Situated in the heart of the historic Shenandoah Valley, Deer Haven offers easy access to unparalleled views of the valley on twenty secluded acres backing up to the National Forest.
Deer Haven is only 100 miles to Washington, DC, thirty minutes to Shenandoah National Park, Bryce and Massanutten Ski resorts, and the spectacular Luray Caverns, and just minutes away from numerous Civil War battlefields, wineries, the Shenandoah River, and National Forest hiking trails.
The home has a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, three baths, and large decks with a grill, fire-pit, and hot tub for relaxing. Two bedrooms are on the second floor - the master bedroom boasts a wall of windows overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and River. The private third bedroom suite is on the ground floor with its own bathroom, sitting room, wet bar, and great views. The living area contains a fire place, comfortable seating, and plenty of games, movies, and books to snuggle up with.
The towns of Edinburg and Woodstock offer great shopping, dining, antiques, coffee shops and art galleries.
If you are looking for a convenient getaway that offers privacy, endless views and tranquility, Deer Haven is the place for you.
**NOTE FOR WINTER GUESTS:
We do occasionally get snow in the area. The road up to the cabin is steep. We will do our best to have the road plowed in the event it does snow however, if the road has packed snow or ice, it will be very difficult to manage without four-wheel or all-wheel drive.
We will work with guests in the event of inclement weather to see that they can reach and enjoy the cabin. That said, guests should monitor the weather and plan on taking a four wheel or all wheel drive vehicle during the winter months in the event there is snow or ice. If the road is impassible by four-wheel vehicle, we will honor a partial or full refund depending on the circumstances.

Friends John, Matt, and Mark traveled the world together before realizing the beautiful Shenandoah Valley was in their back yard. The thought of enjoying a cup of coffee or reading a book on Deer Haven's porches overlooking the valley was too inviting to resist. They decided to purchase Deer Haven together as a convenient weekend getaway from the grind of the city. Now they are opening their home to visitors to share the delightful views and tranquility of Deer Haven.
John Favazzo purchased this house in 2011
The owners chose the Edinburgh area primarily because of its charm, natural beauty and easy access to Washington, DC (just 100 miles). Only 20 miles from Bryce and 30 miles from Massanutten, Luray, and Front Royal, Deer Haven is truly centrally located in the valley.
Outside we have large decks with beautiful views, grill, fire-pit, hot tub, and rocking chairs. Local hiking is endless. Public river access is an easy 10-minutes away. Great swimming, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking options within 20-30 minutes of the home on the South Fork of the river.
Inside the comfortable, spacious, chalet style home is a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, fireplace, piano for your pleasure, and all of the amenities of home.
Cleaning fee and linen set up included in rental fee.
Thank you for the opportunity to spend three wonderful days at Deer Haven last weekend, Oct 15-17. The property, the scenery and the weather were all a perfect combination for our first-time exploration of the Shenandoah Valley. The fall colors were spectacular and the view from Deer Haven was even more impressive than the VRBO description suggested. The 'scenic drive' on 675 to Luray was enjoyed multiple times.
The house was clean, well-kept, well-supplied and very user-friendly. Everything as advertised.
One comment on our selection of Deer Haven --- we wanted a 'pet free' property and found few such in the area. Please know that we (and probably many others) appreciated that aspect of Deer Haven too.
A great time at a great location!!!

We had a super time at Deerhaven. The house was spotless, spacious and well equipped with everything we needed including board games and DVDs. The views over the valley were wonderful, and we loved spending evenings in the hot tub. It felt secluded and away from it all, yet was easy to get to. The owner was very responsive and got back to us quickly on everything. We'd recommend to anyone and hope to come back some day!
Deer Haven was exactly what we were hoping for. A group of friends and I rented this house for a New Years Eve stay, and it was perfect! Tons of space, very comfortable, a very-well equipped kitchen, lots of board games, a roaring fireplace, relaxing hot tub, and lovely trails right outside the front door. The deck off of the living room was our favorite part! The property is also very secluded and private, so we felt like we had our own little piece of the world all to ourselves. John, the owner, is also great! He is both accommodating and very quick to respond. Thanks for such an amazing stay!
We celebrated my fiancé 30th birthday with a getaway weekend. We had a wonderful time at Deer Haven. Great views and lots of hiking near by. We enjoyed the fire pit and hot tub every night. Overall great experience.
We stayed in October 2016 for an extended weekend (5 total people), and Deer Haven was perfect for a quiet, low-maintenance getaway. The house inventory had everything advertised and the space was clean and functional. Everyone enjoyed their sleeping space and the views were great (especially the daily morning deer foraging around the bocce ball court). We used the hot tub, indoor and outdoor fire spots, and all of the kitchen appliances and had no complaints. It was very easy to get to National Forest hikes close by (we did Duncan Knob and Woodstock Tower), and the Walmart was close enough for convenient shopping.
Unfortunately, we didn't try any of the restaurants in town, because it was too easy to relax in the cabin after dark and not want to go out again. The road is a bit tricky but we made it up without any problems in a Corolla and an Accord -- you'd definitely want 4WD in the snow. The host provides a comprehensive welcome packet with great directions (Bing Maps has the right roads, but Google Maps will lead you astray).
Bottom Line: This house was exactly what we needed, and offers a perfect level of seclusion within a very reasonable driving distance of the DC area. Just when I-81 starts putting you to sleep, you're there! We'll be back...
Stayed here with one other couple in October 2016. The place is fantastic. The master bedroom views are stunning, the ground floor suite is lovely too. John has pretty much everything you could possibly want for a weekend. Hot tub on the deck was delightful, great for late afternoon relaxing and star-gazing at night. We had a fire in the outdoor fire pit, grilled on the barbeque, played bocce on the bocce ball court on the grounds (!), had another fire in the living room fire place. Our friend gave us a fantastic little concert on the professional-grade electric piano. The house is at the very end of a long gravel road, and sits on several acres all by itself, so there are no neighbors, you feel totally out in the wilderness except you have all the comforts of home. Definitely you need a 4WD car in the winter though.
My group of friends loved this place! We were a bit concerned driving up to the place, since the terrain was a bit difficult. Once we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised with how nice the house was. The hot tub was probably the best feature! We spent every night gathered there!! The view from the house was also quite beautiful, and at the end of the weekend we all just wanted to stay. Overall, the house was well equipped with anything you could possibly need other than food and personal toiletries. The few things that bothered us were that the coffee maker was a bit finicky and made a mess two days in a row and the dvd player was not working. Granted the lack of a dvd player forced us to really connect with one another and enjoy each other's company. I would definitely recommend this place and will probably make a return soon!
Bryce and Massanutten golf/ski resorts only 20 and 30 miles away, four quality wineries within 10-20 minute drives, Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park over the ridge only 30 minutes away, Shenandoah Caverns nearby, Luray Caverns 30 minutes away, Shenandoah River water access just a few minutes down the road.
The village of Edinburg has a number of quality establishments including a few good, non-chain restaurants, a nice coffee shop , antique stores, a great bakery, and even miniature golfing!
The town of Woodstock, 10 minutes north of Edinburg has all of the above plus a movie theatre, art galleries, sports/entertainment center, hospital, and larger chain stores such as Food Lion, Lowes, Wal-Mart, and a bunch of chain restaurants.
