The small yard is secluded & as restful as a little oasis--perfect for relaxing, listening to the birds & moon gazing.

The vintage 70s kitchen is conveniently located to the screened Summer porch via the bluestone path or through the adjoining den. The kitchen's high-top cafe table is an inviting place to sit & chat. In winter months, the porch is enclosed to create a sauna-like experience on warm, sunny days. (the screened porch is unheated)

The cottage has two flat-screen televisions with an ultimate FIOS package to help keep everyone informed & entertained. There is a DVD player as well.

Invite friends to enjoy a cocktail & some conversation from the screened porch while contemplating the day's activities. There is ample space to hold a garden party too, with convenient backyard access. To keep the cook in the conversation, a gas grill can be wheeled from under the River Birch shade tree gathering place to the central outdoor activities. A garden umbrella creates a cozy atmosphere.

Overlooking expansive perennial gardens designed using Feng Shui principles & made Chesapeake Bay - friendly through a 'grass to garden' application, you will quickly feel stress melt away & a sense of contentment pervade your senses. The presence of a cottage dragon deems the property as especially protected..

During colder weather, cuddle outside around the wood-burning fire pit & enjoy toasting marshmallows, being 'one' with nature, the stars & the sounds of our bustling maritime city. The screened porch has heavy see-through vinyl applied over screens in winter to help make the porch 3-season friendly. City vitality is marked by boat horns, cheering voices during Wednesday night regattas & the 'ding ding' of the Spa Creek drawbridge as sailboats pass through to the Chesapeake Bay. If you wake early enough you will hear the 'hut, hut' of the Mid-Shipmen following reville at the Naval Academy.

Enjoying the hospitality of others while traveling around the world & also former owner of the Philadelphia Bed & Breakfast Reservation Service, the owner has a passion for welcoming guests to Eastport & Annapolis. Her knowledge of Maryland's Capital City makes you feel at home immediately.

The cottage decor includes an eclectic collection of primitive furniture, unique collectibles & garden art that represent her love of cultures & their peoples.

Tucked under the cozy eaves, the 2nd floor, private romantic escape is fit for any Master. Wiggle your toes on the hand-hooked rug & float like a cloud on the down duvet. Rock away your stress & view the moon & stars through the skylight & enjoy the breeze from the gable window dreaming your dreamiest dreams. There is a flat-screen television, dressing room with ample closet space & adjoining makeup nook, too.

From the first floor den, a serene view of the perennial gardens can be seen relaxing from the extra-thick queen-size Futon . The den transforms from a cozy sleeping area to a daytime activity space. A library is housed in the primitive green milk-paint book case, purchased in Utah at Robert Redford's Sundance Music Festival. Cuddle up with a good book or watch a DVD, listen to music or enjoy FIOS HD on a flatscreen TV! Board games and umbrellas are in the closet.

A double pull-out sofa in the studio becomes private for sleeping. Two comfortable Ottoman rollaway beds are avail for sleeping, even on the screened 3-season porch when weather permits. Plush mattress toppers & cotton linens make these beds cozy & comfortable.

About Yarrow

Hanging on the living room wall is a hand-embroidered vintage sampler with the quotation of 'Let me live by the side of the road & be a friend to man.'

The sampler depicts my love of hosting travelers. As the former owner of the Philadelphia B&B Reservation Service & co-author of The American Bed & Breakfast Cookbook, welcoming visitors is a real pleasure for me & simply the core of my being. I love to travel & enjoy making travel easy & fun for others.

Living in this dynamic City by the Chesapeake Bay is refreshing & invigorating.

The cottage has good bones & peaceful land. It is named 'Chi Rising,' which describes its positive energy, welcoming presence & solid, grounded feeling.

Renovating Chi Rising inside & out presented the challenge of removing old materials & updating applications of paint, flooring & comfort amenities like ceiling fans & additional lighting. When removing two old flooring layers in the kitchen, I was rewarded with the pleasant surprise of 12' knotty pine plank floor boards, that add authentic charm to the cottage.

The screened 3-season porch seats 10 for dinner. You can relax there & take a nap too, all while you become one with the beautiful gardens.

Practicing 'green' while establishing perennial theme gardens with year-round seasonal color, texture & plants native to Maryland was a joy. Feng Shui principles & a 'grass to garden' design concept created harmony & a garden certified as 'Bay-Friendly' by the Maryland Cooperative Extension Office & as a National Wildlife Federation refuge.

In the secluded backyard garden you can read a book, play bocce ball or contemplate your next adventure around town. There is room to practice yoga, toss a Nerf ball, & entertain friends & family. Oh & we're a short 10 minute walk to restaurant row & USNA & a 15 minute car ride to a vast sandy beach on the Chesapeake Bay!

Visit & use all the spaces at Chi Rising. It is your home while you are here. Enjoy Eastport, downtown Annapolis & all that awaits.

