A unique 1865 property, stunning views of Sydney Harbour Bridge from the roof

For your added security, this property is only managed in Australia and we never request payments be made to overseas bank accounts.

An elegant 1865 sandstone hotel converted into a contemporary 3 bedroom home in the waterside suburb of Balmain, just a 10 minute bus trip from the heart of the CBD.

A private, peaceful and luxurious house that can accommodate up to 7 people. On the entrance level there are 2 double bedrooms, the main opening onto a small courtyard. A modern mosaic tile bathroom with shower, bath, heated towel rail (hair dryer) service these bedrooms. On the same level is a large studio/rumpus room with a daybed which can be made up as a single bed if required. There is also genuine French 'foosball table' if you wish to re-enact the world cup.

Upstairs is the open plan living, dining and kitchen with original sandstone walls, pressed metal ceilings and floor boards dating from 1865. Flooded with northern light this charming room opens onto a large covered balcony that runs the width of the house. Enjoy a quiet afternoon on the chinese daybed or in the evenings, enjoy an aperitif, dinner or cook up a feast on the BBQ. The modern fully equipped kitchen has an ILVE stove, microwave and dishwasher. A modern bathroom is also located on this level.

Or you may prefer to admire the fabulous views of the iconic harbor bridge, city and harbour from the roof garden, perfect for those evening drinks or at anytime of day. There is also a 3rd private double bedroom situated in the loft with a view onto the roof garden.

Balmain is a peninsula west of Sydney's city centre. Originally a working class suburb with a handful of wealthy merchants and industrialists. Its main industry was shipbuilding and repairs which flourished at the beginning of the 1900s. Later Balmain was 'invaded' by Bohemian types - mainly writers, artists and academics who preferred the more relaxed character of the place than the eastern suburbs. Balmain has a very long main street (Darling Street) which starts at a ferry wharf with regular services to Circular Quay and Darling Harbour. Arriving from the city, a left turn and a short walk will find you in the Illoura Reserve at Peacock Point, a pleasant spot with views back to the city and the Harbour Bridge.

The village of Balmain, which is only a 5 minute walk has a selection of boutiques, bookshops, gourmet food and specialty shops. It also well known for restaurants, cafes and pubs along with a couple of old churches and restored historic buildings.

Balmain side streets are very narrow lined with quaint restored workman's cottages. There are several markets close by on a Saturday that sell everything from vintage clothing to farm produce. But Balmain's main attraction is its atmosphere, pubs, cafes and the chance for some people-watching in a laid-back environment close to the harbour and the city. Several pubs have music on weekends and serve fine meals. It is surrounded by the harbour with many foreshore parks and the perfect location to enjoy the famed Sydney lifestyle.

A bond is payable which is refundable on check out.

Additional person after 6 incurs a fee of $30 per night.

MINIMUM BOOKINGS AND CHECK IN AND OUT TIMES

Minimum booking is for 4 nights but shorter stays sometimes are avaiiable.

Normal check in time is after 2pm while checkout is by 10.30am. There maybe some flexibility with these times depending on bookings before and after your dates.

CANCELLATION POLICY

If cancelled less than 6 weeks prior to arrival 100% of the deposit will be kept unless the property is booked by another party for those dates.

I grew up in Sydney and have lived around the Balmain area for many years. It is one of my favourite areas in Sydney, the character, proximity to the city and harbour and the general community feel it has. Great cafes and restaurants as well. I work as a graphic designer albeit part time these days. I travel a couple of times a year as I suffer from wanderlust and the experience of meeting new people and cultures. I enjoy meeting and welcoming guests to my home which is where I lived for many years. The house is filled with my books, paintings and items from my travels making it a unique and warm place to stay. I live a couple of suburbs away and I am always on hand if required. Why vanessa wright chose Balmain

The Pacific took us two years to find and it was a complete ruin on discovery. We wanted a building in Balmain that had space and light, which can be difficult to find. The old girl had good bones and some charming features that were still in tact. The building is a unique part of the Balmain pub story (Balmain used to have 40 pubs once) and has many stories to be told. The cellar is still there but no longer filled with beer, sorry! It has welcomed many people over the years and still continues to do so.

What makes this house unique

my house brings me joy whenever I visit, the sunshine that streams into the living space, the roof top garden with the views, the feeling of history that permeates the building. The original floor boards upstairs, sandstone walls and pressed metal ceilings. The location couldn't be better and the street is ablaze with colour in autumn due to the Tallowood trees which provide leafy shade in the summer. The overhang front verandah provides the perfect outdoor living, watching the world slide by with privacy.

Wonderful Stay in Balmain

We loved our 5 night stay at The Eclectic! The house was located a few short blocks from great restaurants and stores in charming Balmain and a quick 10 minute walk to the ferry that took us to the Opera House area of Sydney as well as the great beaches of Manly and Bondi. We caught the bus into the city as well, and the stop was right up the street. The house was clean, spacious and had a wonderful balcony with views of the beautiful tree-lined street....great for enjoying a glass of wine or reading. Vanessa was very responsive to our questions and met us when we arrived. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again if we make it back to Sydney

Fantastic!

Our group of friends and family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. Much bigger than the pictures suggest and ample space for 7 adults (the 7th bed is a small single). Really well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. A real home from Home and the owner couldn’t have been more helpful from the initial booking enquiry to checking out.

Ferry to Sydney just a short walk away and the bus stop at the end of the street.

superb house and fantastic support & communcation

This is a wonderful spacious comfortable property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Pacific.

We had wonderful support and communication from the owner both prior to and during our stay.

The Eclectic Pacific is wonderfully located in Balmain and perfect for exploring Sydney with Balmain East Ferry port located just a short walk down the road.

Nearby Darling Street has lots of restaurants catering for just about any type of cuisine. There are lots of lovely bakeries nearby if you want fresh pastries and croissants for breakfast!

I cannot rate this property and the owner highly enough. It meant we had a wonderful stay in Australia

Fantastic house and owner

We stayed in Vanessa's house for 5 nights. There was 4 adults and our 2 tall teenagers. The house, its location and all the things it offered were perfect. The house had everything we needed and then some. It's in a great spot and was central to everything we wanted to do. The balcony and BBQ were so handy and if we weren't sitting out there, then we were in the roof top deck. The roof top deck has a fantastic view of the Harbour bridge and on a nice night (Of which we had 5!) it was excellent. Vanessa the owner was so helpful and only a phone call away when the toaster died. ( It was replaced asap by Vanessa ) If we go to Sydney again this place will be on top of our list of accommodation!!

Balmain is an historical area of Sydney, situated on a peninsular with Sydney Harbour on both sides. Fantastic location with convenient transport by either bus or ferry to the city, getting you there in about 15 minutes. Balmain is an extremely safe area with many cafes, pubs or restaurants to choose from. An interesting place to stroll through, its' quaint streets providing cameos of the harbour. It has a community feel and the high street is always abuzz with life. There is also an abundance of harbour side parks and the famous Dawn Fraser harbour swimming pool. Staying in Balmain, particularly at The Pacific will give you a genuine feel for Sydney and you will probably wish to return.
