Kitsilano Cottage, the structure, is a heritage designation qualified 1916 Craftsman bungalow, typical of the Kitsilano neighbourhood. It has been meticulously restored and ethically upgraded to provide modern living convenience with architectural integrity with its origins.
A Suite @ Kitsilano Cottage is a single, upscale, self-contained, garden-level suite. It is approximately 825 square feet. There are two bedrooms. One has a king-size bed and the other a queen-size bed. The furnishings are a blend of antique and authentic hardwood reproductions in the Craftsman or, as our guests from the United Kingdom fondly refer to it, Macintosh style.
The suite has its own private entry, patio, separate private phone line, LCD Flat Screen TV with VCR/DVD and digital cable featuring Pay-Per-View and Video On Demand (at added cost), broadband Internet access by Ethernet and WiFi, stereo, a single bathroom with tub/shower, full Cook's kitchen, and in-suite laundry facilities, for guest use. Daily rate guests, staying over a week, are provided weekly linen changes and cleaning service. Breakfast is not served.
Also for daily rate guests the suite is provisioned with fresh fruit and baking, coffee and tea preparation supplies for a complimentary, self-catered, continental breakfast for the first morning. Beyond that, we recommend the many wonderful restaurants, within walking distance. There is always the option of using the suite's well-equipped, Cook's kitchen for preparing meals. There are several grocers, within easy walking distance, offering a good variety of your favorite meal preparation ingredients.
Please Note: A Suite @ Kitsilano Cottage does not accommodate guest pets, however we can recommend boarding services for the same. Note also that we are a non-smoking facility. While smoking outside is permitted, absolutely no smoking indoors is allowed.
Kitsilano District is clearly one of the most desirable urban-residential neighbourhoods in the world. It is cosmopolitan and near the warming influence of the waterfront, keeping the weather in a moderate range year-round. An area typified by its myriad arts and crafts design homes, lush gardens, green spaces, and its chic business areas. Most of the very finest restaurants and nightlife venues in all of Greater Vancouver, a city renowned for its great food, are within walking distance. Both wonderful boutique shopping and several beaches, again all within easy, safe walking distance, supplement this. For this reason, you will find properties outside the bounds of the district, advertising as being in Kitsilano. Our location between 4th Avenue and Broadway and Kitsilano Beach and Jericho Beach parks is the very heart of this wonderful part of the Vancouver's West Side.
Granville Island, a must on any visitor’s list, is built around a public market and a devotion to the arts. Theatres, artist studios, and fine dining venues abound. Or rent a boat or kayak and tour the beautiful waterways that define this city’s natural beauty.
Downtown and Stanley Park are just across the Burrard Street Bridge, which is an architectural highlight itself. The downtown core offers the cosmopolitan appeal of Robson Street, shopping at some of the most recognized names from Paris to Rodeo Drive and boundless nightlife and cultural venues. Enjoy the wonderful mix of architecture from the earliest days of Vancouver to today. All this is immediately adjacent the jewel of the crown, Stanley Park. Whether you choose to walk, roller blade, or cycle its seawall or visit the aquarium there is something for everyone through each season of the year here.

After my richly diverse career, mostly in public service, my beloved wife, Sally and I started this business. It was a great fit for us as we preferred being self employed, liked and were often on our computers, loved our neighbourhood, enjoyed walking and biking along the water, and were surrounded by great restaurants. We also loved travel, in which residential accommodations were always our preferred choice. So when we purchased this house we decided to offer something like a B&B but without the schedules and shared spaces, which we would have most preferred. We traveled a lot and always stayed at B&Bs. We loved the neighbourhoods, the always chosen heritage structures, the decor and the feeling of really being in that community, something we never felt in downtown core hotels.
Since Sally was taken by cancer, in 2002, I have continued to operate the business and maintain our house in her memory.
Christopher purchased this apartment in 1999
Centrally located, best neighbourhood in Vancouver. Close to everything, yet a beautiful tree lined streets, quiet, safe, residential neighbourhood. Beaches traffic calmed and dedicated cycling route along the waterfront. Many of Greater Vancouver's best restaurants and nite spots are within easy walking distance.
