About Martin & Julia Copeman
Sticky End, located in our home village of Cottesmore, was our first thatched holiday cottage and we have been successfully welcoming guests since 2008. In December 2013, we were proud to announce that Sticky End had a perfect sister property, Little Thatch. Little Thatch is a 3 bedroom thatched cottage with a charming cottage garden and is located in the tranquil village of Seaton (Uppingham, 3 miles) just to the south of Rutland Water. Property No. 1171332
Martin & Julia Copeman purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Martin & Julia Copeman chose Cottesmore
Rutland is truly an unspoiled little gem of a county. Multum in Parvo', the apt motto of the County of Rutland translates from Latin as 'Much in Little'... the same is true of all three of our cottage, Autumn Cottage, Sticky End & Little Thatch. Having refurbished our original Grade II Listed Thatched Cottage, Sticky End in Cottesmore & taken bookings since 2006, we have constantly had excellent feedback from guests & many regular repeat bookings. The same is true of our 'chocolate box' thatched cottage, Little Thatch in nearby Seaton, just to the south of Rutland Water and close to Uppingham, which we opened in 2013.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have made all our thatched holiday cottages 'extensions of our own home', positioned at the high end of the holiday let market. Guests always comment very positively regarding how extremely well equipped & furnished they are......'more than just a holiday home'.

Relaxing break for wedding anniversary
We enjoyed a happy break for our Ruby Wedding anniversary. The thatched cottage was perfect - welcoming, spotlessly clean, comfortable and fascinating. We had a fabulous day at Barnsdale gardens and saw ospreys on Rutland Water. We enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful courtyard garden. Our hosts Martin & Julia surprised us with a lovely card, flowers and Prosecco. Thank you!
Thank you Neil & Karin for taking the time to post such lovely feedback and also for being perfect guests! We are delighted that you enjoyed your Ruby Wedding Anniversary stay at Sticky End. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to one one of our Rutland Thatched Cottages before too long.
Warm regards, Martin & Julia
It is as cute as it looks
My mom and I have our first trip to England to visit the area and find some information on our family tree. Sticky End was the perfect place to stay. Not only was the cottage, welcoming, but the town and people made the trip increasingly memorable to us. We could not have had the most perfect place.
Thank you for all the hospitality and we will definitely recommend this to others.
Many thanks for taking the time to post this positive review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and that the trip was a success. Hope to welcome you back in the future. Martin & Julia
Absolutely loved it ....
Sticky End really is a beautiful quintessential thatched English country cottage. The owners obviously love and care for their cottages, enjoy being hosts, and go above and beyond to ensure their guests enjoy a great experience. Sticky End is absolutely spotless, lovely linens, super comfortable beds, antiques, and spacious - lots of space and tons of wardrobes and drawers – plus all modern conveniences that you would ever need. Throw your laundry in the washing machine, sink into the sofa and stoke up the fireplace with the firewood provided, or make a home cooked dinner with the best well stocked kitchen we’ve ever seen, serve in the sun drenched walled garden (or great fish and chips from the village chippie). Even the local pub is a delight – good food and full of friendly locals. Now we’ve found this, we will be going back. Thank you so much Martin and Julia – after 6 weeks on the road we needed this oasis to recuperate and chill.
Many thanks for your very kind comments - such positive feedback makes all the hard work work worthwhile! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back on your return visit to the UK.

perfectly charming country cottage
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in this charming cottage, with its tiny library under the stairs, and its beautifully equipped kitchen, and glorious gardens ( front and back ). Martin and Julia allowed us to bring the children here when our Campervan crashed and died before a planned trip to France. We loved it, and probably enjoyed it more than France. It was so well placed for all the local attractions and had everything we needed in the village, including a very good fish and chip shop! would highly recommend for a relaxing, cosy stay.
Delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we were able to assist in saving your holiday. Thank you for looking after the cottage and also for posting such a good review. You have created a good "Staycation" advertisement! Hope to welcome you back again to the Rutland & Stamford area sometime. Martin & Julia
Well equipped, warm and comfortable cottage
We stayed at Sticky End for Christmas 2014. We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is warm, well equipped and very comfortable. The open fire and surroundings were a delight. Martin and Julia have thought of everything including a decorated Christmas Tree and decorations and of course Mince Pies! We even had snow on Boxing Day when the cottage and the village looked quite magical.
Charming market towns Oakham & Uppingham, are the only towns in England's smallest county. Oakham hosts its own summer festival. Melton Mowbray including its renowned Pork Pie shop lies just to the north.
Rutland Water, an important nature reserve, serves as an over-wintering site for wildfowl & an Osprey breeding site. Hire bicycles and cycle round this beauty spot!
Stamford, a beautiful historic town has marvellous shops & on its outskirts boasts the jewel of Burghley House home to the Burghley Horse Trials. Oft a film location including 2005 movie Pride & Prejudice and TV's Middlemarch.
The Stamford Shakespeare Festival (12 June - 1 September 2018 - The Merchant of Venice, The Merry Wives of Windsor & The School for Scandal) is held annually at Tolethorpe Hall where a picnic on the lawns, a stroll around the lawn, pond and flowerbeds and shrubberies all add to the magic of a visit to Rutland Open Air Theatre.
Rockingham Motor Speedway & Rockingham Castle lie just 25 minutes south. Stunning Belvoir Castle (a Da Vinci Code film location) stands splendidly in the Vale of Belvoir just 25 minutes drive to the north.
Historic Cambridge within a 1 hour drive to the south & Lincoln to the north.
The quite country roads & scenery are perfect for cycling and tandem holidays. Walkers too will not be disappointed with a seletion of excellent rural walks to choose from.
