Magnificent Mountain Home Work of Art - A wonderful place to gather friends and family for that special event...A perfect home away from home to relax and soak up the beautiful mountain views right along the Pigeon river. To date over ten couples have picked our home for their wedding celebration.!...Like other luxury mountain top homes, as you approach this home you will appreciate the home’s picturesque presentation and obvious beauty. The view is clear and almost forever as you gaze across the expansive vista. However, the similarity to other homes ends as you cross the entry threshold and suffer the complete loss of breath one typically experiences on a first visit to this magnificent work of art. You immediately notice and can never forget the hand carved stair railings and beams, finished and polished by hand but in their natural state. Across a voluminous huge room filled with furniture, windows and light, you notice the hand selected stone fireplace filling the end of the room. A work of art in itself.
Off to the left is a Gourmet’s delight of a kitchen, spacious and filled with granite and stainless and everything necessary to prepare a gourmet meal for two or thirty. As you begin to wander and look, you soon discover that this is the collective work of artisans and old school craftsmen who painstakingly excelled, an owner with a profound appreciation of nature and art combined with an unlimited budget all who collectively felt challenged with the task of building much more than a luxury home, but more a magnificent work of art, the likes of which most people have never had an opportunity to behold. And you among the fortunate are now standing here. As you continue to explore its 6 bedrooms and 5 baths, you remain amazed at the attention to detail framed in the most usual ways, such as a whole tree trunk, hand hollowed and polished to accommodate plumbing for its use as a sink base in lieu of the typical cabinet...One of many unique, small details that you will soon discover as you explore. Tile work abounds everywhere also displaying and embellishing the beauty and uniqueness of this fine work of art. You will discover a wine cellar with a tasting room and a home gym to work out if you have the energy. A steam room, heated bathroom floors, the list goes on and on. A study with a magnificent sound system will draw you in and capture you for hours. The home could virtually be in contention for a Noble Peace Prize for the amount of tranquility it bestows on its visitors if it were not for the continued arousal of curiosity of true art lovers. If you happen to be an architect, designer, builder, curator, art collector, nature lover, you do yourself a disservice by not experiencing this work of art.
And by day, if you wander outside onto the natural stone terrace, you’ll see a commanding view that looks far beyond any horizon or down to a lovely rushing river filled with the sound of water splashing on the rocks. Perhaps tubing or trout fishing kindle your youthful spirit. At night sitting in rocking chairs by a huge outdoor stone fireplace with a glass of wine will kindle your imagination or looking up to the same star filled sky that Van Gogh was so inspired by but a night sky more clear and bright than you’ve ever experienced.
Whatever you do, don’t miss this opportunity to spend a week or two living within a true work of art. Who knows when the Owner may say no more, and it’s gone from all of us forever. In the meantime if you are fortunate enough to stay here, I assure you that you will leave amazed and truly blessed by a memorable experience in this mountain top work of art.
I agree with another review - - - the pictures of this house doesn't do it justice. It's absolutely beautiful and the view is amazing! There were 8 adult family members from Louisiana and Florida; the ones from Louisiana had never experienced the Fall foliage before and it was awesome. Even though we were hoping for better weather, it certainly didn't stop us from sightseeing. Some of us toured the Biltmore Estate, traveled to Bryson City for a train ride to Dillsboro, NC, some went ziplining, and we also took a trolley tour of Asheville. The amenities were very accomodating and at the end of the week, we got to use and enjoyed sitting by the outdoor fireplace before we left. We all enjoyed our stay very much and hopefully we will be able to return in a couple of years.
My husband, our five adult children, two in-laws, two grandchildren and myself just spent Christmas week in this lovely house. There was plenty of room to be together or to be apart. We loved the big room/kitchen area with the gas fireplace. The owner had put up a Christmas tree for us--such a treat. The views are gorgeous, and there are many windows to show them off. Much more beautiful than the photos can show. The dining table was plenty big enough for all of us including a high chair for the baby! We had someone come in and cook for us and she enjoyed the kitchen. There is a record player that plays old 75's which we used every day. It was so much fun to listen to those old sounds! There is a pool table downstairs which turned out to be quite the entertainment. Christmas day was rather chilly and sunny, and we took full advantage of the fabulous outdoor fireplace. We had trips to the Biltmore and the Polar Express planned. Be aware that you will not get anywhere in short order. This place is tucked away, but definitely do not let that stop you! We also drove to hike in the Great Smokey Mt. State Park, and you really must do the Boogerman trail! It's not for the timid soul! I do recommend this house especially if you have a large family as we do. You will have plenty of breathing room!
My extended family spent a week here to celebrate my parents' 60th wedding anniversary. There were 13 of us and the house could not have been better! Thad was very accomodating and welcoming. Any questions we had, he answered right away. There are plenty of spaces to be together but also areas to be apart if you need some quiet time. The view is gorgeous and so peaceful.
On the top level, there is a large great room with 2 dining areas which were plenty large enough for the 13 of us to eat together and even converse back and forth between the 2 tables when needed. The master suite is large and beautiful. We used the study as a room for the 2 little ones. It has a sofa bed which the 4 year old slept on and the 2 year old slept in her portacrib. Across the hall from the study is a bedroom with a king sized bed and a bathroom. The master is also on this level.
The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. We cooked almost every meal and appreciated the great kitchen. That would be the only drawback if you do not want to cook. The location is gorgeous but somewhat secluded and is a 20 - 30 minute drive from Waynesville. We all took turns cooking so it was not an issue for us. There is also a small kitchen downstairs with another full refrigerator, dishwasher, and 2 wine fridges. We were able to accommodate all of the food and drinks for 13 people in the available fridge space without any real issues.
There is a large porch and a screened porch also on the main level which give you wonderful views of the mountains and the cows. The little ones especially enjoyed seeing all of the cows. We even had a double rainbow one afternoon!
On the lower level, there are 3 more bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. A large game room with a poker table and a pool table. The media room is very comfortable and we watched movies in there a couple of nights.
Outside on the lower level are more covered porches, a gas grill, and a fire place with nice wooden chairs to pull up to the fireplace.
In the garage was a pingpong table and above the garage is another bedroom and bathroom. We also had no difficulty in parking 5 cars and getting them in and out.
We would definitely love to come and stay here again. It was a great location to spend time as a family.
I cannot say enough good things about this house and it's owners! We had the best experience of any house we have rented. The house is gorgeous (the pictures don't do it justice!), incredibly well stocked and has the softest sheets I have ever slept on! Thad and Marilyn are wonderful people and were kind enough to join us for dinner one night. Thad is an accomplished conga drum player and even joined in on our back porch jam session. So fun!
We had a large group of family and friends and the house was large enough that we each felt that we could have some private space if needed. The little ones enjoyed walking down to the river and playing foosball. Our favorite part was sitting around the great outdoor fireplace at night. The entire stay was perfect!!
Pulling up to this house for the first time took our breath away. And it only got better with each room we investigated! There was plenty of room for 12 of us and we had so much fun in this beautiful house. It's immaculately kept and has the most beautiful views. Thad was so accommodating when we called him with questions. There is so much to see in the area, but I couldn't wait to get back to the house! Make sure you spend a couple evenings around the outdoor fireplace!
The Big House was the perfect setting for our daughter's wedding reception. The size was perfect to accommodate family members traveling from out of town, providing areas for large groups as well as privacy. The breath-taking views provided a special backdrop for the special event, and easily accommodated 70 guests for the evening. The house was well-equipped with everything we could have wanted or needed, and Thad quickly responded to any questions we had.
