Danny grew up in Oahu and had a family cabin right on Pipeline, so of course he grew up surfing. As a young adult, his work brought him to the Big Island where he manages a private water system. I moved to the Big Island in 2002 from Olympia, WA. I flew for the airlines for many years and was fortunate enough to discover that Hawaii is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places in the world. My love for flying brought me to work at Mokulele Flight Service, where I originally met Danny. He was taking flying lessons. For two years he thought that I had a partner until he saw me on an online dating site. He contacted me and we’ve been together ever since and are now engaged. We bought a 206 Cessna and have enjoyed flying to the other islands. We enjoy fishing and boating to the other islands when the channel cooperates. We have recently taken up golf and have enjoyed the golf courses on the Big Island and Kauai. Between us we have six children and I have three beautiful grandchildren. We also have a border collie terrier mix and a red healer, both pound puppies.
The Owner purchased this hotel in 2010
This beautiful resort is centrally located on the Northeast side of the island, 10 minutes from the airport in Lihue. Wailua and Kapaa are 10 minutes North of us. Here you can enjoy river paddling tours, snorkel tours, waterfalls, dining, shopping, hiking, golfing and many more activities. On the North side of the island is Hanalei Bay, where they filmed The South Pacific. Here we enjoyed paddling the river, which flows into the ocean, taking in all of the wild life along the way. This is also where we discovered the Kalypso Island Bar & Grill. The lounge at Princeville Hotel is a breathtaking stop to enjoy a beverage overlooking all of Hanalei Bay. Just 10 minutes south of our place is Kalapaki Joe's Sport’s Bar & Grill and Gingbua Tai restaurant at the Harbor Mall. One of our regular stops for lunch is Keoki's Paradise Grill, in the Poipu Shopping Center. It offers a nice open air experience. I also recommend going early in the morning to Waimea Canyon before the clouds roll in and view the island of Ni’ihau. On our last trip we toured the Koloa Rum Store located at the historic Kilohana Plantation, one mile South of Lihue, between 22 North Restaurant and the Kaua’i Plantation Railway. They have samples of their rum made on Kauai. It was a fun experience. If you are a golfer, Wailua Municipal Golf Course is next door (reasonable, but always packed). The Kauai Lagoon Golf Course at the Marriott is 5 minutes away and is one of our favorites. The Puakea Golf Course is 10 minutes away, another favorite. The Kiahuna Golf Course is 20 minutes away in Poipu as well as the Poipu Golf Course (which is very nice, but more expensive). The Princeville Makai and Prince Course at Princeville, are two of the most spectacular golf courses in all of the world and just 40 minutes north and there are more. There are over 40 white sand beaches to explore on this garden isle. We highly recommend the Holo Holo Catamaran trip to Niiha
We were extremely pleased from the moment we saw the view from our room on the top floor. We overlook all of the pools, waterfalls, ocean and mountains. They are great rooms for people watching too. Danny appreciated the fact that our room is just an elevator ride around the corner from the lobby and the icemaker is just down the hall. There is also a lounge, on our floor only, with a microwave. We really enjoy being pampered with the beauty of the resort and the great service. If we just want a retreat, they will pick us up at the airport and even shuttle us to a shopping center and a couple of golf courses. The restaurant is outstanding with great food, large portions and good prices. Danny enjoyed a prime rib cooked just the way he likes it. A couple of days later, he had barbecue beef ribs and there was so much. He said he felt like Fred Flintstone. We took the leftovers back to our room and heated them up the next night in the microwave and had an intimate dinner on our private lanai. I enjoy waking up to see a beautiful sunrise right over the ocean. I enjoy lounging by the pool and enjoying the food and beverage service or watching sports around the tiki bar. Danny said that the surf is great for beginners or those getting back into it. I hope to try soon. We have enjoyed long walks on the beach, which is the longest one on the island. The lounge is a great alternative for lighter fares and live entertainment. I found the business center very handy for taking care of faxing, scanning and copying. The convention centers there are great for seminars or company parties. We enjoy the convenience store in the morning for a specialty coffee and a bagel. We also have another beautiful view room, if this one is booked for the time you want.
This is one of our favorite places to come for relaxation and value. The service and food are excellent
The location of the property and the grounds are amazing! The beds are small and can only fit 1 adult each and the room was a small standard hotel room, but we enjoyed it so much because of the hotels amenities. Beware of a $25 per day parking fee and a $15 per request for towels and toilet paper. Lol....the maid snatched back a roll of toilet paper after she handed it to me because I hadn't officially requested a refill and paid for it! But overall it was quite wonderful and you get to make fresh flower leis. The food is also very good. It was a bit pricey, but the whole island is pricey except for Bubbas Burgers!
The property is essentially a hotel (it is the old Hilton in fact) but each unit is owned so you can save by booking with owners instead of the main resort website. No problem catching a free shuttle to and from the airport so I did not have to rent a car for our full stay. I used the Discount Hawaii Car rental app for this stay and my last stay on the big island and would highly recommend it.
Just call the resort reception when you get your luggage and they pick you up - the place is only a 5 minute drive from the airport. The kids loved the pools and the beach is very nice but I would not snorkel here due to waves. There is good snorkelling up the road at Lydgate Park, which also has this massive play structure. We also enjoyed Anini Beach for snorkelling as it has sea turtles. I thought the food on the resort is pricey for what you get but that is every hotel. The only downside is lack of kitchen. We found Olympic Cafe in Kapaa to be very good. I would stay here again or maybe at the Villas which have kitchens.
We had a very nice stay. The view from the room is lovely, and the pool area is fantastic. There is a lot of construction going on in the hotel right now, so that was a little bumpy (no access to the bar, one elevator not working, etc.), but I suspect it's going to be terrific when the upgrades are done.
Beautiful place to stay. Nice views, entertainment, and good food....the room was awesome!
My husband's and my stay at the Kauai Beach Resort was amazing! Donna was great to work with and answered all our questions beforehand. The front desk staff even talked about how great she is to work with and how nice her rooms are which I think is worth a lot. The view of the ocean and resort grounds from the room was incredible. We loved sitting out on the lanai watching and listening to the ocean waves crashing in. The room and the resort were perfect, and there is a long beachfront to enjoy walking along. The waves were too large to think about swimming during our stay, but Lyngate park is very close and has a protected barrier for swimming and snorkeling. We saw lots of fish there! The pools, waterfalls and rock landscaping at the resort were gorgeous and in my opinion one of the best I saw on the island! The location on the east side was great for getting to both sides of the island easily. We found all of the staff at the resort so wonderful and friendly. We loved this resort and room and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay on Kauai.
Rental was as described, clean and ready on time. Beds were comfortable. View from the balcony to the pool and ocean was as advertised and beautiful. Very convenient checking in and checking out. The resort was well maintained and provided a comfortable venue to lounge on the beach or by the pool. The bar in the resort had daily happy hour specials that were good and reasonably priced between $5 to $7. The food at the restaurant was good but a bit pricey.
Recommend this rental to others. Very easy and courteous renter.
