When the producers of ABC’s 'The Bachelorette' selected the Dutch-influenced island of Curaçao as a destination for Season Eight they looked for a luxurious, romantic home where Emily Maynard and her daughter Ricki could enjoy the sun, sea and a bit of island history. They chose Sirena Bay Estate for 'The Bachelorette' season's final episode.
When the white gates to Sirena Bay Estate swing open the staff will there to welcome you to a private island retreat. The classic “Dutch Landhuis” style home is set in a beautiful garden by the sea. Mature trees and palms combine with a profusion of tropical flowers and vegetation that is by design alternately manicured and wild to create a magnificent garden setting. Privacy walls surround the estate and create an intimate atmosphere that lets you feel like you are in your own world.
The Grand Entrance Hall provides a world class welcome to everyone visiting Sirena Bay. Guests are received here and it is decorated with an ever changing collection of art from the artists of Curacao. Contemporary paintings, ceramics and sculpture will captivate you and demonstrate that this is truly the art island.
The beautifully designed Living Room features cathedral ceilings, a unique mix of antique Caribbean furniture and a dramatic art collection that creates a charming place to gather. This elegant room opens on to the Loggia and has beautiful views of the sea and pool terrace.
The Loggia is an open air room that makes the most of the natural island setting that makes the Estate so unique. Teak lounge chairs offer a nice place to relax and the dining table provides a perfect setting for meals. Light the candles each evening to welcome everyone as you gather to enjoy the sunset and the dinner hour.
The Grand Ocean View Terrace is an outdoor oasis with a swimming pool and intimate garden that surrounds the Estate. The Oceanside Gazebo can provide a shady place to relax on lounge chairs or it can be transformed for dining by the sea. From here, you can enjoy the view back to town and stunning sunsets.
The Lower Beach Terrace is your own sandy retreat by the water’s edge. The ever changing surface of the water leaves no doubt that this is what outdoor living is meant to be…watching the beauty of the sea and hearing the sound of the waves at your doorstep.
The Swimming Pool features a 21’ round spa area that is shallow with seating and jets around the perimeter. A bridge connects to the 50’ lap area where two swimming lanes allow for a serious workout. Plenty of lounge chairs on the terrace can be placed in the sun or shade for a perfect poolside day. The beautifully appointed pool house has shower and changing facilities and serves as a powder room when entertaining guests on the terrace.
A beautiful handmade curved Dutch style wooden staircase leads you to the Pineapple Suite. At the top of the staircase is a landing and sitting area with shuttered doors opening out to a balcony overlooking the swimming pool, private beach and expansive ocean. An antique settee and chair are part of the furnishings complimenting this charming area of the home that serves to connect you to the bedroom.
The Bedroom of the Pineapple Suite features a big pineapple chandelier descending from the vaulted cathedral ceiling. The room is decorated with handcrafted teakwood furniture. The king size bed makes this a truly luxurious master bedroom retreat.
The Pineapple Bathroom has marble walls, double sinks with granite countertops, a spacious shower and large spa tub set in mahogany wood that makes a great place for relaxing as the day winds down.
The Royal Suite is a romantic retreat with a hand carved mahogany king size bed. An antique writing desk from the Dutch colonization days makes a perfect place to write post cards home.
The Royal Bathroom is an oasis where you can pamper yourself as you relax in the tub or take a quick shower after a swim. Italian porcelain tiles and antique bronze fixtures make this a world class bathroom.
The Sirena Suite has a feeling of tropical refinement. The room features teakwood furnishings and colorful accents reflecting the mermaid theme of this bedroom with two twin beds which can be bridged to become a king if needed.
The Sirena Bath is a spacious white tiled spa like retreat with an extra deep bath tub, large walk in shower and double vessel sinks.

Richard and the staff were extremly helpful in making our trip to Curacao a success. The house staff made sure the house was well maintained and every need was taken care of. The views and privacy were above expectations. The house is on a quiet street but well within walking distance to restaurants and bars. If you're looking for a place to unwind, I would highly recommend Sirena Bay.
This is the second house my family has booked using VBRO, hands-down the BEST. My family hadn't seen each other in a while and what a wonderful paradise to reunite.
Richard was amazing and helpful with learning what parts of the island were best suited. Ottis there aren't enough words for how amazing that man was. He truly served our family in the best way. He was so generous with information and helpful.
