relax and spend some quality time. The home is stocked as discribed with sheets, towels, books, games & paper products making the experience even easier. I can't think of anything that was missing. I would definitely recommend your home to anyone and I hope to rent your home again in the future. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us. Sharon from CT
If and when we go back for a family vacation, this is the only place I would want to stay. The home felt like our home when we walked in Owner was a delight to work with and would recommend to everyone. Close to docks, etc. Food was great on the main street. Best vaca ever!!
My extended family and I (parents, siblings and their spouses) rented this home for a wedding we had over Labor Day weekend. My initial attraction to the listing was the number of bedrooms that the house had for each of the couples we had staying there, and that turned out to be one of the best features of the home. We all comfortably fit and had a place to sleep without the need of a futon or pullout couch. The dining room table sat us all (in a circle), which was nice to have everyone at the table at the same time for the dinner we decided to stay in and cook on the grill. The bedrooms are on the other side of the house as the living room and kitchen, which was nice because the adults who were up playing card and board games didn't wake up the sleeping children with any noise. Having two small children in our party, it was a relief to have a pack n play, high chair, and toys waiting for us upon arrival and saving us the pain of having to bring them along or make do without them. The house is in a beautiful part of Hyannis Port and walking distance to a lovely little town beach where we sat and got sun, watched the ferry pass back and forth in the distance, and brought our children fishing for the first time. We thoroughly enjoyed taking turns napping on the hammock, sitting outside on the many decks the home has, and walking down to the beach with our kids. We had a great family vacation here and talk of making it an annual trip! The only feedback I have (that really wasn't a big deal) was that the downstairs could get a little stuffy without air conditioning (there is AC in the bedrooms though), but it was September and the breezes were fine. The cleaning checklist upon checkout was a little lengthy and I thought would be covered by the rental fee, but we made it out that day with plenty of time to spare.
Very nice home and very well appointed. Wonderful living spaces, bedrooms comfortable and convenient. Set up convenient for families with different aged children. We very much enjoyed eating on the deck in the evening as well as socializing on other porches and in outdoor areas . The kitchen area was very efficiently laid out, and the kitchen was well stocked with appliances, dishes, pots and pans. It was also very nice to have beach items provided.
The Hyannis area provided good beach choices, and being able to walk to the beach was great. All in all we had a very nice week at a good location. We would recommend this property to friends and family.
This is the second year our family of 8 have stayed at Dan and Lu's beautiful home. The one large bedroom upstairs was split into two rooms and they looked great. It afforded much more privacy. Their home is always clean and neat and has wonderful cross breezes to cool many of the rooms. They have air conditioners in each of the bedrooms. We love the fact that there are two seating areas...one for the kids to play and another one for grownups, each with a TV. There is plenty of room in each of these areas for the whole family as well. They have toys for the kids too! Dan and Lu make sure you have staples in the kitchen and bathroom to begin your stay. As a welcome gift they left us Cape Cod Taffy...yum...and Creamery Ice Cream...the best we have ever had. There are several outdoor areas to sit and relax. We used the BBQ on two evenings. Their home is conveniently located to restaurants and Main Street and beaches, at the most a 5 minute drive. You could walk to the beach on Sea Street. They always leave a beach pass for access to Barnstable Beaches. You can purchase additional beach passes if you need too. Dan and Lu supply beach chairs, boogie boards, jug, coolers and towels. I highly recommend their rental. We have already booked our stay for next year!
We would stay here again if we vacation at the Cape. The home and amenities were perfect for our families.
Great location with easy access to town and beach. Hyannis, the main town on Cape Cod, has an airport, bus & train service, ferries to the islands, restaurants, cinema, mall and shops. Main Street is a mile from our house, yet the house feels private and close to the shore. Two beaches are walking distance, and three others are short car rides away. We easily travel up and down the Cape from our house.
