A 250 year old farmhouse set in over over five acres of land, an oasis of peace and privacy in unspoilt countryside, on the outskirts of the sleepy, medieval village of Segur-Le-Chateau nestling on the banks of the Auvezere. An idyllic setting offering spacious, comfortable accommodation, secluded gardens and your own private pool for boisterous fun and games with your family or relaxation with your latest novel. An ideal spot to venture east into Correze, a quiet undiscovered land of forests, hills and secret valleys and west to rivers, caves and the familiar beauty of the Dordogne.

Further details: The farmhouse has a large kitchen / living room, with exposed oak beamed ceiling. Kitchen area fitted with oak fronted units, gas hob, electric oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle and toaster, table to seat 6, tiled floor; the living area with inglenook fireplace, oak floor, satelitte TV, radio and comfortable seating. There is a bathroom downstairs with toilet, basin and shower and a Dining room to seat 6 with oak floor, beamed ceiling and dark oak furniture. One double bedroom downstairs and staircase to first floor double bedroom, twin bedded room, single bedroom and bathroom with toilet and shower, all with exposed oak beamed ceilings. Travel cot available.

Outdoor facilities: The swimming pool, 10 x 5 metres (1m at shallow end sloping to 2m at the deep end), patio, lawn and pergola, to the rear of the house, is secure within a large fenced and hedged area, chairs, loungers and table provided. The pool area is enclosed and also has a security cover for the safety of our guests.

There is a further patio surrounded by bushes and vines at the side of the house, also with garden furniture. There is a brick BBQ, volleyball and badminton nets, plus table tennis available for your use. The lawns between the house and pool area are planted with bushes and fruit trees and the front and side of the farmhouse has lawns with ample space for football etc. The grounds are surrounded and sheltered by unspoilt countryside creating a haven of tranquility.

Local attractions: Segur-le-Chateau is a medieval town of outstanding beauty and historical interest. There are charming restaurants and a cafe which offer eating in or out on the green under the tall and mature trees on the edge of the River Auvezere.

Lubersac, Arnac Pompadour and St. Yrieix are market towns, on the route of Richard the Lionheart, all within 15 minutes drive with market days, shops, supermarkets with intimate bars and restaurants. Limoges, Perigueux and Brive are large towns full of historical interest, restaurants, shops, bars and golf courses all within one hours drive. The National Anglo-Arab Stud, immaculate racecourse with racing, dressage, show jumping and cross-country and many other equine based events held at Arnac Pompadour every weekend, during July, August and September. A must to visit is Rocamadour, Collonges la Rouge, Roc St Christophe, Hautefort Chateau, the famous Lascoux caves and the Dordogne river valley with its many diverse attractions.

Fantastic house and grounds.

We returned from Le Grangeau a week ago after a fantastic holiday. The house was perfect, very well appointed. The grounds exceeded our expectations, enabling us to have great fun playing a variety of sports. The pool was beautiful, wonderfully maintained by Mark each morning. It provided hours of fun for everyone.

The location of the house was excellent, being only a ten minute walk from the medieval town of Segur le Chateau. We often strolled down to the village which had bars and restaurants and a surprising number of activities in the week we were there.

Many thanks to Mark and Maggie for making us so welcome.

Splendid family retreat!

Just returned from a wonderful week at Le Grangeau with family ranging from kids to grandparents, which this accommodation is perfect for. Nanny and Pop stayed in the ground floor double bedroom with shower room close by and we took over the top floor with ample space for all and own shower room.

During our stay the weather was fantastic and we did not need to venture into the vast dining room as the BBQ was in use every night apart from our visits to the Village were diner at La Part des Anges is a must! (Ask Mark to book it for you).

Normally the TV is turned off during family holidays, but being the height of the Rio Olympics it was a real treat to be able to access British TV via satellite and enjoy the highlights. Also a useful touch was seeing British plugs as well as European! The Kitchen was well equipped with everything you need and anything else Mark and Maggie were there to supply.

