Location Details

The Comboyne Plateau is a unique location, the only true plateau in Australia, 700metres above sea level and surrounded by nature reserves and national parks, yet only 30km from stunning coast and beaches of the NSW Mid North Coast.

A unique feature of the Comboyne Plateau is the extraordinary bird life you will experience from simply sitting on the deck. The Roundhouse offers all you need for a true escape, whether it is to simply unwind and enjoy the view or embark upon a range of nearby adventures.

The Surrounding Area - Mid North Coast

Located in close proximity to The Roundhouse, discover a range of activities from bush walking, bird watching, fishing or simply lazing on the nearby beaches of the NSW Mid North Coast. Visit for superb local information.

Boorganna Nature Reserve is the second oldest nature reserve in NSW. Boorganna is a 396 hectare reserve, a remnant of the extensive forests that once covered the plateau. There is a delightful picnic area and a 2.7km walking track that takes you through different forest types down into the valley to view the spectacular Rawson Falls. Vegetation ranges from sub-tropical to eucalypt forest, there is a wide range of fauna and abundant birdlife.

Bridal Veil Falls Flora Reserve is located on the corner of Comboyne Road and Stennetts Road on the northern side of the plateau. The views to the NW are sublime as are the views to the NE from the local historic cemetery located nearby. There is a picnic area at 'the Elbow' on the Wauchope Road.

Comboyne Nature Reserve is located adjacent to the village of Comboyne on Mt Bulli. It is a large rocky hill once mainly cleared but now covered in a mosaic of vegetation, including rainforest, eucalypt forest and heath on the shallow soils. There is no access at the moment as it has only recently been gazetted and no tracks have been constructed.

Ellenbourgh Falls with a single drop of 200 metres are a spectacular site and the second largest waterfall in the southern hemisphere. The Falls are found by travelling on Tourist drive eight from Taree, through Wingham and onto Elands. Features include viewing platforms, picnic and barbecue facilities, a food kiosk which operates on weekends, public holidays and school holidays, toilets and a timber stairway to the bottom of the Falls.

A 30 minute drive from The Roundhouse will bring you to Laurieton, once a small fishing village and now home to thriving oyster farms. It is surrounded by lakes that are linked to the ocean and there is good fishing.

Peaceful Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Even though it was cold and raining outside we still very much enjoyed our stay. Lil hideaway from everything. Was perfect. Fireplace and the view were lovely. Definitely going to stay again when we need some “timeout” from our lives :)

Privacy, serenity, relaxation.

  • 4 of 5

This was our second visit to The Roundhouse, 3 years apart. We were charmed by the local area and had great memories of sitting in the hot tub under the stars. Unfortunately this visit was spontaneous and we weren't told that the hut tub needed 2 days to heat up in Winter. I wouldn't have been too disappointed if there was also a bath, but alas, no. However that said, there is still so much to love about this place.

The peacefulness, the birdlife, the woodfire. After the initial mustiness on arrival, the place warms up nicely. The bed was comfy, electric blankets, nice linen, plentiful towels, and wonderful towelling robes. Well equipped kitchen with coffee machine. Communication with owner and staff/help was excellent. I genuinely felt that contacting them about anything would have been perfectly welcome. We will be back, but with more notice next time!

Relaxing weekend

  • 5 of 5

This place truly is perfect for a weekend of luxury and relaxation.

The views are stunning and the fire place and hot tub just add that extra bit for a romance. We read a book by the fire place, had a glass of wine in the hot tub, and played games at night. Also did star gazing in the hot tub at night.

There is a Webber BBQ which made dinner easy. And plenty of pots and pans to cook with.

Many little extras were a treat: a bottle of wine, Easter eggs, coffee beans, Delicious Tea, stocked fridge with butter, milk, sauces, ice, electric blankets etc

Kristine had really thought of everything to make this a relaxing trip. Way above our expectations, wish we stayed longer.

Its a perfect place for couples or a group of friends.

Such a wonderful host! The extra touches of hospitality of the wine and bagels was unexpected and truly appreciated. They were lovely! We had a marvellous time and would recommend to others.

An all round amazing stay, the area is simply beautiful and there is much to see around the region. The coffee machine was also a nice surprise and appreciated. Thank you so much for the perfect getaway :)
