Marathon House Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 3 baths, sleeps 10

TRULY ONE OF A KIND, FABULOUS WATERFRONT PROPERTY - 4 BR/3BA - 3 BR/2BA home plus an attached 1 bedroom/1bath cottage. Includes your own wonderfully secluded private salt water tidal lagoon with fish, lobster, and all sorts of plants, and aquatic life !

New swimming pool with infinity edge and poolside Tiki hut just added December 2014. Heating and Chilling available.

Come relax in this very private and peaceful amazing water front property on the Gulf, with fantastic views of the water from the living room, dining room, kitchen, and screened porch. Boat dock for boats to 40 feet. Parking for your trailer and extra vehicles on adjacent lot. Four Kayaks for your enjoyment. PLR2011-00266.

The House: The main house includes 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Two master bedrooms provide a much needed respite from the busy life that you have come to the Keys to escape from. The private master bedroom and bath are located on one side of the living room, and the remaining 2 bedrooms and bathroom are accessed from the opposite side of the living room. The second spacious master bedroom and bath is attached to the main house, separated by a car port for additional privacy. The kitchen is open and comfortable to cook in with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, stainless steel range, dishwasher, and a large picture window with pass through to the large, enclosed patio. This gulf front home comes with all the amenities you would need or want, including a generous flat screen HD television in the living room, an outdoor gas grill, cable television and high speed wireless internet.

The Property: Easing out to the backyard through the expansive French doors, you will find a very coveted, one of a kind private 13 to 15 foot deep saltwater tidal lagoon, where you can snorkel and swim in the privacy of your own backyard. Please do not intimidate or catch the fish and lobster, they are our pets. Or you can relax on the generous screened porch, as you watch the kaleidoscope of colors dancing in the magnificent sunsets. The 50 foot dock will accommodate most boats, or jump off the end of the dock for a swim or snorkel in the gulf. 4 Kayaks are available for your enjoyment. Paddle on out to the deserted island for an adventure. An additional lot separates the house from the other houses on the street and can be used for parking your boat trailer, or extra vehicles. An abundance of landscape lighting around the backyard provides an amazing ambiance at night for a private swim in the lagoon.

The lagoon: There is no other body of water like this in the Keys. If you are familar with the TV show 'Flipper', you might be amused to learn that the dolphin Flipper once swam in our lagoon. The lagoon is a healthy aquatic habitat, which is healthy for your skin; unlike a chlorinated body of water such as a swimming pool. Chlorine is toxic to plants and fish, and also to humans. Because the lagoon is not treated with any chemicals (which would harm the fish and plant life) and is connected to the gulf via an aqueduct, the visibility and conditions in the lagoon are dependent on the conditions in the gulf. As the gulf water warms, the warm water provides more nutrients for plant life and plants become more abundant. Since lobsters eat plants and algae, expect to see more lobster off the dock by the jetty to the south, when the water warms. Be sure to get your lobster license though, if you wish to savor the taste of these delicate creatures. Fines are steep for poaching. Please do NOT catch the lobsters in the lagoon, as they are our pets, and help control the plant life. With a small aqueduct connecting the lagoon to the gulf, the water level will rise and lower about 2 feet with the changing tide, when the ocean ebbs and flows. Come with your mask and snorkel and adventurous attitude as you explore the marvels of the lagoon and the gulf. If you are squeamish about walking in the gulf or lagoon, remember to bring your water shoes ! If you desire a pristine, sandy beach, rather than an aquatic habitat, the renowned Sombrero beach is about one mile from the property. Of course, there will be no privacy, and you will have to compete with all the other tourists that have no access to water from their property. The water depth in the gulf by the dock varies from about 4 feet to 6 feet. If you venture out to the bay, the water level may be as shallow as 3 foot or as deep as 10 feet. Life jackets are provided.

We hope you enjoy your stay. And please, call us immediately when you arrive, if everything is not to your satisfaction.

