Private Studio With King Size Bed And Lots Of Charm Near Monterey Bay Beaches
About Jenny Carrington
I am English by birth but have lived in the Santa Cruz area since 1980. I love this part of the world and find the climate suits me so perfectly, I have never felt the need to return to rainy, cold England, except for short visits every year to see family. I am energetic, have a great sense of humor, love to travel and discover the mysteries the world has to offer. I am also an avid reader and member of two book clubs. I enjoy gardening, walking with my dog, Bunny, on the beach and in the redwoods, going to movies, eating good food, meeting new people and everything about this part of California. An afternoon sailing on the Monterey Bay with friends is one of my favorite things do. I have a wealth of information to share with my guests on all the exciting activities and wonderful restaurants in and around the Santa Cruz area.
Jenny Carrington purchased this Studio in 1999
Why Jenny Carrington chose Watsonville
Since coming to California it was always my dream to own a little piece of it for myself and my family, however tiny. Having lived in several countries before arriving on these shores, Santa Cruz was my destination of choice, and I couldn't have chosen anywhere better. Finally after a lot of hard work, I was able to buy a house which has been a work in progress ever since. Be careful what you dream for!
What makes this Studio unique
I am often told how unusual and eclectic my little house is, both inside and out and I have continued that theme in the private studio cottage at the end of my garden. Growing up in England and having lived in houses built hundreds of years ago, I particularly like the older architecture in California and enjoy the features of the farm house style, especially the ones made from the old growth redwood as mine is. There is something organic and arts and crafts about the structure and I strive to keep that alive in all the renovations I have done over the years. My love of gardening completes the picture.

You will have the listing entirely to yourselves, but please be considerate of neighbors and the people who live in the main house. Noise should be kept to a minimum after 10pm please. BATHROOM AND WATER CONSERVATION: California's five year drought has already destroyed millions of trees. We are very aware of the need to conserve water. Please enjoy your shower but try to keep it short. Only flush the toilet when absolutely necessary and dispose of tissues and feminine hygiene products in the receptacle provided, never in the toilet. We also love our beautiful Monterey Bay and want to keep it as unpolluted as possible, therefore, we encourage all our guests to use organic products, soaps and shampoos whenever possible. SAFETY: No naked flames, candles, etc in or near the house. There is a fire extinguisher provided and a first aid box in the bathroom cupboard. A rechargeable flashlight in case of a power cut is in the kitchen. Please make sure electrical appliances are turned off when not in use. KITCHEN: Refrigerator, toaster, electric kettle and all utensils, plates, cups and glasses are available to you. The stove and oven are not. There are many excellent restaurants nearby, including some great breakfast places and I can provide you with recommendations and directions. If you would like the use of a microwave, I will provide one for you. Please just ask. OUTDOOR AREAS FOR YOUR USE: Please feel free to use the patio area just outside the front door. Also there is a comfy sofa to relax on in the gazebo (aka The Red Shed) to the left of the patio. I don't object to smoking outside in these areas. Enjoy the garden, pick a tomato or two and please feel free to wander. YOUR NEEDS: If there's anything you need, or anything at all that gives you cause for concern, or if you have any suggestions for making your stay more enjoyable, please let us know. A REQUEST FROM ME: It is very important to me that your stay be enjoyable and comfortable. I am a new host on Airbnb and, of course, am anxious to get good reviews. I really welcome your feedback so that I can make adjustments and improvements. If after your stay you intend to award less than 5 stars in any category, please tell me why. Also to tell us if there's anything you'd like us to have done differently. Your feedback is very welcome and much valued. + More

Very nice spacious studio cottage with everything you need. We loved the dog “Bunny” who frequented the patio and gardens and the outside covered area with grill and living space.
We will definitely stay again!
So much nicer then staying in a hotel!!!
This rental was everything we needed!!! So relaxing to come back to after sight seeing for the day. We also enjoyed Bunnie meeting us at the gate entrance and visiting us for a belly rub! Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with us!!
The space is lovely with beautiful garden and outdoor seating areas. Jenny is a wonderful host! I thoroughly enjoyed my relaxing stay and look forward to another visit next year.
The Operative Words by Jenny...
