About the property

Comfortable Mariposa Vacation Home, Between Two Yosemite Gates

This comfortable home offers a great location on a quiet country road and is conveniently situated between two major entrances of the beautiful and majestic Yosemite National Park. The Merced River is only minutes away and leads the way on the 35 mile scenic drive from this home to the Arch Rock Entrance. The alternate route to the park, approximately a 45 mile drive, will take you past the Mariposa Groves where you'll see the Giant Sequoias, the Badger Pass Ski Area, and other attractions. It's an easy day trip to make through one entrance, taking in scenes and points of interest through the park, out the other entrance, and back home with plenty of time to still enjoy a home cooked meal.

There is plenty to see and do in the area, and the quaint historic town of Mariposa serves as a perfect host to the traveling adventurist. There is a wonderful visitors' center that features information that is sure to fulfill all of the curious inquiries of the most adventurous travelers. Mariposa is rich in history and is home to the oldest courthouse still in operation west of the Mississippi. The California State Mining Museum is only a few miles away from this house and boasts some of the most impressive mining treasures ever found in the state of California. Take a short ride to the historic town of Mariposa, where you'll find museums, fine dining, antique shops, and other attractions. Mariposa features a wonderful grocery store that has fresh seafood, sushi, fine wines, fresh produce, and all the fixings to prepare a great meal.

Bring your kayak and go for a whitewater adventure in beautiful Yosemite. Or, take a guided tour with one of the many adventure guides such as Zephyr Whitewater Expeditions. Their launchsite is a scenic drive only 45 minutes up the road along the Merced River Valley Canyon, on Route 140. For more information, call 800-431-3636, and ask about the Merced River whitewater tours.

Yosemite Zipline Adventures is another fun thing to take advantage of, right in our town of Mariposa. They're located about 5 miles away in the other direction on HW 140. For more information, call 209-742-4844.

Rafts are available to rent in the Park during summer months. Bicycles are for rent at a great price. There are many great ways to experience Yosemite, and the town of Mariposa is a great place to start from! This home will serve as a great base for your vacation adventure.

At an elevation of 2600 ft, it's a pleasure to relax on the porch and breathe the fresh mountain air. Sip a glass of wine from one of the local wineries and enjoy a freshly prepared meal from the well-equipped kitchen. Take in the scenes of the wildlife such as deer, wild turkeys, and birds of many varieties.

The bedrooms are situated on opposite ends of the house. The master bedroom has an adjoining full bathroom with a soaking tub to relax those sore muscles in. There also is another full bathroom on the other side of the house to accommodate the second and third bedrooms.

The covered porch overlooks a small valley with peach and other fruit trees adding to the country ambiance. Enjoy breakfast on the porch with the country view and serenity. Grill some fresh seafood or great steaks on the charcoal grill. The local grocery store carries fresh oysters, premium meats, fresh produce, fine wines, and everything you'll need for that gourmet meal.

We hope you'll agree that our location and the amenities that we offer will enable you to experience the beauty of Yosemite, the comforts of home, and the adventure of a lifetime that you and your family will enjoy and remember for a lifetime. About Sherry Nohava

My husband, Tom, and I have been married for 40+ years. We love to entertain and to meet new people. That is why we are drawn to the vacation rental business. This is a dream we have followed for our married lives, and now we are excited to make it happen.

We take great pride in our Mariposa vacation rental properties and do our utmost to keep them in great condition. We're constantly making improvements to them.

Sherry Nohava purchased this house in 2007

Why Sherry Nohava chose Mariposa

Yosemite National Park is one of our favorite places on earth. I love waterfalls and Yosemite offers some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world.

Mariposa is a quaint town with a lot of nostalgia. We love the fresh mountain air, the snow-capped mountains surrounding our valley, the friendly people, the boutiques and antique shops in the town, and the fine dining offered both in Mariposa and at the Park.

We enjoy seeing all kinds of wildlife at our property. When we go there, we feel totally removed from the stress of the city life.

What makes this house unique

The well in this home offers some pristine crystal clean water. We're in a great location on a country road where the wildlife roams free. We frequently see deer, wild turkeys, birds of prey, raccoons, coyotes, and even an occasional bear. The bears generally are shy and timid and are not considered to be a problem.

This home is in a great country location, less than 5 miles from the town of Mariposa, and conveniently located between two Yosemite gates.

Best trip yet!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I went to Yosemite for my 25th birthday and it was amazing! We found this cute home and rented for a great price! We loved where we stayed so much. Everything was close by and the house was so accommodating. The area was so peaceful and don't get me started on the view. The beds were so comfy and the nice open kitchen. What helped make the trip was the karaoke and the games located in hall way and under t.v. I will defiantly be back soon and will highly recommend to everyone..

I’ve stayed at many vacation homes but this home needs some major repairs.

  • 1 of 5

Laundry was left in washer and dryer. No towels left in restrooms. Ants found on counters and dead ants in refrigerator. Broken rocking chair. States that rental sleeps eight but only if you’re extremely short and on a futon. Extremely small living room to hold more than five adults. Over priced for the amount of room in the house. This home needs some extra love to become a true vacation home.

Owner's Response: We understood there was an issue with the cleaning crew when you arrived and promptly issued you a refund for their oversight. We were still picking up the pieces from the recent wildfire. The bathrooms should have been well stocked with towels, shampoo, etc., and for that I apologize. The rocker you're referring to is a recliner that doesn't recline anymore, and that will be replaced. This listing will also be modified to allow a maximum of 6 guests from here on out. Thank you for your input.

Lovely comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

The house was spacious and well equipped with a lovely outdoor eating area and lots of wildlife sounds at night. It wasn't too far from Yosemite and very close to Mariposa but located completely 'in the country'.

Relaxing and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The house is set in a lovely location - quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and this property was perfect for our needs, especially since Sherry is a pet-friendly owner and was happy to allow us to bring our dog to stay. The house is well equipped, clean and feels very homely, and Sherry made sure we felt welcome.

Great time. We enjoyed the house and Mariposa

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four enjoyed staying at the house for two days. The house was well equipped with everything we needed. Our two Basset hounds enjoyed the walks in the country. Very quit at peaceful at night. The town of Mariposa was a lot of fun to explore with lots of old time shops and good eating places. My family would stay here again.
