Casa SuMarco: Sweet 2 BR House with Fantastic View, Cool Breeze

Bedrooms 2
Space 550 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 BRs, 1 bath, sleeps 4, full kitchen, in/outdoor showers, wash machine, carport

Enjoy wide-open water views and sip a cool drink on Casa SuMarco's huge wrap-around deck overlooking one of the most beautiful bays in the entire Caribbean. Only a few hundred feet from the water's edge and cooled by tropical breezes, this comfortable 2-bedroom house sleeps up to 4 people, perfect for a family or couples. The second bedroom has a hideaway bed that pops up into 2 twins. Enjoy the privacy of having your own house and landscaped grounds in a small, safe and friendly neighborhood on the bay.

Both bedrooms are air-conditioned, all other rooms have ceiling fans. Prepare your own meals in the fully-equipped kitchen or sample island cooking at Culebra's unique variety of restaurants. Casa SuMarco has a washing machine, dvd/flat screen tv with a large and varied movie library (no cable or tv reception-- only dvd's), stereo, outdoor table-top gas grill, wifi, indoor & outdoor showers. Your private parking area is right at the front gate in our own outdoor car-port. The spacious grounds have flowering shrubs and palm trees. It's the perfect island getaway.

Culebra is among the 'Best Secret Islands on Earth' (Travel & Leisure), has one of the '6 Caribbean Beaches to See Before You Die' (New York Times), and nearby Flamenco Beach is 'One of the Top 10 in the World' (Travel Channel). Flamenco Beach is just 6 minutes from Casa SuMarco by jeep. Its central location on the island is convenient to all restaurants, shops, town, ferry and airport. A few friendly watering holes in town have live music or karaoke on some nights. Restaurants range from simple island cooking to elegant gourmet dining. Small local markets and unique island gift shops provide for all your needs. A weekly open-air produce market offers a cornucopian array of fresh fruit & vegetables.

Nature is the local attraction on Culebra. Endless white sandy beaches dot the island. Many are within a few minutes' ride from the house. Deserted beaches, beautiful reefs, fabulous snorkeling and diving. No malls, resorts or golf courses. No passport or fancy clothes required. English is spoken everywhere. To get the most from your visit, renting a car will give you the best mobility and opportunity to explore and experience all aspects of the island.

Come for the simplicity and beauty. Enjoy snorkeling the colorful reefs, scuba diving, nature walks, photography, fishing, biking, kayaking, fishing and boating. Hiking, observing hawksbill or leatherback turtles nesting and hatching in spring and birdwatching in the extensive Culebra Wildlife Refuge are favorite activities for nature lovers.

Bring your sunblock, camera, a good book . . . and relax.

About Susan Lusk

My husband and I retired from book publishing in New York, where we still live most of the year. We love the slower pace, simplicity, and natural beauty of Culebra — it's the perfect antidote to city life.

Susan Lusk purchased this house in 2004

Why Susan Lusk chose Culebra

We visited a few different islands in the Caribbean and whenever we asked about Culebra, we got the same answer: 'Oh no, you don't want to go to Culebra — there's nothing there.' That was exactly what we were looking for and it was perfect! Sixteen years later, it still is.

What makes this house unique

Simplicity of lifestyle, genuinely nice people, beautiful surroundings, safe island, delicious tropical weather.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a great stay in your house. The views were beautiful and everything was very comfortable. As a professional in a technical field I cannot but compliment you on how well you have organized the house and labeled everything and seemingly anticipated the guests questions of where stuff is and how it works. We enjoyed a profound sense of relaxation and a refusal to be bothered with anything but the basics of swimming, sunning, eating, snorkeling, body surfing and doing nothing.

If we have friends that want to visit Culebra based on our glowing reviews, we will certainly recommend your place. Thank you again for making our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

It's so good that we came back!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned to Casa SuMarco for the second year, this time for two full weeks. The property is just as advertised. The house has everything you need to be comfortable. But the best part of the house is the deck that wraps around 3 sides of the house. You can have sun or shade, as you wish, and always have a nice view and a wonderful breeze. We love the location, close enough to town for grocery shopping or restaurants, and about halfway between Zoni & Flamenco beaches. D's Garden is right next door, with fresh veggies for sale. The Tiki food truck is just a walk down the hill -- for coffee and a breakfast burrito or grouper fingers or a burger for lunch or dinner. We appreciate having coolers, towels, beach chairs and snorkel gear available. Makes it easy for us to travel with just a carry on!

Beautiful Culebra home!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What a spot... If you're trying to find a place to stay while on the island, look no further. This cozy beach house has incredible ocean views (see porch pictures), a great location and has everything you could need for a trip to Culebra (full kitchen, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, etc). If I ever return to Culebra, I will absolutely stay here again!

Blissful existence

  • 5 of 5

Your house is wonderful, the location, the deck (!), the a/c, the view, the bath towels and beach equipment to use, the paper towels, toilet paper, condiments (those aren’t always included), the deck, water pressure and temperature, the general upkeep, the hammock, did I mention the deck? The instructions and starter package and the communication with you were all excellent. We really enjoyed it.

I could live on that deck.

By the way, I had expected some dog and rooster noise, but there was very little of it. Quieter than I thought and it was Easter week!

Fantastic Experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfectly lovely time on Culebra Jan. 30 to Feb. 5. Casa SuMarco is wonderful. We spent many an early and late hour on the expansive deck watching the bay, stars and the iguana that graced us with its presence. Many more hours were spent on the beautiful beaches: Flamenco, Zoni, Culebrita and Punta Soldado at sunset. All in all, Culebra is a really neat place for vacationers who aren't particularly fond of over-blown and crowded tourist spots.

This was the best family vacation we've ever taken. The owner has done an absolutely brilliant job equipping the home with everything needed for a beach vacation. Thank you for making the beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers and snorkeling equipment available for our use. The hoses around the house and in the carport area made it easy to clean off after a day at the beach. The ceiling fans and AC kept us cool in the evenings. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals. We loved the view and location. Absolutely fantastic!!

We just want to let you know what a wonderful time we had in Culebra, and that Casa Su Marco far exceeded our already high expectations. The house was wonderful, and we miss our hummingbird/iguana visits immensely. My wife is also having serious withdrawals from the “arepas” at the little place near the airport and my daughter keeps talking out about the Panini truck. Turns out we are Zoni/Breva people, not Flamenco people, but that’s one of the great things about the island – there is something for everyone, and we are already looking forward to a return visit.

Casa SuMarco is in a small, friendly and safe neighborhood overlooking Culebra's main bay, Ensenada Honda, considered by many to be the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean. The sunrise-to-sunset panoramic view is breathtaking. We're convenient to all the great beaches, to town, restaurants and shops, markets, the airport and ferry. By jeep it's about 6 minutes to Flamenco Beach, 12 minutes to Zoni Beach, 7 minutes to the center of town and the ferry dock. Golf cart rentals are very popular because they're fun & inexpensive, but a little slower and no air conditioning :)
