Sugarloaf Dairy, Dungog

Bedrooms 3
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Welcome to Sugarloaf Dairy, circa 1906 - an eclectic mix of vintage style with contemporary comforts.

Sugarloaf Dairy is the perfect escape, a character-filled quintessential timber weatherboard farmhouse steeped in history and situated in a peaceful Valley only 5kms from historic Dungog. Whilst staying at the dairy you have access to the surrounding gardens, orchards and paddocks. Enjoy the stunning views from the wrap-around veranda or take a stroll through the beautiful gardens down to the freshwater creek. Perfect for entertaining with Ilve stove and large farmhouse table, or bbq in the shady pergola.

The interior is simple but stylish, whitewashed walls, vintage furniture, stainless steel appliances, organic cotton bedlinen and towels. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 with queen beds, the 3rd with two single beds that can be joined to make a queen.

Please note there is only 1 bathroom.

There is a woodburning combustion heater plus a gas fire for colder evenings, or reverse cycle airconditioning for summer.

A stockyard and paddocks are available for guests who wish to bring their own horses, well behaved dogs are also welcome but please contact us for conditions. Dogs are charged at $20 per dog, per visit.

The century old dairy was decommissioned many years ago however still takes pride of position alongside the restored farmhouse.

Eco-friendly and Organic

Our aim is to be as environmentally friendly as possible, without compromising on comfort. We try to avoid using any chemicals or pesticides on the property, so the orchard fruit is deliciously chemical free. Earth friendly cleaning products are used in the house and organic shampoos, conditioners, soap and skin care products are provided for guests.

The kitchen is well stocked with basic ingredients and there are some excellent shopping facilities in Dungog, or we can direct guests to a website where they can order local organic produce and have it delivered for a small charge.

Beautiful and peaceful home and surrounding countryside

  • 5 of 5

As always staying in Dungog was a delight. The home is well stocked with food and bathroom staples, the fireplace warm and the beds very comfy. Fresh eggs from the chickens are a bonus and there are gorgeous views from every room in the home. Walking around the surrounding countryside is wonderful, and sitting with a cup of tea in the gardens very relaxing.

A really beautiful authentic old cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Sugarloaf Dairy was everything we dreamed of for a stay in a peaceful, character filled rural cottage. The home is beautifully presented with lots of authentic touches. We loved the verandah for views of the mist rolling over the hills, cows, birds, garden lights and much more. Very close to town and everything you could wish for including a modern kitchen and comfy beds. It was hard to leave.

Stunning,beautifully designed farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at sugarloaf with two boys who loved mountain biking, swimming in creeks, feeding horses and tending to chooks! We played lawn bowls, cricket and loved the games(especially twister and chess) and the awesome video library for when we just wanted to chill. The beds are 5star luxury as is everything else is in this very chic, beautifully appointed home! I loved the kitchen ,the fireplace and gorgeous wrap around deck for reading with a glass of wine as the sun set.I cannot recommend Sugarloaf Dairy highly enough-our 5 days there were an absolute dream.Thank you to the very generous Ashley for her local tips on food and activities and for her wonderful welcome of our two dogs.We will definitely be back !!!

Family Favourite

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Sugarloaf Dairy and it is still as lovely as our first visit two years ago. The house is beautifully decorated and has everything that you need. The beds are comfy, the kitchen has all the essentials and it is just so peaceful sitting on the verandah - reading, talking and watching the cows pass by. Its only a 5 min drive to town, so easy to pick up any food from the supermarket. The pizza oven was a great addition. I love the little touches, like the flowers picked from the garden and placed in the rooms. It feels so homely. Thank you Ashley.

This property isn't suitable for children

  • 1 of 5

This property isn't suitable for children and the owner made us feel very uncomfortable.

Owner's Response: Dear Ms Brun, thank you for your comments, although I'm a bit perplexed as I have neither met you or spoken to you on the phone. I understand that you were upset at the additional cleaning charge, but as I explained before, dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms, on the beds or on the lounge, especially wet, muddy ones. I have taken on board your comment that my farm isn't suitable for children, and I am doing everything possible to remove all hazards. Many thanks.

Perfect weekend away

  • 5 of 5

Sugarloaf Dairy is the perfect getaway for family or friends. Located only a short distance from Dungog the house is perfectly appointed with all the comforts you need for a relaxing stay. We visited with teenage girls who loved checking for eggs, feeding the horses or checking out the neighbor's bulls. Thanks to Ash for all of her pointers as to places to eat in town. Didn't disappoint. We will definitely be back.
