Forest retreat for couples
Sleepy Wombat Cottage is a fully self-contained forest retreat, yet is only minutes away from the vibrant village of Warburton. The riverside township bustles with cafe's and quirky shops and is host to a delightful range of festivals from comedy, film, harmony, music and many more.
The romantic spa cottage provides all the cosy comforts for a relaxing getaway. Recline on the sofa in front of a crackling wood fire or sit outside on a balmy summer evening listening to the wildlife or feeding the birds.
For the more active minded the cottage is perfectly located close to the Warburton river walk or a few minutes drive to the rainforest galary and Mount Donna Buang itself. Literally at the bottom of the hill is the locally renowned COG cafe where you can hire bikes to explore the Warburton to Lilydale rail trail. Golf and tennis are also within a stones throw.
Please note: Long (700m), fairly steep & windy gravel driveway, safe for all standard vehicles.
Eco-friendly sustainable environment
We aim to maintain the surrounding forest as a haven for wildlife. The property is fully sustainable for water and uses 100% green electricity. We ask that you respect the environment and minimse your footprint.
The property supports permaculture styled local produce growing and there is a small orchard being developed behind the cottage.
The cottage is not suitable for young children as there is an unfenced dam on the property and in wintertime the wood fire is a risk to small fingers. Babies may however be accommodated and a port-a-cot is available on request.
A few home comforts
The cupboards are well stocked with a selection of teas, coffee (& coffee pod machine) and cooking condiments. Milk will be in the fridge for your arrival.
Stay 2 nights or more and provisions for a cooked breakfast (bacon, eggs, beans, juice etc) on the first morning of your stay are complimentary.
Ample firewood is available to top up the basket should you need it for the wood fire or outside brazier during winter stays.
Picnic basket and rug are ready for you to take on your outings.
Deciding on activities is made easy with information on local attractions, maps, menus, bike hire, tours and event calendar available.
Torches are also on hand for night-time possum or koala spotting or to guide you up the track from a night out in the village.
Please note we do ask for a 2-night minimum stay on weekends or public holidays, however you are welcome to enquire for last minute bookings or if the Friday or Sunday is already booked as we can be flexible.

Very relaxing and great place to escape from it all.
Beautiful cottage full of character, very convenient to town but tucked away so you feel like you're away from it all. Great spot.
Lost in wilderness
We had a lovely weekend relaxing and seeing the surrounds. The cottage is great with everything you need, The Fire was beautiful and the outlook into the bush is stunning, If you want to run away and relax for a weekend this is the place.
Thanks to the Hosts, it was awesome.
Beautiful, secluded spot
We had such a lovely time at this gorgeous cottage. Would highly recommend it. An amazing view, wood fire, spa bath and a bed in a loft....what's not to love!
We loved our place at Wombat Cottage! Stunning views and a gorgeous little cottage. Yes the road is rugged getting up there but it is absolutely worth it at the top! Wonderful!!
Glad to Find This Place!
Sleepy Wombat Cottage is perfect for those that seek absolute privacy and romantic seclusion, surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees and native bush, and not a soul in sight except for the owner's house quite a distance away further up the hill. What is also spectacular about this property is the stunning view of the Warburton native forest on the other side of the town. How often do you look at photos of accommodation only to find in reality it is not ideally situated for peace and quiet or at odds with the description provided. We adored the kookaburra song in the morning and occasionally throughout the day, the two kookaburras who visited and showed themselves regularly, colourful crimson rosellas coming in at any time during the day to the bird feeder, the wallaby leaping through the property on our drive down the hill, and the cleanliness of the air in our lungs. The seating outside the front door is relaxing and scenic, perfect for outdoor eating, enjoying a glass of wine, or just afternoon coffee and cake from the bakery in town. Inside the cottage it has everything you need including a modern bathroom and good sized spa bath using untreated natural water, with comfy robes provided. The lounge seating is comfortable (this is often lacking in holiday homes), and plenty of DVDs and CDs if you don't see anything on TV you like. Generous breakfast provisions on our second day with the best free range chook eggs and orange juice I have ever tasted. The loft bedroom upstairs is restful and at first I was a bit hesitant at the slat style bed, but it turned out to be super comfortable and hey no sore back after two nights. One feature we liked too was the screened windows for fresh air (again this isn't always available in holiday homes). The location is a long driveway uphill into the bush on the right hand side of the town as you drive into the main street. Hazel the owner was super helpful, communicative and patient with our queries. There are not many places we would come back to as we like holidaying in new exciting areas, but Sleepy Wombat is on the revisit list.
Very relaxing getaway!
Nice quiet spot, surrounded by beautiful bushland. House has everything you need for a short getaway. Very relaxing night away, thank you.
