About Fabienne Mc Auliffe
Bonjour! we are a French/American family, My husband Kelly is from Nevada and I am born and raised in Avignon. After living in many places around the world, we came back to Provence in 1997 and decided that it was definitly our favorite life style and place. So it was easy to buy a beautiful 'fixer-upper' villa in the middle of the pine trees, and to start raising our family. We now have Thalia 6 years old, Kassidy 12, and Maeva 13. We take great pride in having a beautiful place for our guest, great decoration, history you can see (the villa is 100 years old)with all the modern facilitys to make the best vacation. If you don't speak french, we are here to help you.We love food and wine, (my husband is a wine specialist and makes memorable wine tour in the Rhône region)and we can help you for that too. Merci et bonne journée!
Fabienne Mc Auliffe purchased this House in 2004
Why Fabienne Mc Auliffe chose Les Angles (Gard)
The villa Bacchus was for sale in 2000 right next to our personal villa. It was old (100 years old)and a very small typical provençal house. The fact that my husband and I studied architecture probably helped us a lot to feel like we could do it again, but this time better than our own house! My husband and I (yes I did all the tiles, and painted) worked on it for 3 years non stop, with very little help, after our part time jobs.
What makes this House unique
After the villa was done, we build a pool in the middle of the land, where the old separation wall use to be. We rent this villa all year around, and when we show it it to our new guest, we can help it to be so proud! It is more beautiful than our own villa, and our kids are asking to swich house all the time! The location is perfect and it is very peaceful. We used all noble material (stone, wood, terra cota)to build the villa and they are only getting better with time...it is truelly a timeless beautiful provencal villa!

Lovely villa, ideally located and great for families
As a family of three in need of some sunshine, access to local amenities and most importantly a pool, this villa was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would recommend it to anyone.
The villa is a 5-10 minute drive from Avignon itself and within a short driving distance from some of Provence's major sights, towns and villages.
Fabienne, Kelly and their family were very welcoming and the villa had everything we needed for our week's stay. The pool was brilliant after a long day in the hot sun!
For families looking to get away from everything but not be too rural the Villa Bacchus is ideal.
A dream Vacation
What a wonderful experience. The owners were charming and responsive. The house was better than expected and the pictures don't do it justice. A very comfortable, clean spacious and well appointed residence. I look forward to another stay with Fabienne and Kelly. By all means book Kelly for a wine tour.
Comfortable and Quiet Stay with Helpful Owner
Very comfortable and quiet villa, with everything needed for a peaceful stay in a leafy, residential hillside area just outside the main town. The owner is charming, and exceptionally helpful (even driving us to and from the rail station, which was very kind - and dropping us off in town one morning when she spotted us toiling up the hill). She also did some shopping for us - again very helpful.
Would give 5 stars except for a couple of issues which others perhaps need to know before booking.
Firstly, the air-con unit is upstairs in the 'open' 3rd bedroom so if you shut the doors of the 2 downstairs bedrooms, you are stiflingly hot during the night if the temperatures are high (our visit unfortunately coincided with a heatwave).
Secondly, there isn't much of a garden, and the (small) pool isn't just shared ... its right in front of the owner's house, so not very private.
Thirdly, if you are without transport, its 10 mins uphill to the bus-stop, or 45 mins walk into town. Do-able, but mostly along very busy main roads, so not particularly pleasant.
Finally, our mistake was to assume we could rely on taxis quite a bit. We couldn't as there simply weren't any! Also we didn't realise the last bus back at night leaves just before 10pm - we missed it - although the walk home certainly helped us to digest our supper.
Villa is also close to Villeneuve les Avignon (we walked there in about 40 mins, although there are also buses) which is really charming and highly recommended with plenty to see and do, restaurants etc.
We stayed in this property for a week with our five children and it was above all our expectations. The house is clean and excellently furnished with hints of provencal living throughout: the small signs on the doors, the well posted herb garden, the linens, furniture, etc. It had all the modern amenities you want but still retained a classical French charm. The yard was perfect size and completely enclosed providing privacy and security for our small children to wander without worry. The beds were comfortable, the living area was perfect for watching films or playing card games and the kitchen was both functional and well stocked with pots and utensils.
During the six days we stayed there we ate outside every day (there was rain a couple of days but this quickly passed) and there is a beautiful table partially covered by some flowering vine that made us feel as if we were in some magical garden.
The 10 minute walk to the bakery was perfect exercise to lessen the guilt of the fresh "pain au chocolat", croissants and baguettes. The local strawberries were in season and sold in a small market next to the bakery completing each incredible morning. We managed to barbecue twice while there with traditional sausage from Toulouse and local poultry.
We like to walk as much as we can and the historical sights of Avignon (Palais des Pâpes) was about 35 minutes (probably faster for those not encouraging 5 year-olds to walk!) and the center of Villeneuve-les-Avignons was also about 30 minutes.
We also ventured out one day to Les Baux de Provence and another day to the Pont de Gard which were about a 30-minute drive. We also went to the coast to the amazing little seaport of Cassis with the crystal-blue waters and fjord-like inlets. This was about 90 minutes away but well worth the visit (my wife says this is one of the favorite days of her life!).
The owners were fantastic to work with and fully respected our privacy but at the same time were always accessible when needed.
Highly recommended for anyone traveling to the region and our favorite spot for our future trips to Provence!
Wonderful Experience - Enchanting Villa
Rarely does your vacation exceed your expectations. This was one of those times. The villa was far more authentic, warm, and inviting than pictures can convey. It was beautifully appointed, well furnished, very comfortable, quite private and very secure. We enjoyed the villa so much, we made it a point to cook more often than expected. The hosts, Fabienne and Kelly, were very helpful, quite hospitable and knowledgeable, though they respected our privacy. A wine tour with Kelly is a must.. It was the best wine tasting experience that we have had the pleasure of enjoying - and wine tasting is always a favorite. Fantastic location with good access to so many fantastic points of interest, though a car is very helpful. We highly recommend staying at the villa.
A Great Place to Relax
What a wonderful place to meet up with some friends and spend a week relaxing and exploring Provence. The quality of the Villa restoration is remarkable. When we arrived we discovered a completely modern home built in a 100 year old building. You can believe the pictures on the internet, the place is really that nice.
We spent a week with friends visiting local markets, preparing meals and drinking wines recommended by Kelly. Kelly also led us on a wine tour where we were taught the proper methods for assessing wines and were shown how the grape is processed from vine to bottle.
Although Villa Baccus is located about 3km from the walls of Avignon it was an easy, about 35 minutes, walk into town. There are local buses that can be used to get back up the hill if you don't feel like walking back to the Villa
If you are looking for a place where you can relax, explore and need a little help with languages or local customs you could not find a better place.
