This villa is located in the heart of Casteldaccia, a quaint village on a Sicilian hill, two km from the sea and 20 min. easy drive to Palermo. The location offers all the best. Placed in the centre of the town, the villa overlooks an intimate garden, while at the same time it offers you a taste of local life and easy walks for your shopping. Excellent is the local production of wine. Don't forget to taste the world renown 'Corvo, Duca di Salaparuta'.

Freeway `connection, located 200 meters away, will allow you to quickly connect, explore and discover remote areas of the island.

Sicily is the largest and most important island in the Mediterranean, it extends for 25,460sq km. Planes of fertile red soil, excellent for the cultivation of vine grapes, citrus orchards and olive groves, alternate with hills, green in spring for the cultivation of wheat and, among the majestic mountains, Mount Etna, the most popular of active volcanoes. The climate is typically Mediterranean along the coasts, with mild, short winters and moderate rainfall.

Palermo, 1.500.000 inhabitants, capital of Sicily – an island in the sea of sunlight – is a splendid city adorned in the course of 2500 years by Greeks, Arab Emirs, Norman Kings and Spanish Viceroys; it offers an incomparable example of beauty, history, culture and traditions to excite the mind and the eye. It has a wide selection of museums and entertainment. Casteldaccia is well connected to Palermo by freeway and by public transportation. Close-by centers are: Santa Flavia and Solunto, with its Graeco-Roman archaeological site, 3 km west; Bagheria, an active and very alive town, ideal for elegant shopping, with its seventeenth century mansions once summer retreat of the Palermitan aristocracy, 5 km west; Porticello, a delightful fisherman village, 3 km west; Aspra, another unspoiled fisherman village, 5 km west; and Altavilla, with its Sanctuary to the Holy Mary, 2 km east. All are offering plenty of tourist attractions.

Casteldaccia is east of Palermo, so you will be closer and will not meet the city traffic when driving for a day trip to Cefalu`, Taormina, Mount Etna, Siracusa, Agrigento, Selinunte.

We recommend excursions to: Palermo e Monreale (20 km), Cefalu` (50 km), Segesta, Agrigento, Madonie Natural Park (80 km), Taormina (200 km), Mount Etna (200 km), Siracusa (250 km), Eolie Islands.

Many thanks for our great week at your villa and in your Sicily. One of our best trips.

Ray & the group

Maria & Riccardo

How can I possibly thank you enough for your kindness and care during our stay in your wonderful villa. It was such a nice time here and I enjoyed it tremendously . I am sorry I was such a pest and required special attention, but at least that way we got to spend more time together.

The garden is a wonderful place to relax and recover. I have taken some picturesof the garden, but I will not need pictures to remember your home and my time here.

Thank you again

Tom D

Maria & Riccardo -

We enjoyed your Casa so very much. Because of our unexpected limitations on travel I was able to truly enjoy the lovely gardens and just relax there. your casa is so very welcoming & comfortable.

it soon began to feel like 'home' to me.

Maria, your help when I needed to get Tom to the hospital was so generous. You helped me in so very many ways. I will never forget. Grazie Mille. Thank you both for sharing your home, clothing and hospitality. Your Casa is a lovely place to just BE AT HOME

Jerry VT & Tom D

Family catch up!

I'm from Australia and my wife is a kiwi (New Zealander) over here for a long holiday. We met up here with my brother and sister from Wales & England respectively.

What a catch up! With spouses we were six and all had a fantastic stay. (We hadn't seen each other for several years!)

Maria & Riccardo, you added so much to our stay - molto gentile!

The villa is a heaven and Sicily is a treasure trove.

•History in heritage sites and experiences like ricotta making the old way!

• Food - thanks for the recommendation

• Culture - Casteldaccia and surroundings.

Mille grazie

We came & fell in love with Sicily's wonderful mountain scenery, exquisite spring flowers & enjoyed friendly helpful people.