...are Quiet and Charming! Perfect for our weekend of enjoying presentations/seminars nearby. Jenny's directions were easy to follow, her location secluded and quiet, in this bedroom community of Watsonville. Her place is quaint in the best sense of the word!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Jenny's studio. It was the perfect size & very comfortable. Jenny has thought of absolutely everything, including ear plugs! Which were not needed at the studio is very quiet. The garden is lovely & a perfect spot to relax. I spent a little time each day in the Red Shed, there were so many hummingbirds, they even came in the shed to greet me!! Jenny is a wonderful host and Bunny is an equally awesome co-hostess!! Bunny met me at the gate each day when I arrived back at the studio & then hung out for a short time for belly-rubs, I was missing my 4 pups, so Bunny's company was very much appreciated.
The huge king-sized bed is very comfortable, & the towels are amazingly soft!!
Everything is available in the kitchenette area that you could need for a short stay.
I was there to visit my daughter in Monterey. The studio in Watsonville was just right, we traveled to Big Sur, San Francisco, & Carmel. There are several beaches nearby & plenty of fresh fruit & veggie stands.
I enjoyed my time here very much & would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the area.
Thank you so much Jolynn and I so enjoyed meeting you and your daughter. One of the pleasures of hosting is to read the comments in the visitors' book and your's were so heartwarming. Please come back any time.
Owner was very nice and extremely helpful. My husband has some recent mobility issues and she was willing to do some things to enable us to stay in the studio, which we had booked 12 months in advance.
We also appreciated her suggestions on things to do in the area, including the Saturday Farmer's market in Asop.
Thanks Jenny for your warm hospitality! Certainly a very safe and relaxing place.
I enjoyed meeting you both very much and do hope that your husband has a fast recovery. I must say, I was so impressed at his tenacity at not allowing his injury to take over his life. Thank you for your lovely review.
Nestled in the inner section of the Monterey Bay coastline, away from the fog zone, this comfy cottage studio is the perfect quiet and private getaway. Close to some of the most spectacular scenery in California and excellent restaurants, wineries and breweries, you will never be short of something to do. Close by are miles of beautiful beaches, whale watching, sailing, kayaking, biking, hiking, parachuting, zip lining , birding, sunset gazing and people watching. What's not to love about this place where I'm so lucky to live. Halfway between Monterey and Santa Cruz, you have the chance to get the best of both worlds. South to Moss Landing, Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur with the breathtaking views and beaches, state parks, galleries, restaurants, museums, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, just to name a few. Also mouthwatering seafood everywhere.
Then north to Santa Cruz, with more state parks, beautiful beaches, the excitement of the famous Boardwalk, the crazy Mystery Spot, great restaurants and movie theaters, wine tours and every outdoor activity you could dream of. There are loads of information brochures for you to peruse in the studio.
You will have the whole studio space to yourself, completely private and detached from the main house, and just a short walk through the garden. Also there is a little patio area just outside and a comfy sitting area in the Gazebo (aka The Red Shed). There is plenty of off road parking. Drive through the gate nearest the mailboxes. Carry on straight past the house and park in front of the garage. Go through the gate on the left of the garage, then turn immediately right and the studio will be just through the garden on the right.
Please text or phone me if you have any questions or if you need anything. There is a binder with restaurant suggestions and also pamphlets for things to do in the area. I have lived in this area for over 35 years, so am happy to give suggestions.
Watsonville is a unique farming community, with wonderful organic and large scale farms. There are some of the best Mexican restaurants around and we are just a short distance going north to Santa Cruz and south to Moss Landing, Monterey and Carmel, where you will find great seafood restaurants, wineries and stores. The closest supermarkets are Safeway and Nob Hill. There is a wonderful local winery called Windy Oaks that has picnic sites and spectacular views of the bay. Corralitos Brewery is just around the corner. The Wooden Nickel, funky bar on Freedom Blvd has the best burgers around (the Nickel Burger is my personal favorite) and Cafe Rio at Seascape Beach has fine dining and a separate little coffee shop to enjoy morning coffee with a beach view. So many things to do around here.
Uber is established in the area and also other taxi services.
There is bus service close by, just a few minutes walk and it's only a five minute drive to Hwy 1 to go either north to Santa Cruz or south to Moss Landing (great seafood restaurants), Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur.
