WATCH THE VIDEO about "Swanlake Cottage - holiday house" on youtube

Just 3 hrs from Sydney or Canberra, Swanlake Cottage is positioned on a big bush block, right across from the crystal clear waters and sandy beaches of Swan Lake. The quiet village of Swanhaven lies about 3 km from Sussex Inlet and is surrounded by Nat. Parks.

The timber-clad rustic cottage has a large private garden, frequented by a multitude of birds and other animals. Three bedrooms sleep up to 8 people. It has flyscreens on all windows and doors and stays cool without carbon emissions under the tree cover. There is no air conditioning.

The house features polished timber floors and original paintings, is furnished with retro timber furniture and has a warm, lived-in feel.

It has a fully-equipped kitchen, integrated into a dining area with a dishwasher, gourmet gas stove, oven, microwave, fridge (second fridge in laundry), toaster, kettle, bread maker and all the kitchen equipment you might need, including a store of basic cooking ingredients, such as spices, tea, coffee, oil and vinegar etc. in case you forgot to bring some crucial item.

On colder days, a slow combustion fireplace in the main living area heats the whole house (wood is provided). There is also a gas heater in the lounge.

There is a piano, a flat screen digital TV, DVD and CD player with USB input, 2 radios, games, a few toys and a filled bookshelf.

There is a telephone in the house for emergencies or if you want someone to ring you there.

The uniquely styled bathroom has a full-sized bathtub and plenty of hot water. The laundry has a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.

You can choose to either clean the house yourself before you leave or let us do it for you for an additional charge of $75.

Relax Body and Soul

One of the main features of the property is the big secluded garden, with a little pond, old gum trees, tree ferns, orchids and lilies. There are many places already set up for you to sit down and relax and further spots for your sun chair to move around. Forget about time on the all weather undercover front veranda, which looks out towards the lake, or seek total privacy on the partly covered back veranda. Here you can also have a wood-fired BBQ and eat at the table setting on the deck. The fully fenced back garden also features a campfire place. The use of our Hobie canoe (2 1/2 people) for trips on the lake and one or two bicycles are included in the deal.

Quality Environment

The holiday village of Swanhaven is a sleepy bush settlement straight out of the 1960's. It is a paradise for nature lovers.

At Swanlake Cottage you can watch the sun set over the lake from the cosy front veranda, take the kids for a safe swim on the sandy beaches of the pristine lake, paddle a canoe across its shallow waters, go to the playground on the way or take off for a surf on one of the nearby untouched beaches. There are fishing spots on the lake, ocean and nearby creeks and rivers. The more active can also discover plenty of bush-walks in the surrounding National Parks and Nature Reserves.

If you are bringing your motor boat please stick to the designated boat ramps and speed limits. There are black swans and a great number of other birds breeding in the shallow parts of the lake.

A 15 minute walk along the lake or a short trip in the car brings you to the untouched beaches of Wreck Bay, where dolphins and whales pass by while you relax under your umbrella or on your surf- or body-board. There is a Surf Life Saving Club in Sussex Inlet with a surf reef at the tip of the head and a calm swimming spot at Berrara Beach.

Sussex Inlet has a few cafes and restaurants, a supermarket, bottle shop, bank, pub, boat rentals, RSL club and even an old fashioned cinema. There is a market every second weekend. The caravan park on the main road to Sussex has a takeaway, a small shop and a laundry. There is a new bus route to Sussex Inlet and Nowra and one taxi operator in town.

Swanhaven is surrounded by National Parks. Plenty of outings to either the coastal National Parks or the Great Dividing Range with, for example, Ben Boyd Lookout or Pigeon House Mt walks, or the coastal towns such as Ulladulla, Milton, Batemans Bay, etc. are very attractive. At Jervis Bay, located just north of this area, you can go on Whale watching and Dolphin tours, as well as diving expeditions.

There are maps and some informational brochures in the house.

Lovely lakeside retreat.

  • 5 of 5

My wife, our dog and I stayed a couple of nights in this beautiful little cottage and loved the tranquil nature of the property and surrounding areas. Even though it rained for most of our stay we enjoyed making the most of what the house and the gardens had to offer, as did the dog. There is plenty of space for 6+ people at Swanlake cottage but was still cosy with just the 3 of us there.

Highly recommended.

Rustic, relaxing retreat by the lake

  • 5 of 5

Two couples, a teenager and 3 dogs were very well catered for at Swanlake Cottage. There was easily room for us all, and we enjoyed time on the back deck, lounging on the front veranda, and watching the Australian Open tennis on the big screen TV from the comfort of the Balinese daybed. The lush gardens provide privacy and a cooling environment. The eclectic mix of art, furniture and collectables gives the cottage character and interest. Of importance to us (with a Houdini-like dog) was the secure back yard! The two fridges and high quality gas oven made self catering easy, and we also enjoyed several local eating options. The photos are a true reflection of the cottage. The owner is responsive and pleasant. We hope to return.

Individual style in a great location

  • 4 of 5

Swanlake Cottage was the perfect getaway for my children, grandchildren and I.

There was plenty of room for all of us to sleep as well as areas to lounge and relax. The day bed was very popular!

We loved the eclectic mix of furniture and art and the garden with so many paths to explore and sights to see.

Everything we needed was provided for in the house as well as the beautiful view of Swan Lake through the trees and the beaches nearby.

Thanks again Trudi for a magical stay

Worest place that I've ever stayed.

  • 1 of 5

what's been said about this place is completely wrong. The place is never cleaned spider webs everywhere daddy long leg spiders crawling on my kids at night time cockroaches everywhere ants in sink and on bench top its not pet friendly at all door lock falling out my daughter was having a shower and the shower head broke and water was everywhere we had to fix it up for them and the owner was contacted but doesn't want to know about the conditions of the place kept on blaming the cleaner I think in my opinion there haven't been a cleaner there for a long time. And the owner now avoids my phone calls. So if you like what happened to our holiday that was destroyed by this place your welcome to go and experience it by yourselves. Funny thing is that there's a black folder in the house if you read it, it say's when your there you need to clean all around the windows once they are opened cause of the cobwebs. It say's the house has been renovated as well I think the last time this place was renovated was when it was build.Don't be fooled by the photo's of the inside of this house it's runned down badly.I would not give it one star but I have to so I can post this review.

Good location

  • 2 of 5

We were a large family in Swanlake Cottage for a week over Christmas which was expensive as the basic price only covers two people. While the location is great as it is so close to the lake and not far from beaches, and the cottage has character, it should have been much cleaner and the outside tidied up. The barbecue did not work and was dangerous, the toaster needed replacing and there were various other issues. A shame as the lake is beautiful and was enjoyed by us all, and having the canoe to use was an asset.
