About Bill Melendez

We have been married for over 40 years. After leaving The

USAF and our home in Yuba City, Ca. We went back to where we grew up, Long Island, NY. Raised 3 children and now boast of 2 grandsons, Santino and Maximo. I'm a self employed Contractor, 'The Toolman, A Handyman Service and my wife works for a country club on the south shore of Long Island.

We come down to Lake Marion often and find it really relaxing. Our days here usually consist of shopping at Walmart , Lowes' and/or Publix Discovering new restaurants, going to flea markets, the movies [something we usually don't have time to do at home] and driving to either coast. St Pete Beach or newly discovered Vero Beach, and many other beaches all with their own charm and personality. Maybe staying in a motel if we want to but always being able to drive back to Lake Marion Resort.

We find LMR a great place to relax after whatever we do. A short shopping day or a long side trip. We find ourselves relaxing. whether sitting down to read or watching some TV or walking to the lake or to the pool/hot tubl. Its a great place.

Bill Melendez purchased this condo in 2008

Why Bill Melendez chose Disney / Orlando

About 23 years ago my wife had a brain tumor. After a year of doctors, hospitals, work, family, the house, etc... We wanted to go to Disney. We planned on making it in 3 days, leaving after work staying in Washington DC, and a 'Red Roof Inn', in Jacksonville, Fl. We woke up in DC to a emergency snow warning for the east coast. We had reservations at a Disney World Resort, and a lot of snow wasn't going to stop us. All the kids were on board, the last year taught them about getting things done. Through one of the harshest snow storms I can remember we drove down to Florida. Interstate 95 was empty. Well there were a lot of memories made on that trip.

We got to Disney, stayed the 3 days and 2 nites. Disney was great. We decided to stay longer but the cost of an unexpected stay at Disney would put a hurting on our budget. That was when we were introduced to vacation rentals.

For about $40 a night we rented a condo. We had breakfast in the condo and maybe another meal if we felt like it. Eating out wasn't imperative and activities were shared with other families at the complex. We continue to go out but we had a nice spacious place to come back to.

What makes this condo unique

Lake Marion Resorts backs a state preserve. You are in Central Florida, Wild life, cattle ranches, orange groves, 2 General store w/i 1 Mile, 15 minutes to local shopping including a 'Public's' , 'Super Walmart', and a 'Lowe's'. 20 to 50 minutes mostly everywhere else. Beach's 2 hours away either coast.

A gated community that offers peace of mind. A lake, 3 pools, whirlpool, Pool table, Tennis court, Basketball court, why leave... enjoy more of Florida.

It was a great experience. Not to thrilled with the fact that the parks are approximately 45 mine away, but overall comfortable and convenient.

Very nice place

  • 4 of 5

It's a very nice, quiet place to stay. Everything was exactly as described by the owner. We didn't have the chance to enjoy the pool and courts, due to our busy schedule, but they were there at our disposal. It is almost an hour drive from the parks, but the closer options were far to expensive, not worthy.

Cheapest place around.

  • 3 of 5

You won't find anything less expensive in the area. Realize it is out in the orange groves & a drive from everything but it's nice if you want no traffic & still about 10 minutes from stores. The condo is large & roomy but everything in it is probably original 2007 & the beds & couches are very uncomfortable. Couldn't use the dishwasher, the ice maker didn't work, the internet went out & then the TV stayed blurry. The master bath toilet ran constantly & we finally had to turn off the water at night . Then the flushing handle broke so we had to flush with a bucket of water. Although the gated community is well maintained there is a problem with "non- guests" that seem to live there full time. Two nice pools but everyday after school & weekends, they fill up with screaming, running, jumping, diving kids that apparently don't have to follow the posted rules. The security guard gave one mom a citation but she said "they're kids & they have to play" so it continued. One Sat. there were 30 kids in the pool while all us paying guests sat on the deck & watched as there was no room to swim. Another guest told us there's a problem with "squatters" there that know when guests leave a condo ! The walls are very thin & we could hear every word & snore from downstairs & next door. This unit is on the outside of the complex with the balcony roadside & a school across so quite noisy. Everyday is yard work with mowers & trimmers starting about 8:30 so don't plan to sleep in. The owner was very nice when booking this stay but now, 27 days later & we still don't have our security deposit back nor does he contact us. Lake Marion really isn't usable as it's all weeds with an alligator under the dock & you have to drive to it from the condo. A vacuum would be a nice addition as we were there 3 weeks without one & the carpet shows the wear from past years. There are many units for rent here so I'd keep looking......

Owner's Response: Three days before Diane C. posted her review she wrote me... '''Good morning folks ! I woke up this morning with a thought......do we check out on the 31st or 1st ? I'm not sure what 12 - 31 means ...... We're REALLY enjoying our stay at your place & it is just perfect for us. We like that it's away from all the action & our big decision most days has been which pool to use. We figure Sat. must be free day for all the workers' kids as I counted 30 of them this past weekend in there. Luckily it's school season ! We went to one Detroit Tiger game (playing the Yankees) but were "sunned out" at 93 degrees & had to leave early. They were hauling folks out on stretchers ! But we're going again Sat. as it's supposed to be cooler. Today is only the 2nd cloudy day but we have to drive to Orlando to visit a friend anyway. ... Seems like the soap dispenser door is stretched out as the tablets end up in the bottom. I've tried liquid & the dishes just don't get washed. I've just recently got my first dishwasher at home so don't mind washing by hand a bit...... Again, thanks for the opportunity to stay at your wonderful condo. It's been so relaxing for us & just what we wanted. I see someone is coming right after us---should I still unplug the refrig ? Hope your snow is gone ???? It's still winter at our home so we love checking the daily weather ! Enjoy your day. Diane " Please if something comes up that needs immediate attention please call either Joyce, the manage,r or Myself. Don't count on emails to resolve a problem Call ! I live in New York so your 1st call should be Joyce. Lake Marion Homeowner Association and its owners take great pride in our homes. We are a gated community with 24 hr security. Guest share Lake Marion with its residents. A mix of retirees from all over the country, working Floridians families and guests. LM and our condo is a is a wonderful place to stay. Well maintained and nicely landscape. More people enjoy there stays than don't. My wife and I have never, never see the type of mayhem that was imply or spoken about by Diane C. We just visit LM with our grand kids. The Pools were empty. The condo is clean after every guest, sheets changed, rugs vacuumed and floors mobbed. The condo is rented at around 180 days a year. We shampoo the rugs at lease once a year. Most of our guests have found the vacuum in the closet {1 of 4}. I can't imagine not finding it, I guess you have to look.

Notes:
This October visited both 'Vero Beach', east coast, and St. Petersburg Beach', west coast, both a little less than a 2 hour Drive. 'Vero Beach' we walked through a Mangrove forest on a very nice deck bridge to the beach, some what secluded. The Atlantic made for some nice waves. The people were friendly. The picnic area and rest rooms were clean and safe. The Vero Beach, in general, casual and upscale. A really nice place. St Petersburg we did pay for parking, $1.50 per hour, again the beach and facilities were safe and clean. Walking on the beach the first thing I notice was the sand really white and almost like powder. The water a little warmer and calm. More of a commercial beach their were more services offered, such as, lounges for $5/day or 2 lounges and a cabana {a large umbrella} for $25/day. In addition you could make arrangement there to go snorkeling for the day $50/day, or maybe pedal one of those large 3 wheel bicycle on the water, I think it was $35/ half hour.
