About Kai Hinz

We have been coming to the Big Island since 1988 and we absolutely love this Island.

Why Kai Hinz chose Kailua-Kona

We love the view and being on the water and watching the dolphins and whales and sunsets. The building and all its amenities are immaculately maintained and since it is a concrete construction, it is very quiet.

Location, location, location! This is perfect! Amazing views of dolphins and sunsets!

  • 5 of 5

Arrived in the afternoon with 3 adults and kids age 16, 12, 10 and 7. The 3rd floor unit was just like the photos. Kona Makai was our fabulous home for 9 days. First things first, kids chose their beds in the loft. The adults chose the bedrooms. No need for air conditioning with all the fans and ocean breezes! The only reason a tv was turned on at an point during our trip was to watch the Olympics- when we were home we all hung out on the wraparound lanai. The view was simply breathtaking! In the mornings we had coffee watching the spinner dolphins flipping out of the water. At night, we watched the sunset from the lanai or from the oceanfront lounge chairs. The property surrounding the pool and parking lot is very well maintained with some gorgeous brilliant foliage. The swaying palms are a reminder of paradise- also kept groomed. Having spent time in Kona previously, this location is perfect. Nice walks in either direction bring you to beaches and surfing or into town. We packed lunches for our day trips all over the island and the stores like Safeway, are close driving distance. We spent a couple days just hanging out by the pool and relaxing and there were more than enough lounge chairs available in the pool area. The pool and hot tub temperatures were just right. Hot hot tub, not too cold pool! The condo had all the necessary kitchen items for cooking dinner every night. The washer and dryer work great and there were more than enough towels for our family. The photos on vrbo are right on. The owner is so nice. Green sand and south point are a must see. Waipio valley and the brewing company in Waimea are also must do's. Adventurous and relaxing trip with a very comfortable condo in a perfect location!

Great Location and View

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four spent four nights at this property. The location is wonderful and the views from the balcony are spectacular. Breakfast on the balcony and the sunset each night is amazing. This is a third floor corner unit which is great for watching the sunset and for low noise. The unit itself is pretty dated. The bathrooms are older, the towels and other linens are very basic and if you plan on doing a lot of cooking, the cookware is limited and very old. We saw heat coming out the sides of the oven when we used it and there were ants in the kitchen and bathrooms. However, the complex has a fabulous outdoor grilling area which is wonderful! The accommodations alone would be a three star but I gave it four because of the great location.

Nice place in a good location

  • 4 of 5

The condo was just fine for our family during Ironman week. The location was perfect for us too! The beds were comfortable and there was enough space for everyone to be in the condo. The absolute best part of the condo was the wrap around lanai! I spent every morning and evening out there soaking up the view and the peace and quiet. The grills down by the pool area were super to have and use as well. Only real drawback was the air conditioning. There were units in the two main bedrooms however the main living room and the loft upstairs were really very warm throughout the day. Otherwise it was a great place to stay.

Loved it!

  • 4 of 5

Overall I loved this condo and would definitely stay again. Beautiful view, great location close but not too close to the centre of Kona. Pool and grounds were well maintained. Quick replies for any communication with owner. It could use a few interior updates.

Really nice view of the ocean and comfortable space for 6 people

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the space. It was nice to have two bathrooms and room for 6 to sleep. Kitchen was very handy and the grills were nice. Enjoyed dinner down on the patio just feet away from the rising tide at sunset. It was wonderful. Access was easy and parking was available whenever we needed it. Others staying there were very friendly and enjoyable to be around. Area was quite and relaxing. Pool and hot tub were clean and comfortable.