My husband and I joined friends on our holiday at your beautiful home Aug. 4-12th. Robbert happily greeted us at the airport even though our flight had been delayed a bit. When we arrived at the Estate, Ottis met us and carried in our bags. He and Shelley were one of the most enjoyable parts of our trip.. They were hospitable, friendly and helpful. I chuckled as they would not leave our side at the grocery store. They took care of us, cleaning daily, taking us to the grocery store, the beach, making sure we were safe and comfortable at all times. The Estate is gorgeous. My favorite spot was the wooden swing down by the beach. Just wanted to thank you and let you know how wonderful our trip was. A vacation of a lifetime! Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Richard was wonderful to work with in renting his home for our vacation. He was prompt in answering all my emails and left no stone unturned. The house was lovely. We especially enjoyed the services of Otis and Shelly. Otis took care of everything for us from making dinner reservations, to walking us to town, to resetting the power when we tripped the circuit, to unlocking doors when we accidentally locked ourselves out. He made sure our stay was safe and enjoyable. Shelly came daily to tidy up. I highly recommend this property! The view from the property is spectacular.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. The web site photos are impressive. We were not disappointed. The level of service was great. Richard, the owner, picking us up at the airport, stopping for groceries on the way to the home. Richard coming by the next morning to drive me to his recommended car rental agency. (I'm glad we had the car for the week but we didn't use it as much as I had thought. The house and poolside were so beautiful no one wanted to leave.) Richard was also extremely helpful in arranging medical attention for one of our party. Ottis and Shelly are the onsite caretakers, housekeepers, and chief concierge. Ottis was our constant go to guy. He arranged reservations, offered suggestions, provided directions, blew up air mattresses, and repaired leaky ones. Shelly was always there when we needed her but was always careful not to intrude.
Stay anywhere for a week and you are bound to find a few glitches. Low gas pressure on the stove makes cooking anything very slow. As others have mentioned, the wifi in the outside living areas is spotty or nonexistent. Air conditioning in the bedrooms and bathrooms cools extremely well but can be challenging to regulate.
I'd like to add a few thoughts on the island itself. We spent a week on Aruba before making the short flight to Curaçao. Curaçao is a larger island but not as touristy as Aruba. Fewer Americans, more Dutch.( which was just fine for us Canadians) Less developed beaches. Great restaurants. Confusing roads...you'll want to use a GPS. Definitely a heightened awareness for ones personal safety, although we never had any problems. US dollars works fine but be aware of the exchange rate your getting compared to using Guilders.
Sirena Bay Esate is a beautiful home. The layout and design of the both the interior and exterior living areas is impressive. Could easily spend a week here and never want to leave the property. Hope to do exactly that when we return with 12 of our favourite family members.
The pictures don’t do it justice. It is more beautiful than a screen can capture – the outdoor areas lush with flora and fauna. A true paradise where infinity pool meets ocean, palm trees tango with a spectrum of flowers, and numerous sitting areas (from oceanfront to the back of the house) allow you to soak it all in.
The estate itself is about 15-20 minutes by foot to downtown Willemstad or a 5-minute walk to a handful of restaurants and boutique hotels. We dined at Scuba Lounge (breakfast), Saint Tropez Ocean Club (dinner) and Serafina (30th birthday dinner) – all worth checking out. These are some of the closest options to the house/property.
The A/C in the rooms was ice cold, the bathrooms stocked with shampoos/soaps, towels provided in the pool house and rooms, and many little bits and bops already in place (vs. other rentals I’ve stayed at where you have to provide everything.) The pool was always cool. The provided cell phone was a big plus. Richard and his wife Marilyn are gracious hosts – it was a pleasure meeting them both!
We had a lot of issues with WiFi connectivity, which normally wouldn’t be an issue whilst on vacation, but two people in our party were working (very) remotely, and in order to get any sort of connection, had to sit next to the router (which in the main house, is located in one of the bathrooms, next to the tub.) Even after disconnecting and reconnecting the power cords (and speaking to Otis about the issues), the connection never improved.
It’s my understanding the house is tidied up and taken care of when guests are away, but we weren’t always away (it’s so serene) therefore toward the end of our stay, some rooms were not refreshed, dishes weren’t put away, outside area not swept up and bugs not sprayed for. The latter became evident as days 4 and 5 of our stay, more cockroaches/various buglife started appearing. Again, I know we are in the tropics and bugs are expected, however, the level of which they materialized grew exponentially as the week went on, suggesting they were not sprayed for daily. All of this could have simply been miscommunication. These things can be improved upon, however.
I would definitely recommend staying here! Under construction just a few doors down is a new Hard Rock Hotel – I’m sure this area will only improve more!
Sirena Bay Estate is in the heart of some of the Island's finest restaurants and a short (2 KM) drive from Curacao's best beach and the Seaquarium with its dolphin show and dolphin therapy events. Downtown is a 15 minute walk away with its many shops, restaurants and World Heritage architecture on the waterfront.
