Grey Gums - feel the serenity

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Grey Gums is an owner built, eco friendly, charming, unique house, offering great value accommodation, hand crafted from recycled materials and sandstone coloured Timbercrete bricks. Surrounded by tall gums, the house is set on 12 acres. It features quality, woodwork fittings and furnishings for you to enjoy. It is light and spacious and exudes serenity.

There are 4 bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed and one has a king single also. We supply quality linen for you. There is a 3 way bathroom and an ensuite bathroom with the master bedroom. 3 spacious showers and 2 bath tubs add to the comfort of your stay. This will enable many guests to get ready for a wedding or to relax after a long day in the outdoors.

We can accommodate a small 10th person on our fold out bed.

There is a hot outdoor shower and bathtub in which to soak providing soothing relaxation under the stars amidst the serenity of grey gums, scribbly gums and other native bush, rain or shine.

Enjoy al fresco dining in our new outdoor, covered area.

There are 4 sets of outdoor tables and chairs for different uses.

Outdoor fire pit surrounded by rustic seating enhances your stay on cosy nights.

We provide all the wood for the outdoor fire pit and the indoor wood heater.

View the night sky and constellations with no light pollution.

There is a large, well equipped modern kitchen with a coffee maker and an outdoor barbecue.

A selection of teas, coffee, milk and olive oil are provided.

You are welcome to add to your meals with tasty treats from our kitchen garden and citrus trees when the veggies, herbs and fruit are in season.

As we make our own electricity and solar hot water, collect rain water, and take care of sewage on site, you can minimize your environmental impact. We recycle all the plastics, metal, glass, paper and organics in the bins provided. You don't need to bring bottled water as the rain water is very clean to drink and tastes fantastic but is safe as we use a UV light to kill microbes, not chlorine.

Relax in front of the cosy, wood fired heater to watch TV ----- or lose yourself in a good book. There is a variety of indoor games and lots of perfect holiday reading in our collection of books and magazines for both children and adults and many nooks for relaxing.

Kangaroos, wombats and a variety of native birds frequent the property, which backs on to a nature reserve overlooking the Kangaroo River. Spring time is the time to see the echidnas out on a walkabout. For those energetic souls, or those who love a casual stroll, this provides for some very scenic bush walking. There is also a 150m bushwalk on the property with many local plants identified and discussed. Due to our natural setting, with many wild animals and that we border the Kangaroo River Nature Reserve, which has fox (and DOG!) poisoning bait stations, we cannot be a pet friendly accommodation.

Bushwalk (medium difficulty) for approximately 30 minutes to the Kangaroo River through scribbly gum forest and dry and shallow creek bed for a refreshing swim.

A ping pong table, pool table and foozball table are also provided for your enjoyment. There is plenty of space for backyard ball games too.

We realize that it can be difficult to keep connected in Kangaroo Valley so we offer free WiFi and a cordless phone for local calls and incoming calls. There is also phone docks on which to play your music.

We are keen to keep it rented and will do what we can to accommodate you. The owners/managers live on site and will do whatever we can to assist you to make your stay an enjoyable experience. An early check in or a late check out can usually be arranged at no extra cost. This is only possible if we have no other guests arriving or departing on your dates.

It is only 5 mins by car or a 30 minute stroll to Kangaroo Valley's boutique coffee shops and cafes, as well as interesting shops and galleries to browse.

Kangaroo Valley is a cyclists' paradise. There are a number of excellent road and mountain bike trails to enjoy.

For those people who would like to enjoy the 'Flavours of the Valley' cooking classes, it is only 2 minutes drive from Grey Gums.

Excellent property and excellent hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We were two families staying at the property and there was more than enough space for all of us. The fire inside and the fire pit outside kept us warm. Well maintained and clean property with a very well stocked kitchen. The hosts have paid a lot of attention to detail. Beds are very comfortable (I have a serious back issue with a herniated disc) and the bed was just perfect.

All in all, a great stay!

Perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful girls weekend away at Grey gums. We arrived later than expected on Friday night and Dennis had the fire going so the place was toasty warm for us. The house was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed, we hardly left the property all weekend. The surroundings were peaceful and it was literally a 5 mins drive from Kagaroo Valley Village. The perfect weekend getaway from the city. We left feeling relaxed. Thanks Dennis and Helen.

Wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5

Six embroiderers spent two fantastic nights at this very well appointed house. The fire was beautifully warm and we loved the quirky features of the house and property. The beds were very comfortable. The house was 1.4 km from the township of Kangaroo Valley.

Dennis, the host, was a delight to deal with and nothing was too much trouble.

I hope we get to stay again soon.

Just what we needed

A great house for a 2 or 3 small of families to share and a great place for young kids. We didn't leave the property all weekend. So relaxing. My 4yr old asked if we can do it all again. We probably will :)

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in this very well thought out property. We were impressed with the attention to detail such as little touches, like fresh flowers throughout the house. The bedding was very comfortable. Dennis made sure we had everything we needed on arrival and made sure we knew if there was anything he or Helen could help us with we could just give them a call. We were 3 couples and one single and felt there was plenty of room in the house for our group. There are lots of different places throughout the property where you can sit and catch the sun. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property for a small group. It would also be a great place for a family.

Beautiful property!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely weekend at Grey Gums, we were 4 couples and comfortably fit into the 4 bedrooms. The house is laid out nicely and the fireplace heats up the whole house nicely. The outdoor area is great we spent most of our time outside, by the firepit, around the numerous tables and chair settings and just laying on the grass! Its very private yet a very short drive to town and you could walk it pretty easily as well. We will definitely be back.
