About the property

Experience romance, adventure, wilderness, peace & tranquillity!

Perched on top of Mt George with views of the Patterson Valley and World heritage listed Barrington Tops is Arinya Lodge. “Arinya” means Kangaroo in the Aboriginal language.

Arinya is an ecolodge with stunning views, priceless moments, beautiful unspoilt natural surroundings and an abundance of native Australian birds and wildlife…… Did we say stunning views? It has everything that exudes comfort, privacy and peace and everything you could want for a truly relaxing break.

On the 1,000-acre mountaintop wilderness retreat, wildlife roams freely, and why not? It’s an absolute priviledge to share the environment with the Wallabies, Wallaroos, Kangaroos, Koalas, Goannas, Mountain Lizards, Possums, Echidnas, Gliders, Crimson Rosellas, Black Cockatoos, Wrens, Native Pigeons, Kookaburras……… Wedge-Tail Eagles soar aloft and tranquillity rules.

This unique mountain resort (over 500 meters above the valley below) is located on the top of Mt George, the highest peak in the Moonabung ranges. As the weather cools, clouds and mist envelope the resort providing a surreal feeling of living in the clouds. On some days you are even above the clouds!

Set on 13 unspoilt acres in an award-winning mountaintop wilderness resort in the Lower Hunter Valley, Arinya Lodge is perfect for romantic weekends and great family escapes.

On the grounds of Arinya Lodge is the Moonabung Labyrinth (see below).

As our private guests you will also enjoy the use of all the community facilities including the Tennis Court, solar-heated Pool, Outdoor Fitness Centre, Swimming Lagoon & BBQ Picnic area, Children’s Play Area, Recreation Room with Table Tennis and Pool tables and, of course, the Bistro & Bar.

With wonderful Bushwalking Trails, a Rainforest with an old Bushman’s Hut, a beautiful Lagoon for dragonfly watching and freshwater dips, Yabby Ponds, 4 WD tracks, panoramic Lookouts and more, there are endless ways to escape, really experience and enjoy the natural world.

On the 1,000 acre mountaintop wilderness retreat, the wildlife roams free. It's an absolute joy to share the environment with Wallaroos, Kangaroos, Goannas, Possums, Gliders, Crimson Rosellas, Black Cockatoos and so many more wonderful creatures. THE MOONABUNG LABYRINTH.

Often confused with Mazes, where you go to get lost, Labyrinths are where you go to “Find yourself”.

Walked by pilgrims and penitents and an important spiritual part of many cultures for thousands of years, Labyrinths can be found in many of Europe’s medieval churches and cathedrals such as Chartres – on which the Labyrinth opened in Sydney’s Centennial Park in September 2014 was based.

Made almost entirely by hand by Arinya's owners, the Moonabung Labyrinth is accurately modelled on the even older, ancient Cretan pattern.

Other religions incorporate Labyrinths into their spirituality. Buddhists walk them in silent meditation and they are often laid out in sacred shapes that encourage contemplation and thoughtfulness.

Labyrinths, have acknowledged therapeutic and medical benefits and there is evidence that a labyrinth walk is a ‘right brain exercise’ that can activate the intuitive, imagination and creative side of your brain. The mentally calming and meditative effect of Labyrinths has led to more than 200 being built in US Hospitals in the last decade. There’s a Labyrinth at the Westmead Children’s Hospital and they are appearing in Universities, Rehabilitation Clinics, Parks, Schools and many other places worldwide.

Step into Arinya’s backyard and take your first steps in discovering why …

Owner's Response: Hello Lesley, I am sorry to hear that the cabin was dusty. We will follow this with our housekeeper - Alison, she has been looking after the cabin for over 10 years now and we have never had a negative feedback. Not sure if the hot & dry weather might have increased the dust levels. The cabin is no different to the pictures advertised. We have definitely not been to a glamping ground with a Four-Poster bed either. The rates are in line with the facilities at the lodge and in the resort. I certainly wish you had mentioned this when we spoke over the phone on the night before your departure. We were under the impression that you had enjoyed your stay and there was nothing to complain about. We have taken your feedback about the dust seriously and will investigate it with Alison. Regards Patrick

Tranquil, Views - Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful birthday weekend away with the girls! The first thing you notice is the view from the back deck... breath taking, especially at sunrise or sunset.

The kangaroos and birds hang out right next to the lodge and don't startle easily. So much fun to watch.

The lodge itself is cozy and well equipped, games, kitchen and pantry items. We brought our own tomato sauce, spices and extra paper towel, which came in handy. The fireplace is really easy to operate and the owners ensured plenty of wood.

Everything was very clean, the beds were really comfortable, we never ran out of hot water (5 woman showering) and there were plenty of towels and blankets and cushions for extra comfort. The fire pit out the front is great for toasting marshmallows.

*Two things to note: The iPod dock is for iPhone 3. Bring an adapter.

Arriving in the daytime, the trip up the mountain is narrow and long and finding the lodge could be trickier, as are are a few around. Plus then you get to watch the sunset!

The hosts were lovely and really helpful from the moment we booked.

Thanks Peter and Ann for the bubbly surprise in the fridge! Will definitely be staying again.

Cosy comfort, character and that view

  • 5 of 5

Our visit was marvellous – completely relaxing in the best fitted out lodge/cottage we have ever stayed in with the most awesome views and the friendliest local mob. I left most of the kitchen essentials I brought in the box as you have thought of it all including cling wrap and a dish brush. The place was spotless, the firewood plentiful, the beds comfortably firm with really good pillows and plenty of space for the three of us to spread out on the lounges with that view front and centre. We changed over the kitchen gas bottle on Friday night closely watched by a brushtailed possum who then examined us up close and personal on the verandah. We saw him again on Saturday night when he came around the front deck to check us out inside. The neighbourhood mob of wallaroos visited regularly and one mum with joey was particularly friendly especially with Jess when she sat on the edge of the verandah. The group of grey kangaroos came in this morning while we were packing up and checked us out while having a drink – more photos and close encounters. The panoramic view of the valley and the Barringtons in the distance changes with the light, the cloud, the fog and rain and is simply stunning and with the fire going and a glass of red it is just about perfect.

We had such a wonderful stay that we are seriously planning a return.

Excellent for views and kangaroos!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great long weekend at Arinya Lodge! The views are amazing and there's a great feeling of peace and relaxation perched there at the top of the mountain. Plenty of kangaroos with Joeys in the pouches grazing around the house. The children loved the fireplace and we cooked dampers on the outside fire, which was loads of fun! The cottage is very well maintained, comfortable and clean with a renovated bathroom and functional kitchen (you'll need to bring your food as it is a good thirty-minute to the nearest shop). Situated in Eaglereach resort (a huge area with large lodges all tucked away from each other) we enjoyed the resort's games room with a pool table and table tennis, as well as the tennis court (5-minute walk). Tennis rackets, balls and even petanque boules in the cottage! With so many activities and nearby walks you don't need to drive anywhere, plenty to do! Highly recommend.
