Activities by Villa Elena
One nights stay here at Villa Elena and you'll realize why so many people come from all over the world to stay on the famed islands of Sanibel and Captiva, known world-wide for their wonderful beaches and excellent shelling. Captiva has some of the best fishing in the world. A number of tournaments are offered in the area. Tarpon, snook, red fish, snapper, and grouper are caught in local waters. Captiva and Sanibel Islands are also among the best bird watching areas in the country. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge is just a few miles away.
We vacationed in Captiva before and fell in love with the overall ease and simplicity to the Island. When we came back a second time, we knew we wanted to buy and share the opportunity that we have so enjoyed.
The simplicity and ease of Captiva is worth noting. Everything is within walking distance, if you're not into walking, there are bike rentals avaialble as well. When you go to the beach, all activities are available within a short walk. We have enjoyed nightly walks on the beach watching the sun dip beneath the depths of the ocean followed by ice cream cones at La-Tee-Da's. The marine life is amazing to say the least We have experienced how mollusks move, to seeing big crabs in conch shells, dolphins, stingrays, jellyfish, and even manatees. Where else can you go in the lower 50 states and encounter all this wonderful marine life in one day!
I wanted to let you know that we loved your house in Captiva! It was perfect for our family and we all enjoyed the room to the side. It was my reading room, my son-in-laws nap room, my granddaughter's play room. You have a lovely house!
The house is wonderful! Nice big bedrooms with private bathrooms. Large table for all to enjoy dinner together. The screened in porch with a fireplace is a huge plus! The private pool is so peaceful. Of course, the best part is the private access to the beach. Thats not it... It also has private access to the bay with a dock that was great for fishing!! There is not a detail left out of this house. There is even a foot-washing station at the back door, so each day after our beach trip, we were able to easily wash our feet of sand! this just shows the attention to detail the home has. We will not stay anywhere else on the island other than this emaculate, well maintained, perfect house!!!
We had a great time at Villa Elena. The house is all on one floor and has many places to sit and converse with others, or be by yourself. The shower was lovely and large. The screened porch was the place we spent most of our time. What a wonderful place to be at all times of the day and night. We ate our meals there, and played games at night. The kids chased lizards in the closed courtyard.
The kitchen has everything you could need and it is all really solid and top notch items.Cindy has really thought of everything that someone would need while they are there, and has stocked the kitchen with it.The kitchen is a nice size, and although it isn't exactly a completely open floor plan, you are not cut off from any area of the house. You can talk to everyone , and be part of the festivities!
The short walk to the beach was wonderful for everyone, and having a wagon that has chairs and toys, and umbrellas made it easy to take everything with you. You will build up your muscles dragging it through the sand. Luckily, it is a very short distance over the sand, over the road was easy. The beach is beautiful and wide, and the kids loved playing in the waves and picking up shells.
We walked up to the resort just up the road, and we had fun watching the hermit crab races, and appetizers that were great. It is a short walk and you can go on either the road or beach, either way was an easy stroll. Town is close if you need something, although traffic and parking was a bit tough. It was spring break when we were there though, so we probably saw it at its worst. We never had trouble crossing the road from the house to the beach.
The pool was great to have. We spent time there in the afternoon when the sun was too hot, and the umbrellas shades a part of the pool so the kids could swim and not have to worry about burning.
We saw lots of birds, and even saw manatees and an seahorse at the boat dock.
I can't say enough good things about Cindy as an owner. She was responsive to my emails very promptly, and even sent me photos of the driveway to the house so I could see what it looked like when I had trouble visualizing it from google maps. She didn't seem to be annoyed at my many ( ! ) questions, sent in many emails!
We enjoyed our stay at Villa Elena and would recommend it to anyone. We can't wait to go back!!
My family of 8 had a wonderful time at Villa Elena. The home is beautiful, laid out well, well-stocked with supplies, towels and the kitchen has everything you'll need. It's a short walk to the beach and the host provides beach chairs and a wagon to get stuff there. The pool is a great place for cooling off and relaxing. The lanai is the best room of the house. We ate lunch and dinner there every day. It is great also for reading, game playing and just hanging out. We will definitely go back to Villa Elena. Location is great too.
This house was in a perfect location -- not too close to the "busy" downtown but close enough to walk. (1.25 miles on the beach to the stop sign in center of town.) It's also right next to a resort with the two best -- and secret to many -- restaurants on the island. We were a short walk (two houses) from the beach. The pool was great. We build a fire on a colder evening and cooked breakfasts & lunches easily in the kitchen. One note: we rent in other areas of the country and often there are condiments and misc items like aluminum foil or sandwich bags to use. This property -- and I think many Florida properties -- come with cooking tools, but none of those extra misc items. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and would recommend the property to our friends.
First, the arrival instructions were incorrect: the house was not on the left, and there was no sign for Villa Elena, which made it almost impossible to find the property at 10 PM. We finally got help from the 1-800 number and found the property at 11. It's a very nice house and location, but future visitors should know that the DVD equipment does not play Blu-ray, there was only enough detergent for 2 washes, and there are no stores close by. The traffic in Sanibel ranged from very busy to a virtual standstill after 2 PM. The beach made up for a lot: it was nearly deserted (partly due to the red tide--makes you cough a lot) and had lots of shells, some very nicely preserved. Also, visitors should know that the pool is set at a very cool 67 degrees, not warm enough for my body. Overall, a good, but not great value for the money.
I rented villa Elena to spend one week escaping winter in Switzerland, with my two sons and their girlfriends. The house was perfect for us with the three large bedrooms and the three bathrooms. We had lots of fun traveling and visiting the beautiful Southwest gulf coast, lay down on the lovely beach watching birds and dolphins. Due to the busy period of the year we could not enjoy the restaurants because everything was booked out but we had some wonderful and delicious meat and fish BBQ in the patio. We had a great day with the boat rented next door, stopping in the lovely beaches and fishing delicious fish that we cooked the same evening. Great holiday
We enjoy eating at the Bubble Room and booking our deep-sea expeditions at Tween Waters. Ask for Jimmy, he is a fantastic guide. You can also book a shelling excursion at Tween WatersJ as well and they can take you to a secluded beach for shelling. While you are here for your visit, take a drive to the Sanibel Marina and take the Sanibel Thriller ride. It's a high speed pontoon boat that takes you around to see the sights of both Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Have your cameras ready to snap photos of the dophins that come and play in the waves of the boat. I can't forget the manatees and the sea turtles too! The Shell Museum is a must see with all the wonderful kinds of shells found throughout the world. They will send your kids on a hunt to find certain shells, once they have completed their search, they will be rewarded by the hostess! The night life on Andi Rossi lane is great. Great food, fun, and atmosphere and don't forget to include a sunset stroll on the beach!
