About Nathanael Hughes
My name is Nathanael Hughes, I played college basketball at King University a division 2 school in Bristol, TN where I graduated with my MBA in 2016. I own a financial planning practice in Johnson City, TN. My passion is the great outdoors, my family, friends, and meeting new people. I have grew up in east Tennessee my whole life and can give a local flavor of advice to anyone visiting.
Why Nathanael Hughes chose Roan Mountain
This house was passed down to me from my grandmother who grew up at 212 Heaton Creek Rd. This place holds a special place in my heart because of the sentimental value that it possesses. I think it is a great opportunity to allow others to have the experience that I have had growing up here farming, fishing, and enjoying the sights that it has to offer; whether that is for a day or weeks at a time.
What makes this Farmhouse unique

We enjoyed the feel of this home. It took us back in time to my grandmother’s home. My adult children enjoyed it as much as I did. The location is so peaceful and welcoming. The owner is very easy to contact and replies quickly. Thank you for a great get-away!
Clean and cozy. This isn't a "staged" place for rental purposes—it's a home, and you can feel the lives of the people who lived in it. We liked sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds, and deer run by. Sweet little stay.
A very cousy getaway!
It was a wonderful stay! The house is very cousy and has amazing charm. The kitchen had plenty of cooking utensils and silverware for cooking and eating. Enough beds for everyone and plenty of blankets and pillows!
This property is just as advertised. Nathan was extremely responsive and helpful. We would stay here again .
Hope you enjoy the apple butter we loved sitting on the back porch watching the deer come in your yard.
A genuine homestead next to Roan Mountain
It's an old wooden home that was actually lived in and still retains the decor of the earlier time. Yes they have Internet and some new appliances, but it is truly a place apart from the every day. We used it as a base to explore the Appalachian Trail from Carver's Gap which sits near the top of the mountain. There's also a state park with swimming and hiking nearby. We stayed only one night. Our most memorable experience was cooking dinner on the grill, eating on the back porch and listening to the babble of the stream at the back of the property. Dessert consisted of heirloom apples picked from the trees. The sky was clear so the stars were visible in abundance. The only thing that could have made it better would have been a display of fireflies, but it was too late in the year for that. Also the owner was very accommodating.
