About the property

2 BR's, 2 BA's, bunk beds in den, sleeps 7; Optional Guest House w/BA sleeps 2

This beautiful, spacious, redwood cottage sits on incredible Island Lake about 2 miles out side of the unincorporated community of Orange Springs. Set on a perfect, private lake lot, the property consists of the large main house, a spacious guest house, carport, dock, boat house, and patio. Great lake views, old live oak trees with Spanish moss, and a lake breeze describe this picturesque environment. Completely renovated in 2011, this marvelous retreat has a large kitchen with gas range; dining, living, and family rooms overlooking the lake; new baths; laundry facilities; well-appointed furnishings; and more. The main house sleeps 7. If you rent the optional guest house (2 persons), the property can accommodate a total of 9. The dock is terrific for fishing and the lake is great for swimming. 80 feet of shoreline awaits you. There is a canoe, charcoal grill, picnic table, and fire pit for relaxing outdoors.

As well, I have 2 other lake houses nearby if this one seems too large.

The property sits ideally between the cities of Ocala, Gainesville, and Palatka, each with its own distinct character. Ocala is home to:

Elegant Horse Country and Farms

National Ocala National Forest

Silver Springs Park is located

Central Florida Community College

Gainesville is home to:

The University of Florida

Santa Fe Community College

Shans University Hospital

The Veterans Hospital

Palatka is home to:

The St. Johns River

Fun Restaurants on the water

Closeness to East Coast Beaches

OTHER LAKE OPTIONS: Check out my two other lakefront properties on the next lake over. These other 2 are next door to each other on separate acres. Ideal to rent just one cottage or for a large family gathering by leasing both. Listing/ Property IDs: 127321 and 117133.

About Edward Wynne

My family has owned property around this area since the late 1940's, and my ancestors came to Florida in 1845, when it was still a territory. It became at state 1848. After extenisve renovations and infrastructure upgrades, I began renting our other 2 lake homes in 2004. I wanted others to enjoy this part of Florida as I did growing up. I have a wonderful local staff that works to ensure that guests are satisfied.

Edward Wynne purchased this house in 2011

Why Edward Wynne chose Fort McCoy

I bought this property in 2011 because Island Lake is a stunning body of water. It is THE real natural Florida. Spectacular views, privacy, wooded lot, and no traffic or crowds.

Best vacation to relax and enjoy nature and the area in a beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends had a great time in the Redwood cottage at Island Lake. It felt like heaven! The pictures don’t do it justice. Beautiful, peaceful, not lacking of anything. The fire pit was a big hit for us and Michael the groundskeeper was very helpful in bringing us firewood and to offer help if we had any questions, which wasn’t necessary since we had everything we needed. Excellent directions, instructions and information from the owner...very thorough. Great place to relax and visit, play games, swim in the lake, fish, canoe, bbq, etc. Absolutely first rate place. The area is near the Ocala National Forest where we hiked the Yearling Trail and saw a bear! We also took a day to visit the St. Augustine historic district and Anastasia State Park, less than an hour’s drive away on perfectly scenic roads. We also explored the historic old churches and cemeteries in Orange Springs. It did take a while to get used to the well water, which is perfectly safe, but we had plenty of bottled water for drinking. Honestly we didn’t want to leave...Very peaceful yet fun experience to vacation and celebrate my birthday! Thank you Mr. Wynne, we will definitely be back!

I liked the house a lot and the beds were really comfortable. Also, the barbecue and fire pit was amazing, along with the boats. The lake was also really pretty... it was a beautiful experience and we are sure to return.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family made last minute reservations for my sons 14th birthday. My son loves to fish so finding a house on the lake was a requirement. We were very fortunate to find this rental property. It had ample space for our family of 6 in the main house and we rented the additional cottage on site for my parents. Both the main house and cottage were very clean upon arrival. We were provided a contact number to have firewood delivered at a great price! It is in the middle of nowhere, but that's what makes it so relaxing. There is a small grocery store, a Dollar General, convenient store, liquor store and hardware store that sells bait 5 minutes away. They are all at the same intersection which makes it very convenient. The owner Wayne was a pleasure to work with. He provided us with so much information regarding activities to do in the area, the history of the home and island, directions with a map to the rental property and contact numbers if there are any issues during our stay. All of this was provided the day I booked the rental property. The backside of the house faces the lake and has large windows so you have a beautiful view of the lake. The fire pit was perfect for our large family to gather around at night especially since it was a cold weekend. The children loved having kayaks and a john boat onsite to use for fishing. My husband and I played corn hole out back while we watch the children fish on the dock. I would highly recommend this property! We are planning on booking this rental property again for this summer when the children can enjoy swimming in the lake.

We had a marvelous Christmas vacation with our family at the cabin. We kayaked and canoed all week long. We enjoyed fires in the fire pit. It was a great escape. Thank you!
