And now we are delighted to advise that we have a third Rutland luxury thatched holiday cottage. Autumn Cottage, Preston, Near Oakham/Uppingham, Rutland - Property No. 1676481 is an equally charming 2 bedroom property located in the quiet old village of Preston between Oakham & Uppingham.
Martin & Julia Copeman purchased this cottage in 2006
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in this charming cottage, with its tiny library under the stairs, and its beautifully equipped kitchen, and glorious gardens ( front and back ). Martin and Julia allowed us to bring the children here when our Campervan crashed and died before a planned trip to France. We loved it, and probably enjoyed it more than France. It was so well placed for all the local attractions and had everything we needed in the village, including a very good fish and chip shop! would highly recommend for a relaxing, cosy stay.
We stayed at Sticky End for Christmas 2014. We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is warm, well equipped and very comfortable. The open fire and surroundings were a delight. Martin and Julia have thought of everything including a decorated Christmas Tree and decorations and of course Mince Pies! We even had snow on Boxing Day when the cottage and the village looked quite magical.
This was our second visit to Sticky End and it was just as we remembered , cosy and charming with everything needed to make our stay perfect. Martin and Julia were vey helpful and we would definitely recommend Sticky End to others. We visited the local pub and there are such a wide variety of restaurants around that all tastes are catered for and the proximity to Rutland Water is an absolute plus. We will definitely stat at Sticky End again!
We had a wonderful week in this beautiful country cottage. Great place for a romantic getaway, my husband and I really enjoyed our trip. Martin and Julia were very helpful and accommodating and even left us a welcome gift of home-made cake and champagne. We would like to add that the pictures do not do the place justice, Sticky End is a lot bigger than the pictures make it look and the place is full of charm - even had a little library! We particularly enjoyed the amazing fireplace.
My mother and I booked Sticky Cottage based solely upon photos that we saw online. We weren't familiar with Cottesmore, although we had read that the Rutland area was lovely. Turned out to be one of the best travel decisions we've made (and Mom and I go to England together annually), as Sticky End did not disappoint! In fact, it far exceeded our expectations, and the website photos do not begin to do this wonderful little thatched cottage justice. From the moment we walked in and were shown around by Martin, we were smitten. Never have we stayed in accommodations where such a high attention to detail was lavished. The cottage has been refurbished to a very high standard, but still definitely retains tremendous old-world character. Everywhere you look, there are antiques and interesting, unique items to delight the eye. I'm not exaggerating when I say that we spent much of our time in the cottage just wandering around and gazing at all of the beautiful decorative touches. From the little library stocked with wonderful old books to the upstairs bedroom closet that has been filled to the brim with delightful children's toys, the collection of handmade teddy bears, the amazing old advertising signs in the laundry room, the porcelain and china ... oh my! Perfection! If you've seen the movie "The Holiday" with Kate Winslett and Cameron Diaz and fallen in love with the cottage in that film, you will absolutely love Sticky End. I think it's even better! The cottage is an ideal base for touring Rutland, with parking right outside the courtyard. It's warm, cozy, beautiful ... just an absolute delight, and if I could give this cottage 10 stars, it would still not be enough.
Hesitant to write such a glowing review because we don't want to give away our special spot! We always book "our cottage" for Bird Fair in August, and it's a treat to come back every year. Martin & Julia are excellent hosts, they and the cottage are warm and welcoming. The cottage has every convenience. My only complaint is that we hardly have enough free time with working at the Fair to enjoy it all!
Charming market towns Oakham & Uppingham, are the only towns in England's smallest county. Oakham hosts its own summer festival. Melton Mowbray including its renowned Pork Pie shop lies just to the north.
Rutland Water, an important nature reserve, serves as an over-wintering site for wildfowl & an Osprey breeding site. Hire bicycles and cycle round this beauty spot!
Stamford, a beautiful historic town has marvellous shops & on its outskirts boasts the jewel of Burghley House home to the Burghley Horse Trials. Oft a film location including 2005 movie Pride & Prejudice and TV's Middlemarch. The Stamford Shakespeare Festival is held annually at Tolethorpe Hall in an atmospheric open air theatre.
Rockingham Motor Speedway & Rockingham Castle lie just 25 minutes south. Stunning Belvoir Castle (a Da Vinci Code film location) stands splendidly in the Vale of Belvoir just 25 minutes drive to the north.
Historic Cambridge within a 1 hour drive to the south & Lincoln to the north.