One highlight was a scenic trip round the mountain which Caccamo at its centre to the east of Casteldaccia. Strong climbing shoes required!

Nearby is Porticello a quaint fishing village where you can buy fresh fish & walk along the promenade. Not far away at St Flavia is a spectacular walk (concrete path) ending at the disused Lighthouse.

Excellent, cheap train service to Palermo. Strongly recommended instead of driving.

Solunto also a highlight.

A comfortable , elegant house with a delightful garden and as artists we enjoyed & appreciated the many art books.

We advise checking the availability & proximity of restaurants & found local food shops very well stocked.

Enjoy Sicily - and take your time

About Maria

The garden has been in my family since the year 1725, when the town of Casteldaccia was founded by my ancestors

I grew up and played every summer with my brother and my cousins in this garden, at that time much larger. Many years later, also my children played in it every summer. Many of my fondest memories are connected to this garden

Maria purchased this villa in 1965

Why Maria chose Palermo

The house, built in 1965, was my first project after I graduated in Architecture!

Every year I return with my family to this house and to Casteldaccia to restore my energy and get in touch with my roots.

For 10 years, during summer, I ran in the garden a ‘Scuolina’, a free Art School for the children of Casteldaccia and nearby towns, teaching drawing, painting and ceramics.

What makes this villa unique

My home is located off the main road of Casteldaccia, at walking distance from all the stores. At the same time allows me to retreat at home in the paradise of my subtropical garden.

Casteldaccia is close to Bagheria, a larger town, where I can go shopping, and still enjoy the fresh air of the countryside.

Palermo, the capital of Sicily, is only 20 minutes away from my reach, with its history, culture and traditions, restaurants, museums, churches, squares.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wonderful week spent in the house for a family reunion. We had 4 children who had a great time playing in the garden.

Great base for exploring the local area.

1 - Climbing 'La Rocca' at Cefalù - beautiful sea views, amazing sunset.

2 - Having a beach day(also at Cefalù) in November!!!

3 - Ruins at Segesta - again gorgeous views

4 - Gelati on a daily basis - personal local favourite was 'La Rotonda'

Took the advice of previous guest and had roast chicken from the deli - delicious

Thank you for the very detailed instructions, very handy.

fabulous holiday. Just wish it could have been longer.

A Pearl of a Place

  • 5 of 5

I could sum up the experience my wife and I had in Villa delle Palme in Casteldaccia with the cracking open a rough and unappealing oyster only to discover a beautiful pearl within its warm, welcoming nacred walls. Such was the impact the house had on both of us. Don’t be deceived by the unassuming entrance. After having stayed at various carefully appointed hotels around Europe, all made of the same stamp, we had decided to find a place which would exude the original human touch, the warmth of stones and walls that had witnessed life across the centuries. This is what we found in Villa delle Palme as well in the owners

Maria and Riccardo, in their warm and sincere down-to-earth welcome and friendly helpfulness. The spacious rooms were complemented by a luxurious truly Mediterranean garden-orchard. I have highly recommend it to members of my family and to my friends. Grazie, Maria and Riccardo for a marvellous memory.

Mediterranean Magic

  • 5 of 5

This is indeed a special place in an ideal location. We went as a family, ourselves and our two children with their partners and young children. The house was absolutely perfect. It was suffused both with the history of the family and the area, as well as with the beautiful artefacts that the family had crafted. There was ample space for all and we particularly appreciated the downstairs bedroom with its shower and toilet facilities. What enthused us all so much was the luscious Mediterranean garden with its lemon and fig trees and its space for children to play. The owners were so welcoming and friendly. They provided us with anything we wished and were a fount of knowledge. They even set out a ceramic experience for the children. The village was alive with a festival. The road was lit up and each evening there were stalls and fireworks for the children to enjoy. We were near beaches and took the children swimming. All in all a memory to treasure.

