An adjacent farm usually has an awe-inspiring Sunflower crop that draws hundreds of photographers every year, and a Corn Maze that opens late summer/early too. When I was growing up, our family went camping and canoeing a lot. We would take 7-10 day trips, paddling and portaging (carrying your canoes, food and gear along connecting trails) from one lake to the next in the Boundary Waters/Quetico Superior lakes of Canada. The Pachaug State Forest and surrounding area reminds me of those great experiences. An incredible place to explore and discover beautiful sights and natural wonders! And, when you want to taste fine wine from a local vineyard, stroll through a popular historic New England town, or roll the dice at the area casinos, it's all just a few minutes away! For us, a perfect combination. We hope you will find it that way, too.
The TreeHouse is a truly unique 2-story house that has what many people call the 'wow factor'. The first floor is roomy and comfortable, with lots of light streaming in throughout the day - facing East toward the lake, as well as South and West. The large cantilevered deck gets plenty of sun, but also offers areas of shade, if you want lower UV rays. The second floor has a magnificent, very high cathedral ceiling with exposed beams, a private deck, home office area and extra large IKEA mirrored wardrobe. How many rental homes have a 24 foot by 24 foot bedroom suite with luxurious KING size bed with memory foam mattress and hypoalergenic pillows? How about a programmable massage chair with multiple pressure point settings, including optional heat? An in-house, new, energy efficient front loading washer and dryer? A hotel-style hair dryer mounted on the bathroom wall? The furniture, kitchen appliances, bathroom, washer and dryer, bed, and linens are all new, not a mixed assortment of old stuff. We have tried to think of amenities that will make your stay above and (2) terry cloth robes! The location is really great, too. The lake entrance is a short walk from the house and if you like hiking...Pachaug State Trails (maps available) start at the north end of the lake and go for miles.
Feel free to email me with any other questions or requests for information!
All the best,
We both want to thank you for providing such a wonderful place for us to enjoy our little vacation. There is nothing more that we could have asked for.
We look forward to staying at The Tree House again!!
We spent a long weekend here. The house is in a nice secluded spot with Billings Lake nearby with plenty of hiking trails. There is excellent proximity to the casinos, the shoreline including RI beaches, the seaside towns of Stonington and Mystic. The countryside is beautiful and picturesque as well. There are so many options. But the house is fabulous. Walk in, and it's like being home. Spacious, well appointed, with a nice deck to relax and enjoy.
I want to thank Martha and Drew so much for a beautiful, long weekend at the Treehouse! It was everything I hoped it was going to be and more! The lake was stunning! I've never used Home Away before and it an awesome experience! The house was perfectly decorated with fun things to look at. It was CLEAN, warm and inviting. It felt like I was staying at a family members house. I can't wait to go again! Thank you Martha and Drew for opening up your home to us! Ashley & Michael
My wife and I recently got back from a lovely stay at the Designers Treehouse. The house is beautifully decorated and setup, everything was clean and is good working order. The kitchen looks brand new, all good name brand appliances which we took advantage of one night for making late night snacks. I've stayed at a few rental homes over the years and this place was the most well stocked house we've stayed in! From all of the spices and treats in the fridge we really didn't need to bring anything. I loved the bedroom upstairs, it is huge and had inviting views from the windows. Morning coffee was on the deck outside overlooking the lake and all of the birds / wildlife made it soo peaceful. The house is located right on a lake in a very quiet, pretty neighborhood. Its close enough to Mystic and casinos but just far enough to avoid all of the traffic and chaos of the cities. Martha and Drew were wonderful to work with, they answered all of my questions very quickly, provide great directions and recommendations in the area (go to Buttonwood farms!) and made our stay a pleasure! Working with people like them make me feel good about staying in a rental house vs. giving my money to big chain hotels, do yourself a favor and give them a try. My only complaint was that we had to go home! My wife is already looking at our schedule for this fall to come up with our next "excuse" to take a break and go stay at the Treehouse! Thanks again for a wonderful time!
Absolutely loved loved loved it here - perfect location for us - the trees helped to keep everything cool - we didn't even turn on the air conditioner - we just opened windows and turned on fans that were provided. Everything was clean and well organized - we had so much fun - we didn't want to leave - HomeOwners were WONDERFUL to work with - and very informative of the area - if you stay here be sure to go to Buttonwood farms for icecream :)
The only thing I would say that should be called out is that the only bathroom is on the first floor and the only access to the second floor is by way of the spiral staircase - was a little "fun" to get our luggage up the steps - this would not stop us from going back again - Just feel it needs to be called out for "older" couples it could be a problem.
I can't say enough about our stay it was so wonderful - thank you so much for a peaceful stay - we loved the lake so much and Joe enjoyed the massage chair every day :) - thank you again - Lorie and Joe
We loved staying at the Treehouse!
It is s lovely, well cared for home with a fully stocked pantry and all the needed essentials and amenities to make your stay enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed swimming and boating on the beautiful Billings Lake located just a short walk from the house. Dining on the deck, shaded by the tree canopy was also a very relaxing, pleasurable experience. We enjoyed staying there so much that we ended up extending our stay for an additional two days! Highly recommend!

The TreeHouse was perfect for us! Private, quiet, well-kept, and very thoroughly equipped for guests, with many thoughtful details, from pancake mix and games to bathrobes and lake towels.
Martha responded promptly to emails, was very accommodating about our travel schedule, and gave lots of useful advice about things to do and see nearby.
Gorgeous, relaxing lake with boat ramp. Billings Lake is part of Pachaug State Forest. Swimming is allowed with use of floatation (paddle board, inflatable tube, raft, etc.). Area offers lots of recreational activities and beautiful scenery. Very nice, easy hiking trails through State Park land within a few hundred yards of the house. Located about 10 minutes drive to Foxwoods Casino. Mystic Village attractions , CT and Rhode island beaches approx. 10-15 miles. Summer and Fall festivals abound in neighboring communities. Please note: Because of FIRE hazard, we do NOT allow barbeque grills, or fires of any kind on the property.
