About Peggy Binzel

Love urban life; also, love the isolated beach with amazing wildlife. Scotland is a welcome retreat from hectic city life.

Why Peggy Binzel chose Chesapeake Bay

Scotland is a rare find. Rarely do you find an area that begins with beautiful forests and opens up onto fabulous beaches. Little traffic but only 2 hours from Washington or Baltimore. I discovered a jewel.

What makes this cottage unique

Sunrise over the Bay with morning coffee is heavenly. Walks on the beach. Take a 30 minute kayak ride or a 5 hours one - very convenient out the front door. Enjoy a tasting of good quality local wines at beautiful Woodlawn plantation just 10 miles away.

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed at this great little home at the beach for a few days. Even though it was the off season it was still a great time. The location was great and very close to the beach. We used the kayaks and bicycles provided and both were a fun way to explore the area. The amenities were as described and the kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to dine in and have a comfortable stay. Not a huge place but perfect for what we wanted and ideal for a couple not looking to spend too much on a big unnecessary house. The owner made the process very easy. I would definitely stay here again.

Great beach cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dog, and I had a great weekend stay here. The cottage is very comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen. We had just about everything we could need or want. It was a short drive to the Point Lookout State Park, which was beautiful. I imagine staying here in the summer would be a completely different experience with many more adventures possible on the warm beaches. However, just enjoying the shore and the views was rewarding in the winter. The cottage location is very private so, it's a nice break from the bustling D.C. area.

One note- there is a wood stove/fireplace, but we didn't receive instruction to bring our own firewood and none was supplied. So, we went without a fire the first night (I had been looking forward to it!), but picked some up in California, MD the next day and enjoyed the fire on the second night.

Owner's Response: The team at Scotland Yards is delighted that our guest enjoyed the beauty and serenity of our Cottage by the Bay. We apolarize that we failed to inform them that we provide firewood upon request for a $40 fee. Or, guests may bring their own supply. We will do a better job of communicating about firewood n the future. Also, guests may always reach out to our property managers with questions such as firewood during their stay.

This is a great place. We very much enjoyed a nice kayak run north then into the lagoon. Lots of bird watching. Wonderful place, very nicely setup.

Perfect for couple - quiet!

  • 4 of 5

It's hard to find a rental this small and reasonable! We enjoyed the house and the non-beachy decor. The cottage is far enough away from other houses it would probably be relatively quiet even if other house on beach had an outdoor party. The available bikes, kayaks, etc. made this an easy getaway. Having wifi and cable allowed us to keep up with the news and baseball playoffs when we were stuck in the rain. The washer/dryer was nice option to keep stinky towels to a minimum. Basic toiletries and kitchen cleaning supplies meant we didn't have to remember everything. This is a great option and we will be back!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Peggy was amazing,

The house was clean and updated. Even when it rained my husband and I loved the two decks that we could sit and listen to the crashing of the waves. The rooms were perfect size and clean. The kitchen was big and roomy. There is an all season room that seated easily 8 people. I would highly recommend this rental. I can't wait to come back.

Great little cottage!

  • 4 of 5

On a good friend's recommendation we booked Summerlee Cottage for a weekend getaway. Love the decor and very well appointed--especially love the Turkish towels! It's a close walk to a cool little beach area and we made our way to a few neighboring sites to enjoy the local flavor. We didn't get a chance to use the kayaks due to our short stay, but we did take a little ride on the bicycles provided. They're old school bikes and a bit on the rusty side so if we return, we'll bring our own bikes since it appears there is much to see and plenty of good paths in the area!
