We booked three nights in the cottage and would have loved to stay longer. The cottage is cozy and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. The gas fireplace was great to use at night and early in the morning. We loved using the hot tub after skiing also. The cottage is a short walk into town also making it extremely convenient and well located. We loved our stay and will absolutely be back!
We were looking for a post-Thanksgiving romantic getaway and the Highland Cottage was exactly what we wanted. Once we arrived, the location of the cottage made it such a convenient walk to all the attractions in town that our vehicle never moved until we departed. Although we never met or spoke with Cathy, it was immediately clear that she knows how to make her guests feel at home. Beginning with a personalized note on the door for our arrival and a plate of cookies on the table, there was no lack of personal touches and a keen awareness of the potential needs of her guests... from the premium coffee already available to the bottled water thoughtfully placed beside the bed. Those touches and a wonderfully cozy and clean cottage made our stay everything for which we had hoped. It was so comfortable that we decided to stay in one night, reheat Thanksgiving leftovers in the well appointed kitchen, and simply enjoy the cottage. We wish we could have stayed longer and can't wait to come back again.
We enjoyed our stay, unfortunately it was too short. We'd never visited LP in summer and weren't sure what to expect. Right from the start Cathy made the reservation process easy and friendly. When we arrived we found the cottage exactly as advertised on the website but with some extras that really made us feel welcome. Thanks to Cathy for the home baked cookies and fresh fruit, it truly was welcoming. Relaxing on the deck with morning coffee was great, we truly enjoyed soaking in the hot tub and the property offered privacy with large mature trees that made us feel as if we were out of town but in reality were only a 10 minute walk from Main Street. It was just the two of us this time, but the cottage could easily sleep a family of 6 with the two pullout sofas. The bathroom was large, modern and clean with plenty of fresh towels and even complimentary body wash and shampoo. If there was anything to be concerned about I would say that the loft bedroom wouldn't be great for seniors or people with mobility difficulty as it is accessed by a small ladder. However, in that case those folks could easily use the pullout couches. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Cathy!
I had a beautiful 4th of July weekend staying in this cabin with a friend. We were up training for Ironman Lake Placid, and this place was absolutely perfect. We were easily able to get to the bike and run course for the Ironman, as the cottage is just off Main Street. We were able to walk to Mirror Lake to practice the swim and take a stroll downtown where there are so many shops and restaurants. The perfect view for the fireworks was not even a minute walk away! We didn't use the car once!
The cabin itself has everything you need there. We were able to eat several meals from the cabin which was so convenient when we were too tired to go out (clean up was easy with the dishwasher!). And Cathy left us the BEST cookies, which we finished very quickly. The cabin was extremely clean, and we just felt right at home there. Although no dogs are allowed in the cottage itself - we loved seeing Cathy's dog, Oliver, every day outside. He was the sweetest pup and was so excited to see us!
The only thing I could think of is a potential con is it is not handicap accessible. The lofted bed was very cozy, but the stairs up to the bed could be a problem for those who cannot climb ladders (we had some trouble with our sore legs!). Might have to use one of the pull out couches instead!
If I'm ever lucky enough to come back to Placid after the Ironman, I will definitely be staying here! I would stay here for the Ironman if I didn't need a place that allows dogs - my pup is coming up for that!
This is the perfect place to stay, short walk to main street, yet private and quiet at night. I will be coming back here again. The living area is spacious and cozy. There was nothing I needed that wasn't found somewhere in the cottage. It was like staying at a friend's house.
Highly recommend, it is worth every penny.
I booked this place as a Romantic Christmas gift getaway for my girlfriend and i for 3 nights. Drove 5 hours to be in this area. Gorgeous area and cottage. So clean and the location is unbelievable. We arrived late at night, Cathy was kind enough to leave a note detailing everything out and a lovely tray of cookies was also waiting. Hot tub is close by, bring shoes or something plus a bathrobe if in the winter. The mattress was a little soft but not terribly uncomfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked, only thing i didn't find was a whisk but a fork works just as well. I cooked meals all day for the two of us there. oven is a small one but i was able to manage. The only thing i could recommend is tending to the bathroom window. It doesn't seal so the bathroom was always cold especially when the outside temp is around 8 degrees. Their is a wall unit heater to take the edge off but if the door is left open it does nothing. The surrounding area was the immediate downtown on Main St. and not far is plenty of hiking, skiing, and the Olympic attractions are worth the time. I can't wait to come back sometime in the summer so i can take advantage of the lakes and all the hiking. The place is so cozy i didn't want to leave. The living room couch was comfy to watch a movie with the gas fireplace on. Like i said before i cannot wait to come out this way again and stay here.