Why Yarrow chose Maryland

Living in the heart of Eastport provides a stimulating lifestyle of cultural neighborhoods, bustling business enterprises & creative artisans & entrepreneurs. One word sums it up -- Location! All you need is within walking distance. Get in touch with the historic Maritime industry, get out on the Bay & taste a blue crab or two on an open deck somewhere on the water! This is what living is all about!

Oh, & a very special adventure is a sunset sail on the Woodwinds-catch it at the Marriott back deck--be sure to reserve your spot. Visiting Annapolis during winter months? Bundle up & trek out to the back yard fire pit --warm blankets, wood & BBQ forks are provided. Walk to the Chart House or Carroll's Creek --each has a great bar with a floor-to ceiling fireplace overlooking the harbor -- get there early to get a seat!

The vibe of life's excitement abounds in Maryland's Capital City! Enriched by the U.S. Naval Academy, St. John's College, several sailing schools, museums, artisan dens and diverse restaurants & pubs. Visit us and experience our spirit, our passion and all we have to offer here on the Chesapeake Bay!

This is a City-inspected property.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage is a great gathering place for friends. And, we love dogs! A fenced yard offers unbridled running room.

Enjoy a cup of joe, host a graduation or wedding celebration or have a dinner party on the screened porch while watching cardinals, robins & squirrels going about their daily rituals of bathing & eating. Quite enjoyable.

The 3-season screened porch beckons an afternoon nap & evokes memories & dreams of Key West. There is a blender available to whiz up your favorite concoction to help you hang on, too. And, there is seating for 10 for dinner!

The cottage is partially handicapped accessible via two steps to the ground floor level 3-season screened porch. This cottage has a secluded yard that is fenced. When you arrive, park in front of the cottage & enter by walking through the lush cottage garden along the bluestone path & around to the 3-season screened porch. There you can stash your luggage, grab a beverage & unpack at your convenience.

Unique to this cottage is charm! It is cozy, easy to live in & evokes relaxation. The gardens are 360 degrees around, so you can follow the sun or the moon & find a spot to gaze away. Inside, the cottage is filled with light & gentle, seasonal breezes that blow through wide windows. The cottage is a Sears & Roebuck-type model & was build in 1950. I renovated it myself & preserved the quaintness that adds to the charm. Furnishing are an eclectic collection gathered from antique barns & world-wide straw markets & antique curio shops. Juxtaposed to these is a traditional reproduction pine dining room table with hand-hewn spindle-back chairs. The cottage has all the modern trappings like flat screen televisions, f-a-s-t free wifi, & an extreme FIOS package with every channel. Did I mention FREE parking? Here the living is easy & fun. Book your visit with us and you will see!

A calm oasis within walking distance to action

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in Annapolis and were glad to have chosen Chi Rising as our rental property. Yarrow is generous with staples and amenities and welcomes tenants into a space that offers beauty and comfort, quiet relaxation and a place to spread out in many ways. The screened-in back porch soon became our favorite place to read, relax, study brochures and maps, and to eat our meals as the song birds serenaded us or splashed in the bird bath. We walked to excellent Eastport restaurants. The drawbridge leading into historic Annapolis is an enjoyable short walk away. We appreciated being able to leave the car in off-street parking at Chi Rising and avoid traffic and parking concerns. Thank you, Yarrow, for offering so much to us during our stay.

Owner's Response: Holidays, reunions, games and family vacations in Annapolis area? Stow your keys! We have you covered here at the cottage. You can walk or call Chariots of Annapolis, EZ Cruiser or the Water Taxi to get you around Eastport or the Historic District and out West Street to the Arts & Entertainment District and USNA Stadium. Now is that fun or what? Of course, you can drive and park in any of the City parking garages, too. Have it your way AND create a great day for yourself! We just want you to have fun while you are staying here at the cottage.

Very cosy and pet friendly

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our dog Simba stayed at this cottage for 6 weeks while waiting to get a permanent house. This house is great and both front and back yard is cosy and nice. The neighbors are very kind and there's not a lot of traffic around the cottage. The size of the cottage fitted us well and Yarrow was the best host ever. She answered very quickly our questions and showed a hospitality of higher class, she is very nice and very helpful.

You can easily walk to downtown Annapolis or enjoy Eastport's nice areas and restaurants.

Owner's Response: You guys & Simba are the best guests! I loved seeing him romp around the yard carrying sticks. So glad you enjoyed your stay & walking to Vin 909 for the unique experience & wonderful tapas. The cottage is located conveniently for events, water sports, historical musing, art shows & entertainment of vast variety. Guests enjoy the two rooms that convert from sleeping to sitting areas-- adds conversation areas. Spring, Summer & Fall...the screened porch is THE place to enjoy. Come visit us! Love to host you.

