Excellent location and lots of things to do

Culburra Beach is just 2.5 to 3 hours from Sydney on the South Coast and 3 hours from Canberra. An easy drive for a getaway weekend or a longer holiday.

Gerohn House is located opposite tranquil bay waters, close to the ocean surf at Culburra Beach, and a short drive to the quieter surf at Tilbury Cove. And there is Lake Wollumboola...a renowned coastal lagoon, bird sanctuary and destination for swimming, canoeing and fishing. Activities to enjoy nearby abound - surfing, swimming, beach or bush walking, fishing, boating on the river. If you are bringing a boat and trailer Orient Point and Crookhaven Heads boat launch ramps are just a few minutes away.

Culburra Beach village has the essentials - supermarket, cafes, newsagent, service station, clubs. It's a 20 minute drive to the main centre of Nowra which is a regional hub for shopping, restaurants and cafes, hospital/health services.

If you'd like to explore the beautiful Shoalhaven area you can choose from town, country, beaches and bush. Nowra is the closest main town with all facilities and historic Berry has boutiques, cafes and specialist stores. For countryside exploring try a day in the Kangaroo Valley, along the Shoalhaven River, or in spectacular bush areas along the Nerriga Road or in the local national parks. Bushwalking in Jervis Bay national parks is very popular and its beaches are great for swimming, snorkelling and boating.

Gerohn House is a great home base for chilling out and relaxing or being active and energetic... it's simply up to you!

Lovely views and well equipped

  • 3 of 5

The house has lovely views of the water and the kitchen in very well equipped. Unfortunately the shower screen in the spare bathroom was broken and we found broken glass on the bathroom floor. In addition the BBQ plate was very dirty. The house definitely needs some maintenance.

Comfortable, clean and great location

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean and well furnished, we only used the front half. The beautiful big windows let the light and view in. The garden brings a million native birds which was so nice. A quick walk to the beach. G was exceptionally helpful and professional for our last minute visit.

It would be nice to have better pillows and a flatscreen on the kitchen door for the breeze, although aircon was excellent. Thanks.

Adequite Accomodation

  • 2 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed at Gerohn for a week, as the accommodation we originally wanted had been booked for that period of time. On first arriving we immediately felt a lack of privacy as the house is situated on the bend of Whistler and the Mall with no fences and all the houses opposite looking directly at the house.

The house is neat enough inside with pretty much everything you need for a holiday stay, bed linen, towels etc are supplied, but bring your own face cloths which were noticeably missing. The house has floor boards throughout which is appealing, however the single beds in the second room are on casters which, when you sleep in and turn so does the whole bed travel across the floor in unison. So I had to place my running shoes under the casters to remediate the problem.

Another noticeable minus for Gerohn was the complete absence of fly/insect screens which, during the hotter months becomes open house for these unwanted critters. There is an electronic insect zapper outside the second bedroom, but you have to turn this off before you retire for the night as the light from this makes it impossible to sleep. There are ceiling fans which I opted to use nightly with the windows closed.

And finally, there is a huge problem with cockroaches is the house, daily I would terminate at least 4 of these pests, some of which leaving their calling cards on my pillow case, which I threw away during our stay.

The owners were prompt and very pleasant to deal with, we had no issues at all in that regard, but in all they really need to look at some of the issues I've raised here to warrant me giving Gerohn any more than two stars. Needless to say we enjoyed our stay in this beautiful part of the world, Culburra.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback. I think it is well shown in the photographs that the property is not fenced and we have no intentions of fencing as it takes advantage of our gardens, lawns and the view across Curlers Bay. We have never been asked for face towels before, something we may have to consider if we are asked again by other guests. Our parents and guests stay in the second bedroom and we haven't had complaints about runaway beds moving, it is much easier for the house cleaners when they are making beds to be able to move them. There is no fly screen a on the windows as we feel it would detract from the views. We haven't seemed to have had the insect problem that bad before. I would note that all rooms have adjustable ceiling fans and the house does have air conditioning. The house is fumigated at least twice a year. We go to the house on a regular basis and have not had a cocktail problem. We have had no complaints from other guests and the cleaners were quite surprised when I mention this complaint to them. I am sure the other feedback we have is testimony to our house, we really enjoy our place and want our guest to enjoy it as much as we do. Sorry Gerohn did not live up to your expectation.

Had a great weekend at Gerohn House. Great location, walking distance to shops and beach. All amenities you need at the house (including big screen TV which came in handy for the NRL finals). Gerladine was very responsive and friendly when making the booking. Look forward to our next stay. Craig.
