New Log cabin just 5 minutes east of Luray, close to Lake Arrowhead and Shenandoah National Park. Awesome views of Skyland Drive. Relax in hot tub, grill on proch, breathe that fresh mountain air. Top of the line cabin with very nice kitchen with granite counters, lcd tv bluray player, greatroom with large rock fireplace. Private but close to activities Paved driveway since 2013 Awesome views!
This was amazing! Stayed there for Valentine's Day with our dog and it was the most relaxing and gorgeous place to get away :) Plus, David was so easy to work with.
My boyfriend and I at the last minute booked this property for a weekend away before he left for a month. It was perfect! David was very prompt with his response, and very nice to us. He was understanding about our late arrival and had everything prepared and ready to go. The hot tub was already heated up and clean! The wide open layout, the screened in porch and the open porch in the front was perfect for our pup to run wild in, which was a huge plus! David had no problem having her there which we very much appreciated! The views were spectacular even though it was foggy we got some great pics! The driveway wasn't a big deal with my SUV but bc its paved I don't see it being a big deal for anyone except maybe in the winter if its icy. The fireplace was also a beautiful touch as well and we LOVED the couch. he beds weren't bad at all either, best we've slept in a long time honestly. We made steaks, corn on the cob and potatos and had enough utensils and dishes with what was in the kitchen. The small things people complained about in other reviews didn't matter to us. I would recommended getting a rug for the floor in the bedroom by the hot tub; Only so the owner can avoid having to replace the floor from dripping water after the hot tub but that's about it. We are already planning to come back in the fall hopefully for a week this time because one weekend was not enough in this amazing cabin!
Peacefully tucked away up a steep drive just minutes from Lake Arrowhead, this cabin defines R&R. The beautiful views of Skyline Drive and Stonyman Mountain, the refreshing breath of mountain air and the warmth of the hot tub will wash all your cares away.
This cabin is beautifully maintained and well-loved. Communication with David regarding our check-in and check-out was fast and easy and all things were in order and as expected upon arrival. The beds are cozier than a hotel room and all of us remarked on how well we slept. We loved having a fire in the fireplace in the evenings, and the hot tub was perfect for staying warm while watching the sky turn beautiful shades of red and orange during sunset. The house is stocked with towels and basic amenities (toilet paper, soap, cleaning supplies) but I would recommend checking in before heading to the store as past guests often leave behind staples (salt and pepper, butter, some frozen items, etc). I might recommend bringing your own towels as the ones provided have adopted the hot tub smell. The nearest grocery store, Walmart, is about a 15 minute drive away (there are also restaurants, gas stations, fast food, etc). We didn't use the grill, but there is one on the screened in porch, as well as a fire pit in the driveway.
I recommend spending an afternoon exploring Old Town Luray as well (there is a cute river walk that is well worth exploring). The boys played golf at the Caverns Country Club which has gorgeous views, while my friend and I enjoyed a hike. The line for Luray Caverns at noon was out the door and around the corner, so ARRIVE EARLY. We explored Lake Arrowhead after checking out on Sunday, and wished we had explored the area more on Saturday. There are also some great wineries and distilleries on the way to the cabin from D.C,. of note was Bull Run Winery and Desert Rose Winery.
This cabin is the perfect retreat from city life, and I cannot wait to return. Thank you, David, for opening your beautiful log cabin to us.
My husband and I and another couple rented the lake Arrowhead Cabin for a quick weekend away. LOVE the location... its outside of Luray but close enough to do a quick jump in to town to grab groceries and even go back to pick up forgotten items. Once you get to the cabin you are far enough away from the neighbors to feel remote. But there is another cabin down the driveway which was empty except on Saturday night. Didn't hear them though. The driveway is STEEP but wasn't an issue. The view is beautiful, the hot tub was clean and already fired up so we just had to take the cover off and hop in! Which we did!! We went wine tasting and the boys wanted to check out the Whiskey distillery so we toured that too. All within driving distance.
The cabin is new and was clean and wide open! We loved the floor plan, the fireplace/ TV etc. The beds were comfortable and made. Bathrooms were clean with linens for us. The master bedroom is spacious with a door out on to the hot tub which is convenient. A curtain NEEDS to be put on the door window. The light in the morning definitely wakes you up.
There are no rugs in the whole cabin. I would suggest rugs be put in front of all the doors (front, deck, master, kitchen) at a minimum. The kitchen definitely needs better lighting. It had all the basic accouterments necessary for cooking both nights - Chicken cordon bleu Friday and Steaks with sweet potatoes and apples on Saturday. We tried to use the grill but it didn't work right. it's old and was pretty dirty so we just used the oven. We are year round grillers so that was disappointing. Rocking chairs on the deck would be a HUGE bonus over the wrought iron table and chairs.
All in all we loved it and are hopefully going back in August and very much looking forward to it.
The cabin has beautiful views, a great deck, easy access to hiking and a nice great room/kitchen area, but is poorly maintained and equipped. I'd suggest looking elsewhere if possible. We went for a weekend getaway and will likely look elsewhere if we go back to the area again.
Pros: Quiet, nice great room, great views, nice deck, pet friendly.
Cons: Doors did not open or close well, kitchen is furnished haphazardly, beds are lumpy, towels smelled musty, cabin was cheaply furnished and equipped, must dispose of your own trash well off the property, exposed cables hanging from great room ceiling.
We were lead to believe that everything would be in working order. Upon arrival (this was the weekend of Snowmaggedon 2016) the first thing we wanted to do was hop in the hot tub during the snow storm and enjoy a few adult beverages. I lifted a portion of the hot tub lid and could feel the hot air rush out so we knew we could get into swimsuits and enjoy the reset of the afternoon and possibly some of the evening in the hot tub. We all changed and braved the snow covered deck only to find an orangish rust / algae smelling gunk all over the sides of the hot tub and particles floating in it - with all due respect to the owner - it was disgusting and we didn't last more than ten minutes. It took me almost 3 full days of contacting the owner after our stay to finally get in touch with him and attempt to get a refund. It was my girlfriends birthday weekend and the only things she wanted were a hot tub and a fireplace and half of those were "broken" at this cabin. I actually had to call David using a different phone so he would answer. He ended up only giving us a small refund for our time there. To be honest - I don't want to make any accusations and I will let you draw your own conclusions - but I will not be doing business with him again. The sheets had chocolate chips in them as did the couch. There were pretzel pieces left on the floor. We were SNOWED in and there were no baking items other than flat sheets for cookies. "Fully Furnished" was a bit misleading. I hope everyone else has a great stay if you so choose - but my recommendation would be "renter be ware". The views after the storm were great - but we were also told we would be plowed out and that didn't happen either t(hanks again David!) just more promises they didn't keep. Glad I have a Jeep.