Dining in and out was spectacular... the Kitchen is nicely stocked, and the Grill worked great

our favorite was breakfast on the porch......and the Palapa

Dinner out on the town was excellent... left some brochures for others

WOW is all I can say! Our family and friends visit the Keys each year for lobster season and this home was head and shoulders above anything else we have rented in the 10+ years we have vacationed in Marathon. The home is nicely appointed and the detached master suite has its own mini fridge and microwave. Each day we saw multiple fish, lobster and even a small barracuda in the lagoon. The kayaks were a nice bonus and the kids really enjoyed making laps from the safety of the lagoon with them. The one thing that really impressed us was the level of service that Mark provides to his renters. If a problem arises, rest assured that it will be diligently handled and taken care of unlike some of the "management" companies that handle most of the homes in the area. I would HIGHLY recommend this home and owner!

A slice of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Our family, ranging in ages from 3 to 70, stayed at this beautiful property for the third year in a row. After arriving home, our first task is to schedule the fourth year. The house and property are beautiful. While we love exploring Marathon, beaches and the surrounding Keys, we thoroughly enjoyed several days at "home" in the beautiful pool, lagoon, screened patio, and kayaking off the dock. The owner has always been very quick to respond to any queries. I can't imagine finding a more beautiful property in the Keys. Highly recommended!

Look No Further

When you open the front door, you will instantly know you made the right choice as you look through the sliding glass doors out at the ocean. We stayed in this house for the first time over the Christmas/New Years holidays in 2013 before the fresh water pool was put in. We absolutely loved it and we returned a few weeks ago for another two weeks. It felt like we never left! It's so hard to find a vacation rental right on the water in Marathon (or many of the Keys for that matter). The house is exactly as advertised - clean, bug-free, AC, lots of space, and a gas grill. We brought our son on both trips. He was 7 months old the first time and 2 this time - it was easy having him with us as the house is so acommodating for adults and kids. We were in the pool and on the kayaks out in the ocean every sunny day.

The location of the house is perfect. You are right by shopping, grocery stores, Sombrero Beach, and many great restaurants. It's a short drive to Seven Mile Bridge, about 40 minutes to Key West, and half hour to Islomorada. We truly felt at home both times we were here and we plan to come back every couple years.

Mark is great to work with with and he's very responsive. I can't say enough good things about this house. You will not be dissapointed.

Wonderful vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the property from November 7-14th. The house and grounds were exactly as advertised. Very comfortable home, nicely decorated. Mark was very easy to contact and promptly answered emails. We loved kayaking out to the nearby island and around the area shoreline. We saw a 4 foot long tarpon cruising by the dock several times. There were fish and lobsters in the lagoon that our young nephew loved to watch. We had a wonderful time on our vacation and the beautiful setting of this home was a big part of our great time. I'd fully recommend this house to others.

Great home & best vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this home from 8/8/15 to 8/15/15. We had a full house and it was comfortable for everyone. The home is perfect for groups that have adults, children, and grandparents. The grandparents are able to escape to their personal cottage. The kids enjoyed learning to kayak in the lagoon and the pool was a perfect size for all of us to hang out. We also brought 2 boats and went fishing everyday. The dock was perfect to allow us to come and go on the water for snorkeling trips, fishing, and sunset cruises. The property was clean, kitchen was stocked with necessary items, and beds were comfortable. Beach towels, snorkeling gear, and spices in the kitchen appear to be left behind by prior guests so that was very helpful. My 15 year old son ,who is typically glued inside to video games, had the time of his life on this trip as we got to see a different side to him with fishing on the dock and kayaking in the Gulf. I would absolutely recommend this property to friends and family and hope to return in the future. Lastly, the owner was easy to work with and had quick turnaround to emails.

A Fantastic Family Week in the Keys!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family spends one week in the Keys every year - we've stayed at many different houses and this house was great!!! From the first moment that we looked through the front window to see the view to the last morning when we waved good-bye to that view - we had a fantastic time. While each person probably has their favorite -the pool definately lands at the top of many our lists -- it was perfect -- loved the infinity edge and we all spent quite some time gazing into the Gulf.

As many people on the site have said, we rented a paddle board from the shop up the street and between that and the kayaks that are provided - we enjoyed exploring the little nooks and crannies around the area - we spotted some lobster, fish and a nurse shark - very fun!!!

The house itself was perfect for our group - loved the kitchen and the table on the porch - we enjoyed quite a few meals out that at the end of the day. The house itself is really roomy - which is nice when you have older children and adults - no one felt too crowded - which we experienced in other homes we have rented.

All in all - great week - owners are super to work with - great communication before the trip and deposit was returned timely. Thanks for a wonderful time - we will be back!!!
