Why is renting our apartment different from most other short-term rentals in NYC?
1. Peace of mind - we can legally rent our apartment as a short-term vacation rental because our house is a 2-family private dwelling. Apartments in buildings that contain 3 or more apartments cannot be legally rented on a short-term basis (30 days or less) in NYC.
2. We live on the property. While the apartment is a separate unit with a private entrance, we live upstairs. If you have any questions, concerns or issues, we can address it right away and most of the time, in person.
3. We provide all of our guests with an information packet with valuable neighborhood and NYC information and can assist with any requests they may have.
4. We love to travel and know what is important to our guests. We professionally clean our apartment between guests and make sure everything possible is provided for our guests comfort.
We hope you will enjoy our city and apartment!

We are both project managers in the financial industry and moved to Harlem over 7 years ago most recently from the Upper East Side. One of us was born and raised in NYC and the other has lived in NYC for the last 20 years and we couldn't imagine living any place else! We love traveling, reading, gardening, running, skiing, tennis, good food & wine and enjoying all NYC has to offer!
Michael & Sandy purchased this apartment in 2008
We have lived here for over 7 years and this is the first neighborhood in NYC that feels like a true community to us. We are happy that the area has changed for the better and pleased that our guest have had positive experiences in their visits!
Quiet, immaculate apartment on a beautiful block of brownstones in a friendly, convenient and newly trendy neighborhood is yours to enjoy like a New Yorker. We love NYC and love to travel as “locals” ourselves which allows us to anticipate the needs of our guests to make their stay as memorable and comfortable as possible. Hablo español!
Very clean and cozy apartment located close to subway and buses. Michael and Sandy are very thoughtful and attentive, apartment has absolutely everything including a very nice welcome basket. Thank you!
This is a lovely garden flat in a brown stone in the heart of Harlem. The owners Sandy and Michael live upstairs and are gracious hosts.
The neighbourhood is vibrant with great restaurants a short walk from your door (forget about the images of Harlem in the 1970s). The subway is two blocks away and is, I think, the best way to get around. Central Park is a short walk and the Studio Museum Harlem and the Apollo are right around the corner.
I highly recommend this rental.
This clean and well kept apartment was the right size for our family of 4. Very close to the metro and many nearby shops and restaurants. Michael and Sandy let us know they were nearby if we needed anything. If we find ourselves back in New York, we definitely hope to stay here again.
My husband and I spent 2 weeks at Michael's and Sandy's apartment. It's a great location in a fun and dynamic neighborhood with easy access (2/3 express) downtown. The apartment was as advertised, a small "garden" apartment, comfortably furnished and a good bed. (We are in our late 60s, so we notice such things.) Michael was attentive to our small requests for extra towels and kitchen items. Like many visitors, we were on the go a great deal of the time, so especially appreciated the 2/3 express (a 2 minute walk from the apartment) which gave us easy access to uptown museums, midtown theaters, downtown neighborhoods, and Brooklyn. The Metro North also makes a stop at 125th, a 5-minute walk from the apartment, making it easy to take a day trip up the Hudson. A note about the food scene: we are from the San Francisco Bay area, so have lots of great access to good food. That said, we crave NYC bagels and smoked fish, so we discovered it was easy to make a stop at Zabar's on the local 1 and transfer to the 2/3 at 96th. Just 10-15 minutes door to door. We also loved the food options (including take-out) in Harlem: Red Rooster and Blvd Bistro as well as countless small west African restaurants to explore. Great music scene in Harlem: wish we were younger. A community garden is in the making right across the street.
My Husband and I just returned from a 4 day stay at Michael and Sandy's apartment. It was absolutely wonderful! We wished that we had booked the apartment for longer than 4 days. The apartment is as pictured: very clean and neat. We appreciated the wine and fruit that they had upon our arrival. we felt really safe in the neighborhood at all times and was pleased that there was plenty of restaurants, deli's and CVS pharmacy right around the corner. The subway is a short 2 blocks away from the apartment and we was able to get to Times Square, Statue of Liberty, as well as Brooklyn by subway. People were really friendly while riding the subway, several times people stopped and told us which train to take ( I guess we looked confused!) and a few times when it was standing room only I was offered a seat by someone that was sitting. After a long day of sight seeing it was good to get back "home" that's what we called Michael and Sandy's apartment. It was definitely Home Away from home! We really appreciate Michael and Sandy's hospitality and look forward to booking their apartment again!
Myself & two friends rated at Michael & Sandy's for ten days. It felt like a home away from home for us. The apartment had everything we needed, clean & it was just as it is described. We loved Harlem, the real New York! And enjoyed some of the great restaurants close by. Also we felt safe in the area and at ease. The subway is close by & a quick trip to Times Square. Michael & Sandy are flexible & accommodating which we really appreciated since we had travelled a long way. We would definitely stay again!
2/3 subway 2 short blocks away take you to Central Park in 3 minutes & Times Square in 12 minutes! The M1 bus stops on the corner and takes you down beautiful 5th Avenue/Museum mile and along the east side of Central Park. The M60 bus on 125 St. will take you directly to/from La Guardia Airport in 25-30 minutes or Columbia University in 15 minutes. Yankee Stadium & the nearby Gateway Shopping Center are only 20 minutes away. Subway lines 4,5,6,A (to/from JFK), B,C,D & Metro North railroad (10 min to NY Botanical Gardens/Bronx Zoo!) are also nearby.
Nearby Harlem Local Attractions: Jazz Clubs, Sunday Gospel Masses (e.g. Abyssinian Baptist Church), Historical Landmarks (Apollo Theatre, Mount Morris Park Landmark District, Striver's Row, Astor Row, Hotel Theresa, Langston Hughes House), Marcus Garvey Park (playground, basketball courts, recreation/fitness center & swimming pool).