Outside was amazing and a big hit with everyone. We could have spent the whole week within the grounds as they are well maintained and Mark cleans the pool every morning. The kids were spoilt with choice ranging from the pool, badminton, ping pong, football, pool volleyball and many more games. The whole area is tranquil, disrupted only by the screaming kids and giggling adults having fun; everything a holiday should be.

There was plenty of sightseeing and activities ranging from Waterfalls at Gimel Les Cascades; Les Jardins de Colette with a magnificent maze that kept everyone occupied for at least an hour; Monday evening farmers market/BBQ with live band where we were lucky enough to have visited when they had fireworks; canoeing on the Dordogne and at Le Brantome and the nearby Lidos.

Excellently equipped gite in a beautiful location

I stayed in the gite with some friends last month and had a wonderful time! Mark and Maggie made sure that everything that we could have possibly needed was at our fingertips; extra blankets, dish washer tablets, ironing board and, of course, lilos for the pool.

The village was around 10 minutes away on foot, and had the most picturesque green by the river where the whole village congregates for a meal and music on Monday evenings. I had grilled trout and it was delicious!

The whole week was blissful, I'd most definitely recommend!

Charming old house in a great location

We stayed a week in this fantastic house - which I think looks bigger in real life than in the pictures - and really had a great time. Our 3 boys (7, 9 and 11 years old) loved to pool and other facilities. With table tennis, badminton net and football goals on top of an excellent pool (cleaned every day) they barely left the house over the whole week and there are tons of other toys/games there for them to use too. Mark and Maggie could not have been more accommodating and friendly. They stay on site but are really non-intrusive - totally sympathetic to our desire for a lazy, quiet holiday to ourselves. They were also really helpful with some good advice - as they suggested, if you stay here you HAVE to take in the weekly market in the village which is only 5-10 minutes walk away. It's a great way to spend a relaxing evening with great food and live music.

The house itself is spacious and very well-equipped with all you would need for cooking/cleaning/living there for a week. The excellent barbeque was a particular hit too. The garden is really private - you don't see anyone else at all and the road nearby is really low on traffic volume. The main background noise you hear is either animals or farm traffic in the fields nearby.

We absolutely loved it!

Beautiful property in a wonderful setting

We have just returned from a wonderful week in 'Le Grangeau'. Mark and Marguerite were so welcoming and the property is beautiful in a wonderful setting. The grounds are stunning and the pool area is enclosed by hedges and very private. We were 5 in total. The property is spacious with a downstairs bedroom and shower room which was ideal for Mum as she didn't have to worry about the stairs. The gite is located just outside the beautiful medieval village of Segur le Chateau which is within a comfortable walking distance (10 minutes). During our stay we visited Oradour, Gimal les Cascades and Rouffiac, an outdoor centre with wake boarding and a 'Go Ape' style activity - great fun! Our stay went much too quickly. We would certainly recommend 'Le Grangeau' . Thank you Mark and Marguerite for a lovely week.

Yes Le Grangeau has a lot to offer and is well appointed for anyone who would rather not climb stairs with an easily accessed downstairs double bedroom and shower. Lots to do and see around the area for all ages, or just simply sitting by the pool reading a book in your own privacy. Segur le Chateau is officially designated one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages' in France. It's medieval architecture and delightful village green, cafe and restaurants give any visitor a real taste of France at it's best. Farmers market is held every Monday evening during July and August where you can buy fresh local produce, have it barbacued and eat alongside locals and visitors alike whilst listening to live music - all set beside the beautiful river which encompasses Segur. There are many local attractions, walking, fishing, horse riding, swimming etc and not far away you can canoe, play golf, teleski and many more. The cities of Brive, Limoges, famous for it's porcelain, and Perigueux offer wonderful cathedrals, medival architecture and many wonderful and unique shops. The famous Lascaux caves alongside many others, Oradour sur Glane, Sarlat, Rocamadour and Collonges la Rouge are all an easy drive. Le Grangeau is an easy 65 min drive from Limoges Airport. Car hire is available at the airport.

Golf: There is a superb 9-hole golf course, clubhouse, restaurant with practice range within half an hours dirve.

For a longer booking during winter months, rates are negotiable. For example up to 50% off for a period of three months or longer.
