My family and I enjoyed our stay at Montmelas. Communication with Marie and check-in/out was very smooth. The property’s location was perfect for exploring the Beaujolais region. Too bad it was a short stay that we did not get a chance to explore the castle grounds. The antique grape press M. Antoine showed us was impressive. Merci beaucoup for your hospitality. See you next time.
My family and I (wife and 10yr old son) enjoyed our stay thoroughly. Truly unique gite situated within the grounds of a walled castle... what more is there to say? Only that it is also surrounded by beautiful hilly scenery covered by gamay vines! Wonderful place to set up camp and explore the beaujolais region.
Thank you nice to welcome you
Great place, wonderful hospitality, fascinating history, region and location.
We were in the area for one day of business and five days of wine touring and general exploring of the Beaujolais region. The weather was a very pleasant early spring with wild cherries and daffodils blooming but no leaves on the trees yet, clear, highs in the mid fifties. You can easily see the snow capped Alps in the eastern distance, with Mont Blanc looming tall over the other peaks. Our hosts could not have been nicer or more interesting. The place itself is at once grand, rustic, and absolutely genuine. The accommodations are perfect for a family. It would be a great base for bicycle touring (either on or off road) as well as the more hedonistic samplings of great food and wine!.
This is the kind of find that makes VRBO such a useful service!
Owned by our family since 1566, the Château de Montmelas, located at the foot of the village of Montmelas Saint Sorlin (69640), initially the stronghold of the Lords of Beaujeu. By staying a few days in our cottage, you will have the opportunity to discover this wine property which dominates the valley: its towers and its crenels, its view of the surrounding vineyards and the entire Saône valley. To discover the history of this castle and that of its owners and to taste our wine, do not hesitate to contact us (http: // www. Chateau-montmelas. Com /).
For other sports activities you will find nearby the Acrobranche Au fil des Arbres park in Blacé (www. Aufildesarbres. Fr).
From Montmelas, discover the Beaujolais wine and vintage route: Chiroubles, Fleurie, Saint-Amour, Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Juliénas, Régnié, Chénas, Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent.
Also take the Pierres Dorées du Beaujolais route. It crosses the most beautiful villages of the region, with an orange-colored stone habitat which brings to the region this particular luminosity. From Lyon, visit Alix, Frontenas (pretty wash house) or Bagnols, Theizé (Rochebonne castle and the old church), Oingt (one of the most beautiful villages in France), Jarnioux (facade of its 6-tower castle), Cogny, Lacenas (Sainte Paule chapel and Sou castle), Montmelas and its castle, Saint Cyr le Chatoux, (goat cheese and hiking trails), then Rivolet.
The crest road
To the west of Anse, the 'Route des Crêtes' (D 70) rises, offering beautiful panoramas of the Saône valley and the vineyards of southern Beaujolais: chapel from Buisante to Pommiers, Lachassagne, Marcy-sur- Anse (its telegraph tower), Charnay (11th and 12th century church), Saint Jean des Vignes, Charnay and Alix.
Finally visit Lyon!