Hidden gem in a charming location

  • 5 of 5

Three generations in our family adored the Villa Delle Palme. It is chock full of character, with beautifully decorated rooms, lots to read and do, and a tropical jungle of a garden. It is particularly useful to have a downstairs double room and bathroom for people who can't negotiate stairs so well.

The owners could not have been more helpful. They were available without being intrusive, taking my mother for a swim, and running a plate decorating workshop for the children (they fired them in their own kiln!)

Casteldaccia is a very friendly town with some great food. We were lucky to arrive just in time for their saint's festival which was lively and fun. It is a short drive to the beech, but the house is very near to the main route along the coast which makes the whole island available to explore.

I recommend the Villa Delle Palme to anyone who wants a mediterranean holiday for the whole family.

What a wonderful place! We knew we made the right choice from the moment Alessandra opened the gate. The garden is enchanting, fresh figs that can be eaten straight off the tree, lemons and grapes. The children spent a lot of their time playing there.

The house was exactly as we had hoped it would be. A home away from home with plenty of space for nine of us. We were two families and at no time did we feel cramped or running out of space. Everything we needed was there, we had barbecues and cooked.

Casteldaccia is not a touristy town but if you want to experience everyday Sicilian life, this is the right place. Supermarket is around the corner, beautiful gelato can be got just down the road and as for the breads and pastries... don't come here if you're on a diet because you need to try all the delicious fresh and cheap foods available. Some lovely Pizzerias and restaurants as well, if you have children, Piano Verde has a gated playground, nice food and friendly staff.

The closest beach is a good 20 minute walk away, it's hilly.

Now to the most important part. Maria and Riccardo, the owners were unbelievable in the hospitality and helpfulness. Giving advice, organising car rental ( definitely would recommend renting a car), Riccardo doing ceramics with the children, giving advice in an unobtrusive manner and cooking a fantastic meal for us. This has been a holiday to remember for all the right reasons. Don't forget your insect repellent.

Not just a holiday, it was an experience!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived at Castledaccia train station I knew we'd made the right choice with this place. A warm welcome from Maria and Alessandra followed by a excillerating ride up the hill in Marias vintage VW Beetle started our holiday in earnest. This is the most relaxing holiday home I've been to, its got everything you could need, spacious comfortable bedrooms and a great outdoor seating area where we spent many hours relaxing. The accommodation included basics like soap, tissue, washing powder and kitchen condiments this helped us feel at home straight away.

Our hosts struck the perfect balance between being available for advice and assistance with any of our needs and never intruding. Their help is genuine and forthcoming which is great when you're in unfamiliar territory.

After a few days exploring Casteldaccia and trips by train we built up the courage to hire a car and Riccardo was most helpful with organising this.

We picked up a little Fiat Panda from Frank at the car center in Casteldaccia which allowed us to see highlights such as Taormina and Erice. Frank was a pleasure to do business with. If you don't like walking get a car!

This isn't a touristy town, its the real deal. The best gelato we had in Sicily, was here in Casteldaccia. Fantastic value bakerys restaurants and takeaways, just a short walk.

We especially enjoyed the day when Riccardo and Maria made fresh pesto and passata in their little garden kitchen and allowed us to join in the fun.

Coming from rainy Ireland it was a treat to relax in the beautiful garden, a safe place for the kids to play surrounded by fig trees, lemons and grapes.

After two weeks, there were still places left to explore.

This place was everything we hoped it would be and then some.

Both us and our kids loved our trip and will go home with great memories for life.

Thank you so much Maria and Riccardo

VILLA DELLE PALME is located in the heart of Casteldaccia, a quaint village on a Sicilian hill, two km from the sea and 20 min. easy drive to Palermo.

The location offers a unique setting. Not traditionally placed in the country, this villa is not isolated, but placed in the center of the town, melted among the town houses.

You enter a portal and are placed in a magic intimate garden, while at the same time retain a taste of the local life, easy shopping and leisure walks.

Excellent is the local production of wine. Don’t forget to taste the world renown 'Corvo, Duca di Salaparuta'.