Adorable, pet friendly, cozy cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Chi Rising is nestled in a whimsical garden located in Eastport, just 1.3 miles away from the Ego Alley waterfront in Annapolis. Fully fenced and private it was a great place for me and my husband and our two dogs to use as a home base for our week-long visit to our daughter and her hubby in Annapolis, the dogs thought they owned the place lol. The neighborhood is nice and the cottage has its own parking! The Owner, Yarrow is friendly and very helpful, the bed is comfortable and the living areas are very pleasant, especially the screened in porch in the back. There are a lot of little seating areas throughout the garden, along with a chiminea clay fireplace that Yarrow was kind enough to supply wood and a pressed log for. We have friends in the area and they stopped over for a little dinner, and we all sat around in the back yard around the fire enjoying the garden. We walked in to Annapolis every day and also to a fabulous baker, Baker & Co., just a few blocks from the cottage. The Welcome Basket filled with treats was a nice touch. Thanks Yarrow! #2015BLUERIDGEPARKWAYCRAWL

Owner's Response: Family & friend gatherings are especially delightful at this cottage. As mentioned, the back yard, screened porch, fire pit & yard games can fill many hours with joyful fun. The garden is secluded & quiet. The Fall season in Annapolis is worth a visit! The museums get on board with historical & seasonal events, creating excitement for all interests. And, the outdoor cafes are still open, providing great spots for people-watching. December holidays & New Year's Eve are hopping with many cold-weather activities throughout the City-- all within just a short walk. The Lighted Boat Parade in early December is a "must." Arrange a pre-parade meal, walk to the Spa Creek bridge to watch the parade of lighted boats & then gather back at the cottage for dessert & coffee. Blankets are provided for around the fire pit. Parade winners are announced via the City website at the conclusion of the parade. Repeat for New Year's Eve! Sounds like a good plan. And, fun for all ages!

"3-Bedroom" in Annapolis

  • 3 of 5

I would have given a higher rating if some additional details had been included in the description. The house itself is cute and cozy but would recommend it for a couple or young family. Our host was wonderful and accommodating, and very easy to get in touch with. The house is billed as a 3-bedroom but is actually a 1-bedroom with uncomfortable sleeper sofas/futons in two of the downstairs rooms. In addition, the "spa bathroom" was filled with spiders, cobwebs and dirty corners. It was just a large shower and you have to walk through the backyard to a separate building. It did not feel very spa-like walking back and forth in the drizzle.

Owner's Response: The on-line description of the cottage was expanded earlier this year at the suggestion of a guest. Descriptions sometimes become convoluted when guests are cyber-shopping several vacation rentals at the same time. Reading & comparing all those descriptions can get confusing real fast. *** The Charming Vintage Cottage description clearly describes the sleeping arrangements & the adjacent spa-like bath. There are some people, not all, who need special mattresses to be comfortable, so for sure they should not plan to sleep on bedding types known not to fit their needs. *** I always chat about the arrangements beforehand; however, sometimes guests will choose to settle on a location because of price & availability. *** The carriage house, built in 2015, is fresh & inviting & is home to Urban Studio, a unique space created for uplifting classes, workshops & presentations. The spa-like bath located in the Carriage House, just steps away from the deck, is for cottage guest use only. The bathroom has teak accessorizes, high-end fixtures, comfort level toilet, plush towels, optional music, floor-to ceiling 12" hand-made ceramic tiles & a heated floor--all amenities associated with spa baths around the world. *** So glad to see that your group enjoyed the Welcome Basket of snacks & beverages & the complimentary toiletry samples provided as a courtesy. *** I was pleased to accommodate your request for a 3-hour early arrival time. And, the cleaning service was gracious enough to be flexible & clean very early in the morning to accommodate your travel arrangements. *** Annapolis is a beautiful capital city. We hope you enjoyed all her history & happenings.

Not the right fit

  • 2 of 5

The location was convenient to many restaurants and shops. We had to drive through, what seemed like the projects, to get there. This concerned me. However, I did feel safe throughout our stay. The accommodations were nice but they did not fit our group well. We had 7 adults; 3 couples and 1 single. There is only one bed in one semi private room. The other two couples had to sleep on futons in community areas of the house. The futons were extremely hard. Luckily for us, after nights of partying, we were not bothered by it. The single person had to sleep on a "trundle bed" in the one bedroom. This bed was also very uncomfortable. There is one bathroom in the house. The second bathroom is located in the backyard in a separate garage type building. The bathroom outside the house was nice, just inconvenient to walk to. Overall, the house was nice, but not a great fit for 7 adults. I would recommend this rental for parents with small children or young adults who don't mind the sleeping arrangements.

Owner's Response: For all groups over four, I am sure to have at least one conversation regarding the sleeping arrangements in order to be sure guests understand the exact arrangements. In this case the booking guest & I did have the "sleeping arrangement" conversation & also an email exchange to this regard prior to the booking. Likely, what was the right fit for this group was the price & availability & that they had a wedding to attend on a very busy weekend in Annapolis -- since this was the weekend for the opening season of USNA football & Annapolis gets booked fully! Please note: There are now 2" "comfort fit" mattress toppers on the futon & the pull-out sofa. When reading the cottage description that the 2nd floor Master Queen bedroom is completely private; the first floor den with a Queen futon & the studio with a double pull out Ethan Allen sofa bed each are made private for sleeping and convert to useable daytime sitting rooms.
