Casa Fortuna is a newly remodeled villa on 1/2 acre of beach front solitude. Located 55 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta airport, transportation to La Penita de Jaltemba is easy by car, taxi or bus. Casa Fortuna is reminiscent of a an old hacienda, open to the beach with 155 feet of ocean front on the west and sitting behind privacy walls on the other three sides to create a private courtyard with heated pool, surrounded by coconut palms, limes, banana and pineapples, bird of paradise, hibiscus, bougainvillea and other colorful tropical plants as well as parrots, squirrels and iguanas. Enjoy watching the gentle ocean, spectacular sunsets, and migrating whales from the wide verandas, float or play volleyball in your own private pool or lounge on the beach and swim in the warm, calm waters of Jaltemba Bay. Enjoy a professional massage in the privacy of your own villa. We can arrange for a masseuse, or manicure and pedicure at your convenience. This is total relaxation!
With the addition of a second floor in 2006, Casa Fortuna boasts 4 bedrooms (three with large, comfortable KING beds and one with two twin beds) and 3 baths, making it a perfect retreat for friends and families. The first floor has a fully equipped kitchen, a living area with comfortable sofa and chairs for lounging and table for dining, and one Suite with King bed and adjoining bath. A breezy veranda, perfect for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails, runs the entire length of the house on both levels, offering spectacular views of the beach, swaying palms, and the ocean.
The newly built second floor is tiled throughout, with three bedrooms, two Master Suites with king-sized beds, and the third with twin beds, that can be joined to make a king. You will not believe the ocean views that greet you each morning, when you sit up in bed! Linens and pillows are provided. Additional sleeping is available with use of inflatable beds. Two upstairs baths are beautifully finished with hand made Mexican tile, and modern fixtures.
Casa Fortuna is an easy walk from the center of La Penita de Jaltemba, a colorful Mexican town where you will find restaurants, taco stands, grocery stores, meat and fish markets, shopping, disco, Internet shops, kayak and bicycle rentals. The tiangus or community market, is held every Thursday morning in the town square where you can buy handicrafts from Mexico, jewelry, clothing, household goods, produce, seafood, and fresh bread and pastries. Walk or taxi a few miles down the beach to Rincon de Guayabitos, a busy resort town with party boats, whale watching tours, fishing, banana boats, jet skis, para sailing, horseback riding, beach front dining, and karaoke!
After a great evening out, or a wonderful meal prepared at the house by Sandra and Rick, wind down on the veranda, with tea lights flickering around you, the moon shining through the palm trees above, and the music of the waves inviting you to sleep. This is paradise!
Sandra and Rick, our English fluent caretakers live on site in a casita at the back of the property. They are wonderful cooks and can prepare traditional Mexican or American/Canadian style meals at the house for a very reasonable fee, so pamper yourself and make this a real vacation! Sandra can also babysit for a relaxing night out without the kids, arrange a boat ride to Chacala for lunch and whale watching, a fishing trip on a local panga boat or a driver for an out of town adventure to see the crocodiles in San Blas, the petroglyph's in Alta Vista or maybe down the road to Puerto Vallarta,Sayulita, San Pancho or even Guadalajara.
Transportation to and from Puerto Vallarta Airport can be arranged with licensed Taxi that is familiar with the house and location. Look for the sign with your name when arriving at the airport...(make a stop for groceries at a large grocery store or shop locally in La Penita).....it is as simple as that!

We are long time friends who LOVE Mexico. After owning a home in Puerto Vallarta we were ready for a more relaxed vacation home on the beach. La Penita de Jaltemba met all of our needs. A beautiful calm bay with active exciting beach areas with all the vendors you want or choose quiet beachfront areas with all the tranquility you desire. We found a smaller community of Expats who have found the beauty of this small town with all the charm of Mexico and have integrated with the local population. We found our paradise!
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
La Penita is a small town with all the services needed for a perfect vacation. Easy transportation from the airport in Puerto Vallarta can be arranged. No need for a car! Taxi or walk to everywhere!!
Long walks on the beach, swimming in the warm ocean and privacy for the most relaxing vacation ever! Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Amazing caretakers to arrange private tours and in house services like massage and pedicures. Private walled courtyard with a wonderful solar heated pool, tropical gardens, fruit trees and lots of wildlife to watch make for a relaxing time. Perfect for family vacations.
I cannot say enough good things about Casa Fortuna. Every detail from the airport pickups, to meals, to activates, to reservations were flawless.
We rented Casa Fortuna for a vacation between two families (7 people in total). The house was amazing with an authentic hacienda feel. The ocean was steps away and of course the gorgeous pool and backyard were right at our fingertips.
The caretakers, Sandi and Rick, were incredible. We paid Said an incredibly reasonable rate to cook dinner for us each night. We loved having authentic Mexican dishes and being able to eat under the twinkling lights of the garden rather than going out to a restaurant. On the one night we did venture into the town Sandi and Rick arranged reservations and transportation for us which was a huge help.
