This apartment, only steps from the Pope's Palace and the Cloister of Saint Pierre, is in the perfect location in Avignon. Only a few minutes walk to Les Halle for a wonderful market experience and beautiful produce, authentic Provençal products and prepared foods. It is easy to eat in the apartment or walk to any of the restaurants nearby. Francis has provided a very helpful booklet of information including favorite restaurants, local sights, and nearby Luberon villages with their market days. The apartment is very clean, has everything a person needs for the kitchen, the bath and the bedroom. The beds are very comfortable, including the sofa bed. The CD player with Madeleine Peyroux and some jazz greats was a very nice touch. There are three flights of stairs, but my sister and I (ages 56 and 66), did not find them to be a problem.
The best part is Francis, himself. He met us at the apartment just three minutes after we called him. He showed us all the ropes and answered all of our questions in a very patient manner. We had a problem with a window (the problem was us, not the window) and he was there to help within three minutes! He booked our train tickets for our trip from Italy to Avignon and emailed them to us. When we left Avignon, Francis drove us to the TGV and helped us rent a car. He is a true gentleman, warm, and personable. Francis and his apartment will make your stay in Avignon as perfect as it can be. I can not recommend him and the apartment highly enough!
Please trust me when I tell you that you need look no further for a place to stay in Avignon. I will tell you why but first I must tell you about the owner, Francis. Upon arrival in Avignon we realized that we had lost our Passports. We told Francis our problem and he was so helpful. He printed the forms we needed at home and brought them along with train tickets he picked up at the station to travel to Marseilles the next morning to get temporary Passports. His calm and reassuring manner went a long way toward helping us through this problem. The apartment is on the 3rd (American counting) floor of an old building. We are in our 60's and the first few times we climbed it was hard, as the week went on it became easier and easier. The apartment itself was very clean, modern and comfortable. Having the two twin beds pushed together was a huge plus for us. We are not comfortable on a Queen and that's what you find the most often in Europe. We were always happy to return here after a long day of sightseeing. It has everything you could need to enjoy your stay. If you want to cook in, (visit Les Halles first, a short walk) everything you might need is there. The grocery is on the other side of the Les Halles plaza. Francis gives you a wonderful guide for touring and restaurant recommendations. The boulangerie (bakery) is a right turn out the front door, a left turn and about 2 blocks ahead on your left. In this little square are 3 other restaurants. The train station is an easy 20-25 minute walk. Everything you want to visit in Avignon is an easy walk from this wonderful, exceptionally clean apartment. If we are ever fortunate enough to return to Avignon I would happily stay in Francis' apartment.
My wife and I are in our late 60’s and rented this apartment for five nights in. We loved it. It was spacious, very clean and comfortable. It is nicely decorated and quit, but in a fantastic location. We were minutes from the Place of the Popes, bakeries, numerous restaurants, and the “LesHalles” the covered food and produce market. This market has a number of vendors that sell “prepared food” if you decide not to cook. Just pop them in the micro. The apartment is located on the second floor of a very secure building and a safe neighborhood. The train and bus station were about a 15-20 minute walk away if you decide to tour some surrounding villages and towns. You could certainly walk to the major historical sites in Avignon. The kitchen was well equipped to “cook in”, the bed very comfortable and there was a great washing machine. There was a good selection of classical music to listen to on the stereo as you had dinner, and the wifi was excellent. Francis was a great host and was extremely helpful and patient. As with others he met us in a central location and showed us to the apartment pointing out the bakery and a few restaurants on the way. (The apartment is difficult to find on your own). Hi booklet is excellent and his recommendation “right on”. He was very quick to respond to our questions before we arrived in France and also on some question on how the electric stove worked after we arrived. We didn’t think we would cook in, but the fresh pasta at the market was fantastic. We did eat at L’Epppicerie twice and Le 46 once, both were Francis’s recommendations and were fantastic. Make reservations or go very early. Bottom line is this is a great apartment in a fantastic location. We would highly recommend it and would stay there again without any hesitation. Thank you Francis!
My wife and I (mid 60's) spent one week in October at Francis's flat in the heart
of Avignon. His place was generous in size, clean and comfortable and made it the
perfect spot to explore Avignon and the surrounding small villages and open markets in
Provence. Francis also included a very detailed booklet for each one of his guests, that
included just about as much information on Provence as did Rick Steeves travel guide. So we went with Francis's booklet and every recommendation was fabulous.
The only thing a person should be concerned about, if they are watching their weight, is
this 'to die for' patisserie that is located about 100 feet from his place. Our ritual was each
morning we began the day with coffee and a plate of French pastries....what a way to live!!
We both highly recommend his flat, and we will definitely be doing another trip this way and will stay at his place much longer....one week was just not enough.
We spent 5 glorious days in Avignon using Francis' apartment as our home base! The apartment was just
what we needed. It was close to everything; an easy walk to all we wanted to see. We walked to and from the train station several times, always enjoying the Avignon promenade. There were great restaurants, bakeries, delis, and grocery stores close by, as well. Francis was the perfect host. We met at a central location and he walked us to the apartment, pointing out all the neighborhood spots of interests. The apartment was just right for my husband and me. Francis even has a guide book he has developed with recommended restaurants and sights. We tried several on his list and they were exceptional. We were just sorry we could not try all the recommendations for food and sights. We will definitely rent this apartment again when we return to Avignon. We read all the reviews before booking this apartment. You can believe all the good things that are said. Thank you, Francis, for a delightful stay!
This apartment suited us perfectly for a two-week stay in June. The best thing about it was its location, nearly adjacent to Palais des Papes so central to everything in Avignon! It was clean, comfortable, welcoming and had everything we needed--microwave, refrigerator, cooktop, free WiFi. Francis was the perfect host--helping us plan our time before and during the visit, suggesting restaurants, hilltowns, public markets etc. He helped in every way possible and even had a cab waiting to get us to the train station upon leaving. This was our first experience with VRBO and it worked out great. Many thanks, Francis, for make it so!
At 2 steps of the Popes Palace, the famous bridge, museums, churches, covered market and restaurants...