From the outset, it was clear that this business was not about beds for heads but service. What sets A Suite @ Kitsilano Cottage apart from all other properties offering accommodations is our iron clad commitment to being of service and always doing everything possible to make our guests feel impeccably cared for and looked after, while honoring their privacy in quiet and comfortable surroundings. It has always been our purpose to provide our guests with everything they need to most enjoy their stay in Vancouver. This involves a long list of guest centered thinking which guides our attention to detail.
Our family of four (two adults and two older children) enjoyed a long weekend at Christopher's cottage last July. The photos and descriptions were accurate, although the unit presents even more nicely than the photos suggest: it was immaculate, Christopher was on hand to show us around and welcome us with a generous basket of breads and fruits, and we immediately felt a part of the Kitsilano neighborhood. We dined at several 4th Street restaurants, enjoying the Vancouver Musuem, and spent every late afternoon at the beautiful Jericho Beach in Kitsilano, swimming and exercising and taking in the gorgeous summer sunsets. We're likely to seek out Christopher's attention to hosting detail again in the future.
Our whole family stayed here over 10 days in April. We really appreciated all the special touches that Christopher provided to Welcome us. The fruit and pastries were lovely. We were out to celebrate two milestone Family Birthdays, Easter and visit our daughter at UBC! Thank you for the delicious Easter chocolate bunnies and Prosecco. It was much appreciated and enjoyed by the family at Easter dinner!
The suite was totally outfitted with everything you would need. The kitchen had all we needed to make some meals. But we took advantage of the area to eat out at the many restaurants. We really loved having the in suite laundry. The apartment worked well for our family of 4.
Kitsilano Cottage is located in a perfect location close to many amenities and transit. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to walk to the beach and through the delightful neighbourhood.
Kits Cottage is a special place and we would definitely stay here again.
When Penny and I arrived, we were greeted by the owner, who we already knew to be warm, funny and gracious. We were surprised to have chocolates, wine, pastries and more waiting for our arrival as well. A beautiful touch that illustrates the experience we had staying at Kitsilano Cottage.
The home is beautifully finished, with crown molding, great beds and very functional kitchen, equipped with everything you'd need -- no skimping for those who love to cook! It is bright and feels bigger than it is, opening onto a private garden, with table and chairs beckoning us to stay outside to enjoy our coffee despite the March chill.
I would be remiss not to mention the location, which is a 10 minute walk to Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks, which is Vancouver's best stretch of beach. About 4 km's of sandy beach and walking trail. It is located between Broadway and West 4th, both minutes away by foot (the walking score is above 85 I believe). It is a bus ride to (or a 5 minutes drive) to Granville Island, Downtown, UBC etc.
We do not hesitate recommending a stay, short or long, at Kits Cottage. Thank you Christopher, for your unparalleled hospitality and sharing your beautiful home.
Wayne + Penny
Moving from Crescent Beach to Vancouver in the fall last year we were fortunate enough to find a home between homes in one of the best neighbourhoods in Vancouver. This gave us time to get to know an area close to where we'd soon be living too.
The Suite itself was immaculate and had a very well stocked kitchen. It was private and yet we had lots of natural light from all the windows. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room. It was wonderful to have a washer and dryer in the suite as well.
We loved it so much that we hope to stay again, even though it's only 10 minutes from our new home. Perhaps we will, just so we can walk to what are now our favourite shops and restaurants. We enjoyed the cozy dining room and having our family for Thanksgiving dinner... loved the close proximity to everything... and most of all, so appreciated Christopher's hospitality. We will definitely recommend the suite to our out of town guests and friends here at home.
Thank you Christopher!!!
A perfect home away from home!
I have stayed in many Kitsilano retreats in the past 10 years + this was definitely the best! The Suite is so well equipped + Christopher leaves no detail un-catered for; the visitor feels positively spoiled.
I will certainly be back soon.
Beautifully maintained lower floor apartment, craftsman-style decor well chosen, perfect kitchen, immaculate. Living room and DR have street-level full-height windows on the garden - bedrooms have clerestory windows. Owner is solicitous and provides a superb welcoming supply of organic fruits, chocolates and the best Vancouver breads and pastries. Also juices and bottled water. I have stayed here twice and will again.
Gardens, Nightlife, Most of Vancouver's finest restaurants within walking distance, boutique shopping in the neighbourhood, close to several beaches, near several theatres and cinemas.
