The Periwinkle Palace offers space for 4 overnight guests with two separate bedrooms, a bathroom, a full kitchen with top-notch appliances and full laundry facilities. There is ample sized deck and private backyard are perfect for relaxing and entertaining a small group.
Great location!: The Periwinkle Palace is an easy walk, bike ride, bus trip or car ride to some of Austin's favorite places. A very few of those places include Ginny's Little Longhorn, the Original Threadgill's Restaurant , Central Market , Alamo Drafthouse, Torchy's Tacos, Lucy's Fried Chicken, Hey Cupcake, etc. Grocery stores, drug stores, thrift shops, bookstores, coffee shops are all within walking distances. While a car is recommended for almost any place in Texas, there is a bus stop within three blocks from the house making for an easy 5 mile ride to downtown and bikes can be rented at almost any local bike store. Austin is a great place to ride a bike and has great bike trails and lanes from one end to the other!
Kid-Friendly. : The owner of this property has worked in book business for 30 years and has filled this home with books, meaning that there should be book for everyone to enjoy during a little down time. This book collection includes a large number of children's books, along with videos, dvds, some toys, and a fort in the backyard!
Owner close by, but not to close, to help you. : Please note that the owner occupies a writer's bedroom and a studio adjoining the main house on this same property. Easily available to act as a resource, but mostly invisible to house guests.
I am originally from Durham, North Carolina, and came here via Athens, Georgia, and New Orleans, and I love this town. (Music is everywhere!) It is easily the most friendly and fun place I have lived. I have been in the book business for 34 years and feel fortunate to have worked with some of the best authors on the planet. In fact, there is a large library in the house for anyone who has a fondness for the printed material.

This property in north central Austin provides a warm, cozy feeling of home and close enough to all of the things that make Austin a GREAT place. There is so much fun to be had in this town of ours.
My wife, daughter and I stayed here for a week while visiting friends and working in Austin. As is often the case on HomeAway, the photos don't do the house justice. It's spacious, with a fun / quirky decor and warm wood floors in a quiet neighborhood. Tons of books and toys - our daughter especially enjoyed the intricacy of the "Dragonology" and "Wizardology" books, which we'd never seen before. The back patio and play house are constantly inviting through the windowed back doors. Thunderbird coffee house is a short walk away and its easy to get downtown. Gillian was very responsive when we made our inquiry and easy to communicate with in general. Highly recommended!
We spend about 10 days in the house because we were visiting friends in Austin. We lived in that same neighborhood, which is so close to central Austin. The location is close to very nice delis, restaurants and coffee-shops.
The house is gorgeous and has everything one needs for a comfortable and relaxing vacation in Austin -- all kinds of kitchen and dining utensils, very comfortable furniture and a large kitchen, dining, and living area. All rooms are renewed and very nicely decorated. The owner was systematically very helpful and responded promptly to all our needs.
I have stayed at this residence on several occasions and it is delightful. The home has plenty of light, airy open space. Beds and other furnishing are very comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped. This place is truly a home away from home. Enjoy your stay!
Lovely house with top of the line finishing. Close to everything. And Gillian's a great hostess. Looking forward to returning this June.
This 2/1 cottage that we call the Periwinkle Palace is located in one of Austin's favorite north central neighborhoods located one block north of Koenig Avenue between Lamar Street and Burnet Road. It is an easy walk, bike ride, bus trip or car ride to some of Austin's favorite places. A few of those places include Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon (where there is never a cover charge and always a good band), the Original Threadgill's Restaurant (where Janis Joplin got her start), and Central Market (where the kids can play, music can be heard and food can be bought at a good price).
