About Donald Stoppe
Owners Don and Arlene Stoppe have lived in the Squam lakes area since we met at Plymouth State College in the early 1980s. Don is an avid water skier competing in barefoot water ski competitions. Both Don and Arlene love bicycling around our area and snow skiing. Arlene plows a skate loop around Little Squam Lake in the winter when conditions allow. We live on Little Squam all year in the next house down. We are happy to set up bikes to fit you properly. We can also give you suggestions on hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling.
Donald Stoppe purchased this House in 1996
Why Donald Stoppe chose Ashland
This is one of the nicest beaches on the lake. You are surrounded by large tree forests and sounds of nature. The living room fireplace is wonderful for a cozy evening get together. The home is a year round house with a drilled well for excellent drinking water. Kayaks and a canoe are available as well as bicycles for our guests. There are beautiful hikes right from the property. Outstanding mountain hikes are less than 15 minutes away.
What makes this House unique
This is a year round home that is finished nicely inside. We run a dehumidifier year round to keep it fresh. The living room has air conditioning as well as a/c in one queen bedroom upstairs. The location is excellent for a ski house vacation rental. You are 15-35 minutes from 6 snow ski areas. Loon Mountain, Waterville Valley, Cannon Mountain, Gunstock Ski Area, Ragged Mountain and Tenney Mountain ski area. We have a ski tuning bench in the basement with an iron for waxing your skis. Fantastic getaway on Squam Lake
Can't say enough good things about this property and the owners! The property is beautiful and feels like home. The owners have thought of everything and go above and beyond to make your stay with them memorable. By far, the best home away from home we've visited!
The house is lovely. Fabulous television also have a hot tub and a well equipped kitchen. We plan to come back here. The beach is also lovely and the owners very easy and accommodating. The house is also very clean. We live it here and plan to come bacl
Great Winter Home!
The house was great, and perfect for a nice winter getaway! Very well stocked kitchen, ample space for group gatherings both inside and out, and a beautiful location. Comfortable and clean bedding, as well. The all-seasons hot tub and outdoor fire pit both made for a great evening activity, even in the snow. The check in and out process was incredibly easy, and Don provided great information on things to do in the area, and offered a lot of necessary equipment for snow shoeing and ice skating! We'll definitely be back!
Loved our stay on Little Squam!
We loved our week at Don and Arlene's. Mountains, lakes, wild turkeys in the backyard! Enjoyed the hot tub, fire pits, walking trails. We had everything we needed, the house was clean and comfy, and the Keurig coffee station was a plus! Don and Arlene are two of the most generous people we have ever met, and they gave us great advice on navigating the larger Squam Lake with our rented pontoon.
P.S. Thanks, Arlene, for the loan of the book. I really enjoyed it.

Super clean. Super nice owners. Really comfortable house
The owners are super nice people. The house is really comfortable. Beds were great. Lots of supplies. Felt like we were in our own home. The water was very clean and beach was clean. Took advantage of the grills and hot tubs. Just not enough time yo do it all. Will definitely go back again.
Wonderful week on a beautiful lake!
We had a wonderful week! The house was clean and had everything we needed. Don and Arlene were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating- we couldn’t ask for better!
Hikes along the Squam range are the closest and provide a beautiful view of the lakes region. Snowmobile trails are accessible from the property that lead to Canada, Maine and Vermont. We connect to Primary Trail 204 to Corridor 8 and Corridor 11 snowmobile trails. When conditions allow we plow an ice skate loop on Little Squam. Our hospitality book suggests hikes, bike rides, dinner places and many other ideas for things to do around Squam Lake.
