Architect Designed Property: This is truly one of the special houses of Seattle. Originally built in 1928, it was completely renovated by Roland Terry, the iconic architect of the Northwest who also designed the famous Canlis Restaurant. More recently, the house was updated by the internationally famous modern architect, Hugh Newell Jacobsen. This location is close enough to everything you want to see and do in Seattle, but provides a stylish respite from the urban life nearby.
I apologize for being so tardy in responding to your gracious note. And, yes, I have so many things I would like to share about our stay in your beautiful home......first, Ginger was awesome! She was warm and friendly and couldn't have been more welcoming. When we had a question about the lights on the tree in the front yard - she immediately got an answer for us. Later in the week, when I had a question about closing up the home.................she returned my call immediately; again with answers! But there truly was little that wasn't covered in your welcoming packet! It was informative without being imposing....it had just the right amount of information to make everything about our stay easy!
The house had absolutely everything we needed to make our family Thanksgiving! We had several long cooking days and the kitchen couldn't have been better equipped! One of the guests is a professional baker and she found all the necessary tools to keep us in fresh bread and cinnamon rolls all week long!
Our musical theater trio provided us hours of entertainment on the grand piano in the foyer! It was such a hit!!!! They were especially charmed to read the history of the house and it's ties to Jack Benny and his friends. They are certainly hoping that some of the "mojo" of your home follows them back to NYC!
Then their was the beautiful front room with the wall of glass! It didn't matter if it was raining or the sun was shining this amazing room was where everyone eventually gravitated to once the eating was finished and the entertainment was over. Sitting there drinking the gourmet coffee that this city is known for, looking out over the water, the houseboats, the bridge, the ships.........we truly got to experience Seattle in all it's glory from this beautiful spot!
I simply can't express how great Pia & John were as hosts. They're kind, warm, sincere and welcomed me into their home like we have known each other for years. They're prompt in responding and their home is not only gorgeous with stunning views but also impeccably clean and tidy! Which if you're a perfectionist like myself you will most certainly appreciate the care and respect they have for their home and way of living. I felt at home in their home and quite frankly did not want to leave and for me that is speaking volumes. Everything was simply perfection from start to finish. Thank you again Pia & Michael for opening up your home to us.
Pia and John's home was perfect for our family + friend, 7 total in our group (including 3 children). It was our first time in Seattle and it turned out to be a wonderful location for us. Anything we could of needed was available in this home and communication was easy. We loved our time in Seattle and this home is a great place to relax after a long day exploring the city and nearby parks. We can't wait to come back, thank you again Pia!
Beautiful gardens, fantastic view, great location, well equipped, lots of books and dvd's. At the end of the day we enjoyed watching the endless water traffic, drawbridge, sailing clubs ,floating houseboats and dusk from the large sliding glass windows.Sunrise yielded the same fantastic view as the harbour came to life. This is an older house, updated ,modernized and clean. We had six grandchildren (12 to 19) for a 7 day stay -- they enjoyed the family room, played games, watched movies, walked to Starbucks and found scads of Pokemon creatures in the neighbourhood. Ideal location for travel to Microsoft Campus,Green Lake, downtown(Pikes Market, Space Needle, Chihuly Gardens,Space Wheel, original Starbucks,Underground tour ),Boeing Factory, Ballard Locks, Fish Ladder and Lake Union Argosy tour. We were also able to park at U of Washington and take rapid transit to Safeco Field for a Mariner Game. Our 15 passenger van would not fit on the driveway but we were able to safely park it on the street. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home. Thank you to Pia and John who were extremely helpful.
This was the perfect house for our 3 generation family's visit to the Seattle. The master bedroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen are on the upper level while the children's and grandchildren's rooms and baths as well as the family room are located on the lower level. The house is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The gourmet kitchen is well thought out and perfect for family cooking.
The house is well located. I highly recommend this house.
We decided to spend a week in Seattle when our son graduated from the University of Washington, and invited my brother's family to join us as they had never been to Seattle. Everyone that came in, said "Wow!" when they saw the view overlooking Lake Union. There were eight adults in our group and I wanted everyone to have a bedroom, so there were four comfortable bedrooms, one on the main floor and the other three downstairs. The kitchen was modern and great for fixing meals. There was a media room downstairs with so many titles of movies, a modern washer and dryer for use as well. We could walk to a french bakery, we went hiking and to a brewery and took an electric boat out one afternoon on Lake Union for several hours. In the foyer there was a beautiful grand piano and we enjoyed having my daughter sit down and play, that was a bonus! I don't think we could have had a better house to all enjoy. Bring your binoculars to watch the birds and boats going by.
The setting, architecture, and furnishings are outstanding. The house was spotless. Pia and John were great hosts
Nestled in the heart of Seattle, overlooking the houseboats on Portage Bay with a view of the Cascade mountains, this is a sophisticated mid-city retreat with a lush garden, just steps from the water. Located north of Capitol Hill, it's a short walk to the University of Washington and Husky Stadium, the
Burke Gilman Trail and the Arboretum. It's just minutes by car or bus to downtown and the Pike Place Market, ferries, shopping, sporting events, restaurants, theatre, museums, and Seattle Center. Less than a mile away is the 520 bridge, providing easy access to Bellevue, Redmond and the mountains.
