This beautiful, spacious, redwood cottage sits on incredible Island Lake about 2 miles out side of the unincorporated community of Orange Springs. Set on a perfect, private lake lot, the property consists of the large main house, a spacious guest house, carport, dock, boat house, and patio. Great lake views, old live oak trees with Spanish moss, and a lake breeze describe this picturesque environment. Completely renovated in 2011, this marvelous retreat has a large kitchen with gas range; dining, living, and family rooms overlooking the lake; new baths; laundry facilities; well-appointed furnishings; and more. The dock is terrific for fishing and the lake is great for swimming. 80 feet of shoreline awaits you. There is a canoe, charcoal grill, picnic table, and fire pit for relaxing outdoors.
As well, I have 2 other lake houses nearby if this one seems too large.

My family has owned property around this area since the late 1940's, and my ancestors came to Florida in 1845, when it was still a territory. It became at state 1848. After extenisve renovations and infrastructure upgrades, I began renting our other 2 lake homes in 2004 because I live outside tha US, and I am rarely in the States. I wanted others to enjoy this part of Florida as I did growing up. I have a wonderful local staff that works to make guests satisfied.
Edward Wynne purchased this house in 2011
I bought this property in 2011 because Island Lake is a stunning body of water. It is THE real natural Florida. Spectacular views, privacy, wooded lot, and no traffic or crowds.
Free standing home on enormous, private lake lot with old live oaks.
Beautiful lake for all activities: boating, fishing, swimming, etc.
Rural, yet elegant home with great furnishings.
Internet, WiFi, free US long distance calling, cable TV, and more.
What can we say, simply stunning!! The lakehouse was incredible. Even better than we expected. We had our Easter weekend getway there. It was stunning. The lakehouse was even bigger and nicer than we thought. Ed (the owner) was awsm. We used the firepit each nite (loved hotdog and smores over the fire), we love the grill and totally loved the "John" row boat. We used it each day. Love to do basic fishing and my hubby was so thrilled to catch a (little fish) the 1st day. One day we drive to Crescent Beach. It was a little drive but what a beautiful beach. We just wished the weather was a little friendlier. Thx Ed and Wanda (ur property mngr) for making our getaway wonderful! We will be back. - Denise and Chuck Kirkpatrick (Palmetto, GA) March 2016
We are a retired couple with 2 senior dogs and this beautiful home was the perfect place for us to spend a month away from our wintry Wisconsin area. The cottage was tastefully decorated, very clean and the owner extremely attentive and enjoyable to deal with. The yard was large, fenced and well maintained. The new screen porch was enjoyable and welcomed on a few rainy days.
It was an easy drive to both coastlines. We visited the manatee refuge in Crystal Rivers on the gulf side and did our beach walks at Crescent Beach on the Atlantic side along with 2 delicious red snapper dinners at the South Beach Grill. We also splurged on a Trophy Bass Fishing Expedition with Sean as our guide. We had a great time, went thru 5 dozen golden shiners, caught lots of fish, unfortunately no "Big Trophy" size. and viewed alligators and other wild life on the Ocklawaha River.
We experienced a part of Florida that most tourists don't see and loved every minute of it. Thank you Wanda, house manager, for your warm greeting upon our arrival and checking in on us during our stay. You made us feel so welcomed. Thank you Ed for making this vacation happen, I'm going to miss our enjoyable emails, your the BEST!

My daughter was in town for a week so I decided to take a little weekend getaway with her and my wife. My wife and I take a lot of weekend getaways using VRBO and other sites. This house was absolutly one of the nicest we've stayed in. It was so comfortable and nice. Ed was a pleasure to work with and very nice. His house manager was also very nice. Our dogs loved the huge front and back yards. I swam in the lake and enjoyed the nice quiet setting.
My wife and I rented this beautiful home set on a beautiful lake to get away from everything. And get away we did. This is a is a great place to relax. Everything was wonderful and the owner, Ed, we extremely nice and personal. Would love to come back again. The only thing I would suggest to make it better is if your stay is for a week or more, bring a boat to truly enjoy the lake.
This property looked great when we saw the photos on-line. When we walked in, we found that the photos didn't really do it justice. As we walked in the door, we were treated with a spectaculer view of the lake and the island for which it was named through the large bay window in the sitting room. The house was immaculate and equipped with everything needed for a pleasant stay. The owner called to make sure everything was satisfactory. The house manager and the caretaker were nearby and available to handle any potential problem. There were no problems. We visited friends who live in the area and we had family and friends visit during our six-week stay. The optional guest house was a nice touch and afforded privacy for visitors who came to stay for a while. We enjoyed a guided excursion on the Silver River where we observed and photographed a variety of birds, reptiles, monkeys, and other wildlife. Captain Tom was knowledgeable and entertaining. Some of us also went on a bass fishing trip with Captain Nick. We all had success, took photos, and released the fish to fight another day. We explored historic Saint Augustine and enjoyed Cuban cuisine at the Columbia Spanish Restaurant. We drove to Crystal River and watched the sun set into the Gulf from the public beach. While there, we stopped at Cracker's Grill & Tiki for a great seafood dinner and a lot of laughs. We also spent lazy afternoons in the sun, listening to music, playing cards, and reading, while relaxing on the lakeside deck by the pier. We found that this lakehouse had everything as advertised and more. We are definitely going back; this time for a longer visit.
We stayed at the Redwood Cottage for three weeks in Jan. We truly had a wonderful time.
It started with the owner "Ed" being very helpful with questions before we began our trip.
He sent all kinds of information on the area. Second, the house was very clean and comfortable and the area is quiet and beautiful. Lake is nice to swim and the house comes with a canoe. Another thing that was nice for us is the yard is all fenced for a dog.
We saw a part of Florida we had never seen before. Local boat sightseeing tours through
the Florida swamps were very enjoyable. Good seafood restaurants in nearby towns.
Enjoyable three weeks.
This beautiful and natural lake region lies near the Ocala National Forest. This delightful rural area sits in a perfect triangle between Ocala, Palatka, and Gainesville, Florida. Minutes from the west side of the Ocala National Forest, one can explore the Ocklawaha River, numerous springs, the St. John's River, etc. Hiking the forest, fishing, and swimming are other cost free activities. Plus, it is 55 minutes to the east coast beaches. There is much to do in the area's rivers, lakes, and springs. ******* Also, check out my other two Homeaway listings # 127321 and # 117133.
