Esther and I wanted to make it affordable and after reading our many reviews, you will understand why are guests were surprised by what we offer. This beautiful, recently renovated cabin sits on 1+ acre of wooded land on the side of a hill overlooking the Trackrock Valley. Off in the distance, the tallest point in Georgia (4,784 ft) can be seen - Brasstown Bald Mountain and directly beneath the first and second deck, one can see a winding country road that passes a white-steepled church. You can hear cows calling out to each other and many other peaceful sounds as you drink that first morning cup of coffee on the lower deck or a cup of hot chocolate around the new fire pit. A new Amish glider was placed on the deck off the master bedroom allowing you to sit and enjoy the view.
It's hard to believe that only two hours northeast of the hustling and bustling noise of Atlanta, you can find such a tranquil setting and the opportunity to escape. Town is not that far as the picturesque town of Blairsville is only eight (8) miles away. You will pass over some of the most beautiful country you will ever see as you make your way over the winding road that leads to Blairsville.
Update- we just installed a dishwasher on July 7th, 2015 for our guests, of almost 100 reviews only one had mentioned not having this but....
Surrounding area: There is much to see and/or do. This is a photographer's dream ... so many beautiful pictures to capture! We have seen the Dogwood season begin to open on the mountain, a red-headed woodpecker hammering out a meal, graceful deer leap across our path and the neighbors tell us that we will see our share of black bears.
You are only minutes from Vogel State Park, Brasstown Bald, Helton Creek Falls, and the Appalachian Trail. Hiking trails are close by, horseback riding at the Trackrock Stables, tubing at Pappy's and in Helen, digging for gold in Dahlonega, boating and fishing at Notelly Lake, shopping at the Premium Outlet Mall (woo hoo!), swimming at Vogel State Park, jogging in Meeks Park, and in the Fall... the changing of the leaves and the local festivals.
'Our grandson made this tour for us'
Esther and I have been married over 25 years and we love people as each person is unique. Have you ever sat in the Atlanta airport and watch people as they walk by, observe their manners, and gestures.
We have met the nicest people who have become our guests and many have provided insight into how we can better accommodate future guests which is what this is about. Many are just wanting to 'pay the mortgage', this is not an issue with us as we really desire to please our guests.
Esther or Carl purchased this cabin in 2011
It was a foreclosure and when we walked through the door on Valentines Day 2011 and pulled back the drapes and saw the view, it was 'love at first sight'.
We then started to mold the cabin to our liking as Esther started to pick out the color of paint and obtain furniture from the local shops.
Choestoe Sanctuary is close to all the natural points of interest and provides a peaceful haven to rest and reflect. I am sure tthe reviews highlight this fact. Everything was added as though we were going to live here all the time as many places provide cheap items, we have not. Each time we vacation there, we add sometime new.
What a GREAT cabin! We were here for a week, the cabin was clean, comfortable, and full of amenities. The owners go the extra mile to be sure your stay is as enjoyable as it can be providing maps, brochures, and personal tips. The location is idea for any of the activities in the area: hiking, waterfalls, state parks, shopping, fishing, and driving around viewing the scenery.
Tucked away on the side of the mountain, my husband and I found the quiet time we needed to rest and get away from the noise and activity of our life. It was the highlight of our trip and just perfect. It was neat and nothing was left undone. TV, wifi, books and games were provided. Didn't need the tv because there were so many lovely things to watch and do. Evening and morning walks were time to talk and time to be pensive. The screened in porch for a cup of tea and a swing to sit and watch the cows, clouds and mountain scenery. Brasstown Bald was beautiful and the clear sky gave us a view for miles around. Vogel State Park was a disappointment but the drive there was lovely and we took a few side drives just to enjoy the neighboring hills. Helen,Ga was noisy and not worth the drive. Going Richard Russell Scenic drive was slow and we enjoyed the route back to the cabin on 180. The town will not be on our to do again list as it is just crowded shops with typical made in China stickers. Next trip will include Mark of the Maker Pottery in Clarksville. We read through books, and fixed some meals in the kitchen as everything needed to cook was there. Jim's BarBQ was excellent. People in this area are the best! There are lots of trails for those that are physically able to hike. We hope to return. The cabin was more than we could have expected. The owners took care of our questions with just a phone call and it was done quickly.
This is a marvelous getaway and was just the ticket for our little family. Besides everything being clean, well supplied and uncomplicated (I could hardly believe how easy it was to get things in order for our leavetaking when the time came), it is a beautifully and ever-so-comfortably furnished cabin that has a lovely, wholesome ambiance. Very tasteful decor, but not cluttered or terrifyingly valuable (we have a toddler, and after picking up just a few breakables for storage over the weekend, I was able to breath pretty easy on the "damage-fear" front!)
We half lived out on the deck, drinking in its spectacular view. It's quiet up there -- very, very, deliciously quiet; it quiets the mind.
And what sets this cabin apart from so many other cabins is that it's up high on a wooded hill/mountain, as they so often are........but overlooks lush valley farmland, rimmed behind by the blue ridge of the mountains. This is what did it for me, who's not much one for being stuck in the middle of woods or up high for the sake of being up high. We didn't get to see any black bears, but I thoroughly enjoyed the herd of cows pasturing below us.
Also, the owner is WONDERFUL to work with -- goes above and beyond to make your getaway a success and is a quick & accommodating communicator.
When my son entered the cabin he said, " Dad, this is definitely a step up from where we have stayed before" and we have stayed at some nice cabins. Carl and Ester have made their cabin very comfortable. The location is perfect for trout fishing and the restaurants are close and the food is excellent.
We'll be back.
This was a girls getaway week...the best place ever! When you first walk into this immaculate place, you can't help but be awestruck by the views out the back deck. A walk down to the swing under the trees is so peaceful. This place has everything needed to make your vacation stress free and relaxing. The cabin is truly comfortable and inviting--you won't want to leave! It is central to many locations and activities. I have stayed at several places over the years, and this is the best. We can't wait to return!
Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your home away from home. We really enjoyed the setting and how "cozy" the interior was decorated. Very nice cabin with nice amenities and we plan to come back. The view of the mountains and the serene countryside reminded us every day that we were on vacation.
Great place to stay. Great location, in the woods but close to town. We loved the views. The views from the swing were amazing. We had a very peaceful long weekend... Beds were very comfortable. Very nice cabin. We plan on staying again.
Our cabin is located in the desirable area known as Choestoe Hills overlooking the Trackrock Valley. We are not a cheap cabin, just affordable!
There are approximately ten (10) cabins in this area and only two are available to the public for renting.
Blairsville is 8 miles away with its many thrift stores, consignment and antique shops. For the serious shopper, the Premium Outlet Mall is about an hour away and Atlanta and Asheville, NC are two hours away. Helen, GA is about an hour away with its many Christmas stores for shopping.
Blairsville was recently selected as one of the Applachian Trail towns with the Applachian Trail close by.
Pappy's, just down the road, has water tubing ... you can actually see the tubers go by as you sit and have your meal.
You will fall in love with this area and its people ... Southern hospitality is a reality in Blairsville!
Other Activities: White water rafting, many waterfalls, hiking trails, the beautiful Vogel State Park with its many trails, lake and water falls and the Appalachian Trail are all very close.
Golf: There are two golf courses within 10 miles... Butternut Creek Golf Course is a favorite and you will find a brochure inside the cabin.
Ski: Sky Valley, NC
This is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes away.
Fishing- this would be Southern Highroads Outfitters in Blairsville I had a guest who hired a guide for an awesome 4 hours fly fishing lesson and loved it. They are great people and my guest's wife texted me about all the fish he caught.