With Sandi’s help we booked jet skis, had massages facials and manicures at the house, and even arranged a day trip visit to the mangroves of San Blas an hour or so away. They sweetly arranged for us to have a traditional Mexican New Year’s celebration by getting us a piñata to break at midnight!
The town is very small but friendly. We ventured in for the Thursday markets and of course for some lunchtime tacos. There are grocery stores and pharmacies that have anything you could ever need, but Sandi was wonderful about letting us give her a list of things we wanted from the store/pharmacy and she would happily get them.
The internet was strong for when we occasionally wanted to check a few emails but the majority of the time we were laying out relaxing on the beach or poolside.
Before booking I contacted the owners to ask several questions and their responses were prompt and complete. My family and I were looking for an authentic Mexico getaway far away from tourists and any “Cancun” type vibes. We were able to help a local fisherman pull in his nets, meet local artisans, and eat some amazing food all within a short walk from the house. Casa Fortuna was the perfect home for us.
Honestly we have no complaints and can’t wait for our next trip to Casa Fortuna. If you’re looking for an authentic Mexican getaway far from the crowds this is for you!
Thank you again to Sherry, Doreen, Rick and Sandi!
Everything about Casa Fortuna was fantastic–from its location and view to the help, food and friendliness from Sandi and Rick every day. Everything is within reach at the villa: town is a 20min walk away and really pleasant for a wander; the beach (fishing, jetskis, boat tours etc) is yours, usually to yourselves; and the building itself is perfectly geared to large groups. The bedrooms were dreamy, pool perfect, kitchen well-stocked and lounge area great for catching up with friends and family. Couldn't recommend the place more.
I have to say that Casa Fortuna was even more than what I expected. It is a beautiful, charming villa right on the beach and we enjoyed every minute staying there. We celebrated our daughter's wedding and it was such a beautiful setting and a perfect place to do it. Rick and Sandy, the caretakers, were amazing. Sandy was invaluable with her help organizing for the big day (flowers, photographer, tables etc). She also made all the food for it, which was incredibly delicious! The home is very roomy and the beds were very comfortable. The deck views from the three bedrooms on the second floor were beautiful. You can eat up there if you wish or down below in the gorgeous garden which has a lot of shade too. I can't say enough as to how beautiful and wonderful this place is. The town also is very close by which we walked to often.
The restaurants there are very good and reasonable compare to the big resort towns.
Swimming at the beach or in the pool at the villa was great too. The home felt very safe and well protected by Rick and Sandy as well as how the grounds are set up to be secure. We can't say enough how wonderful this vacation/celebration event was for all 8 of us who stayed at the villa. It was second to none!!
Thank you Sherry too (the owner) for all your help. You were so patient with me as well as my daughter. We will be back again someday! Elaine
Casa Fortuna was home for four siblings and three spouses Feb 10-24th. Thanks for sharing your charming vacation home with us. We had a simply wonderful time. The house is large and beautiful, well equipped and extremely comfortable. The master bedrooms are awesome and even my bedroom (being the “single” in the group) had a beautiful view of the ocean!! There was plenty of room for all of us to have some private time if necessary. We used the pool every day and the ocean out front offered great swimming for many of us.
We all tended to gather around the round table on the front deck in the mornings and prepared our own breakfasts as we were ready. Then we went for a walk, swam, fished, read books, or got caught up on social media. The 3 guys all brought their guitars so we had lots of music going on. The short walk to the commercial area made it easy to shop daily for what we needed and the market is always a fun place to go on Thursdays. We tried several restaurants and went to Guayabitos for the Friday evening concerts that the hotel association organizes during the month of February.
Rick and Sandi are a sweet couple and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We had Sandi cook for us one night and it was a great experience. We found the kitchen easily accommodated multiple cooks and we bbq'd a couple of nights. There are four choices of eating areas....1 inside, 1 in the back garden, one on the upper deck ocean side and 1 on the lower deck ocean side. The back garden was transformed to a fairyland when Rick turned on the lights in the two large trees and we thoroughly enjoyed tracking the iguanas that live there. Our avid bird watchers were kept busy also.
Security here is second to none!! This was the first vacation I can remember taking where I was not ready to leave it for home! … and I wasn’t the only one that felt that way.
We just returned from our second stay at Casa Fortuna and once again, it was terrific! We spent a week there in 2010 and came back with different family members for another week before Christmas. Rick and Sandra were wonderful hosts, patiently answering our numerous questions, organizing day trips, cooking dinners ( Sandra's chicken enchiladas are delicious!) for us and tending to basically anything we asked for. La Penita is such a charming, authentic mexican town and the people are warm and friendly. We ate at some great restaurants (very inexpensive) and enjoyed the peaceful beach and beautiful home that Casa Fortuna is. If you want to truly enjoy a tranquil Mexico away from the tourist traps and overcrowded resorts, Casa Fortuna is the place to go.
We just finished a family vacation here and it was wonderful. House was great, pool was great and nice swimmable beach right in front. Town was very close to walk to everything. We enjoy embracing the culture of the towns we visit and this was perfect. Very few American tourists, but lots of Mexican tourists on weekends which was fun to see. Highly recommended. Caretakers were lovely and wonderful with our 3 year old.
